Terry McFadden here delighted customer of yours for almost 5 years. This video is spot on after 47 years of riding starting with 70’s wax where the membrane was a newspaper to the 80’s with Rukka one piece sweat suits, yes it’s true Technology and development has come along way.. but I’ve learned more from you about Motorcycle clothing in the last five years and in the 42 that went before so thank you Chris.. but what do you mean the world is not flat of course it is 😂
I've found having a packable inexpensive waterproof overjacket really useful for rainy days. If it has a hood make sure to tuck it in or cut it off as at high speed it'll catch the wind.
I've watched everyone of your videos and bought 4 jackets, jeans, boots, and a helmet from you guys and I still could never find these videos boring. Well done
Another great video, both informative and interesting. I've been biking for over 45 years and I'm still learning from these videos. It's very true that we get set in our ways and beliefs about all things biking but then you watch this guys videos and realise there is another or different way of doing things. This guy is obviously knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
I admit I bought my Merlin Gable Jacket in large part due to it being Triple A rated and Leather. It's very comfortable and I don't regret buying it ...BUT... in the 6 months I've been riding I've learned a lot about gear and I might make a different decision today. I don't know, as I type this i think about how much I love my jacket. The looks, the protection...the comfort...I do love it. I have replaced the armor with level 2 SAS-TEC armor that fits better and helps the jacket fit even better. I can't wear it in anything above 65deg without getting warm though. I do have a summer Mesh jacket for hot days and plan to pick up a Rukka at some point. I have learned so much from you at Motolegends and can't thank you enough for your time and knowledge. You HAVE saved me money. My biggest regret is that you are located 'across the pond' and i will never get a chance to visit your store in person.
It’s funny I’ve been riding bikes for about 30 years plus and know about jackets but just like watching your channel and how you put things across well done dude still lots to learn to 😊 👍 hope your having a great 2024.. Pete’s
If anyone had told me when I started riding, just buy normal non waterproof good vented motorcycle jacket with protectors, good under layer like fleece or thin foldable down jacket and just normal windproof and waterproof light jacket that goes over that all. That is all you need. And when you have 3 or 4 layers you can combine it, add or remove layers for all seansons. And also pack it all in a small topcase or sidebag. But if you buy expensive waterproof jacket you will boil in summer and never be warm and dry enough in winter.
@@michaelmorley6522 Why would it be problem, you will buy Motorcycle equipment with protectors and not just normal jacket from Decqthlon ofcourse. I am just saying that it does not need to be expensive waterproof jacket if you have multiple layers. I have never seen someone ride in the rain in goretex without rain suit.
As always Chris your chat doesn’t just entertain it also enlightens. Huge thanks to you and I presume the team behind you. Nothing but love from Scotland.
BOUNCE now there is a great word, I have been really unfortunately that when I have come off I never had a bounce however I do look forward to that occasion - thanks for the forward thinking. Honestly, a great way to describe it - Thanks Chris I loved the video
Hi Chris, great video. I bought a Klim Marrakesh jacket on your recommendation plus I upgraded to the level 2 ghost armor. It's been fantastic for riding this summer here in Australia with temperatures between 30 to 40 deg Celsius and humidity above 70 %. I have an older Rukka jacket and pants made from Gore-Tex Pro with removeable Outlast liner. I only have a T shirt under this in winter and never get cold. Looking forward to more informative videos.
I agree with everything on the video. But... Leather jackets can be quite versitile and well ventilated as well. My personal favorite riding jacket is the Alpinestars GP plus R V3. The stretch material parts make it super comfortable and more breathable and well ventilated without being too cold. Waterproofness is not an issue since the Scott Ergonomic Pro fits under my seat. Add layers for warmth if needed or just use the Scott for that as well. Pretty much all the layering principles you like to use with the Klim Maracesh you can also use with a comfortable well vented modern leather jacket.
Excellent video, clearly and concisely put. I was lucky to have good advice when I chose my jacket but information on the other jacket types is really useful. Ta Baz
