  • Alki Beach and Golden Gardens will close an hour earlier this summer, according to the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department.
A Memorial Day weekend on Alki Beach is filled with people soaking in the sun.
“I come down often probably once or twice a month and come down for a walk with friends and enjoy the atmosphere,” said Kira Smith. “Every time I come here i have no safety concerns at all. It's just a great day at the beach and just hanging out and vibing."
But everyone’s time on the beach is being cut a bit shorter.
The parks are currently open from 4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. through Sept. 3. The parks will return to their normal closing time of 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 4.

I’d have to do some serious digging into it but I do believe the city boundaries therefore the park boundaries actually end at the high tide mark.

Whatever happened to closing at dusk? Every public park here and especially the water front closes at dusk just north of Seattle. 11 pm I don't care what others think is late.

Shutting down access instead of doing more patrols and actually doing police work… what a joke

Staffing issues, SPD barely has enough officers to do routine patrol. Recruiting has been hard.

@@andre8272 cop budgets have INCREASED across the country . Seattle cops budget increased $20 million, now at $375 million.
Question is, what's that buying you?

Ok I thought the closure would be like around 8:00PM but 10:30PM is reasonable.

We know who owns the "public" parks regardless of the lil dictators trying to restrict peoples riggts. ignore and continue on.

...can't have nice things ? This is how great places to live gradually turn bad. I call it 'hardening of the architecture' and I've been watching this social disease get worse since sixth grade, when my school wrapped the entrances with chain link fence, for safety. Turning a classic building into a shoddy prison. A nice area into a slum. That beach is what makes the area cool. Give that time back, and ask why it ever closes, at all. Why do parks close at night? Is it because someones grandma thought, "Of course" 100 years ago ?

Good reminder to stock up on bullets this weekend (beach shootouts). Some gun stores will be closed in honor of those killed by guns.
