I know this is older but it bugged me a little so.. For the Scouts; no reason to be nervous. A scout is a confident person. Unless an adult has dropped the ball somewhere, You've met the Eagle requirements and the EBOR is your time to shine. The EBOR is the easy part. I've been through many EBOR and the best preparation advise I can give is Relax, BE YOURSELF. The adults that are around you, including the review board want you to succeed. Leaders and District Folks; Except for the National Advancement Committee , No one has the authority to add or modify or take away from any requirements. Every unit leader needs to CLEARLY understand the requirements and convey them to the Scout. All actual policies can be found in the Guide to Advancement. Unit Leaders need to understand at what point the scout has met all of the requirements for Eagle Scout. Leaders also need to understand what happens when all requirements are met and what authority District and/or Council have regarding an EBOR. What happens if a scout doesn't wear his MB sash? What happens if the SM can't attend? What happens if a scout doesn't have the official scout pants? What happens if some reference letters aren't returned? What happens if a Scout can't make a round table night? (this is a big no no) The scout's records (MB cards and Scout Handbook with signatures and dates) trump all other records including what Council has on file.
There are 3 tips that I would share with you: 1) Be Prepared....I know its cliché but its true! The day before, make sure you have your sash, paperwork, req. 7 written (life ambitions, etc.) and your project book ready and in order. 2) Present a good image (clean shirt, combed hair, and SMILE! - also be sure that when you make the Scout sign it is a good right angle). 3) Answer all questions in full sentences (Not - yes, nope, or uh huh). Remember you didn't get this far by chance or dumb luck. You got here because you have worked hard and others believe in you! Best Wishes!!
There are a couple of ways you can accomplish what you want. First, contact your local Scout Council office and explain the situation to your District Executive. He / She should be able to work it out for you. Second option is the Lone Scout program, where you can be a Scout without a Troop. To do this call your Scout Council office and explain the situation to the Council Registrar.
Remember answer all questions in full sentences, sit up straight and display a good right angle scout sign if asked to recite the Oath and Law! Good Luck!!