I have had my RST pro textile for many years and it's still going strong. I am about to buy a leather Jacket that is supple and wears more like everyday clothing. Just another option for my riding needs.
In recent years hybrid motorcycle jackets (parts of leather and textile sewed together in order to gather the best of both worlds) are becoming more popular. Although I suspect they will never become the "dominant" type of motorcycle jackets I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter of hybrid jackets. Please, make a video covering that subject. Best regards from Brazil. ✌
I do enjoy your 'kit" reviews and always learn something new when I watch them, I have both leather and textile jackets , I love my leather jackets and in most cases they are my default choice when it comes to throwing a leg over my bike however when the weather is either inclement or particularly hot then it's usually the textile jackets are the preferred choice. On something completely different, I'm fascinated to know why your cameraman insists on switching shots from where you go from presenting to me while looking straight at me, to suddenly presenting to me while looking at someone over my left or right shoulder (it's very disconcerting) ?
One-piece leathers on the track, textile jacket and leather pants on the road, oversuit in the rain. My theory is don't wear an outfit that you wouldn't be happy wearing in a prison riot. One observation, a bulky textile jacket with thermal liner makes for a comfortable landing👍
What would be your recommendation for pants that go with the klim marrakesh? Offroad and street use and using enduro boots with big shin protectors so the marrakesh pant disqualifies unfortunately.
i bought a frank thomas goretex 2 piece in 1997, 27 years have passed, anyway, still wear the same suit today, still totally waterproof 😀 last year went to scotland 3 times, rain, rain, some sun, happy 😀on one trip rained all the way up, called in to the wool cafe at jedburgh, biker after biker came in piss wet through n dripping n moaning 😕 anyway, unzipped jacked , totally dry inside, and tucked in to my egg bacon butty n large coffee watching the rain outside. 😃😃😃😃
Really nice jacket primer and relatable for me as I’m currently upgrading my riding gear. On textile abrasion resistance, which material is more effective? Cordura, dyneema, Kevlar, etc.? It’s confusing and I think there are lot of gimmicks with fancy names, but don’t do anything.
How about a laminated wax cotton style jacket with chest vents, leather shoulder and elbow patches for slide protection and a tech inner that includes two poacher pockets so can keep morning paper dry or hide my rabbit
I do like your content but... you should have addressed the color of the jacket. You should have made a segment for higher visibility as it is as important as armor and warmth. I recognized it is not a cool subject and manufactures have chosen not to chase this much. Wearing a black or dark colored jacket does mean you are not going to be seen and when you fall off the bike into the street - you just increased your chance of being run over.
1. so why do you stock leather, 2) why do you advertise leather 3) why do you all go banking on the ratings the leather has? just makes me feel like i wasted money on all my leather jackets. lol
There's a place for leather, especially more than 5 years ago before better materials were available at a reasonable price. It's an easily available material, has very high abrasion resistance, it lasts forever if treated well, it can look good. It's also hot without any ventilation. It also retains moisture. So it's seasonal at best.
I would have thought my review was clear enough on this. Leather is great. I have a leather 2-piece suit; I love it. But what I am trying to get across is that different products, different materials and different constructions all have their place. If you like your leather jacket, that’s great. I’m sure you haven’t wasted your money. But I can’t see that I can do anything but explain the strengths and weaknesses of various products to motorcyclists. CP
There’s never a “boring” video from you Chris, thanks for all you share! 👍👍
I have to say:"You do an excellent job as an educator. I have never heard or seen more lucid explanation in this field."

@@robansI did. Rukka waterproof leather suit. Perfectly dry after hours in pouring rain. But yes, cold in winter and boiling hot in summer 😉

Stronger than the arse of a cow🤣 this is why I’m taking advices from this channel even though I’m younger than your primary riders

Cows ass! Still laughing on that. Thanks for the information.
One point with leather and cold, how come Eskimo's wear seal skin? That's leather. Or the Inuit to be politely correct.
