      For me it was because the only thing I knew about her was that she's an actor on a show that was about shallow and self-serving women on numerous levels. They would constantly dump men for the most ridiculous of slights. So...yeah, it shouldn't have affected how I view her but it did for me also at first.

      Jan Čapek You said making laws won’t solve the problem so I gave you an example of another law that doesn’t work but we all agree that killing people should be against the law. There is no false analogy because big money in politics is just as unnecessary as murder. No one need to murder, no needs to buy a politician.

    Hi -
    I don't know where to say this to Ms. Nixon but here -
    I saw Sen. Schumer and Ms. Fields on The View this week, and what I noticed and was fascinated by is their lightness of listening as well as precision of language, each coupled by their clear vision of their values.
    It's clear your victory of gaining such prominence in a primary generated an energy of honest self-awareness - or honesty and self-awareness - in the Democratic Party.

  • @Atlasfilms08
    @Atlasfilms08 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    To be fair, Ayanna Pressley beat an incumbent who was to the left of her on a number of issues. For example she was against medicare-for-all as recently as 2016, where as the incumbent Capuano has been advocating for medicare-for-all for over a decade. He also voted against the war in Iraq and the patriot act. Meanwhile Pressley is unsure whether or not we should leave Libya and Syria. And though Pressley pledged not to take PAC money for this primary she fundraised from corporate, police, and lobbyist-run PACs while a member of the city council before taking the pledge this cycle.
    Records show that the Pressley Committee, the registered entity for Pressley’s municipal campaigns, received donations from several corporate lobbying PACs, including the Nelson Mullins Riley Scarborough and Nixon Peabody. Individuals from the powerful Massachusetts corporate lobbying firm Dewey Square Group have donated 18 times to Pressley’s campaigns.
    Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez she is not. So in the end a progressive with a steadfast record may have been replaced by someone just pretending to be progressive. Only time will tell for sure.

    Although I like her policy ideas, I have to apply a previous principle equally- we should not elect celebrities from TV to executive offices. Just because they are popular, and maybe even say some things that we like, that doesn't mean that they will be effective political leaders. I am not saying that if you are a celebrity from TV that you cannot ever run for executive office, but I don't think jumping to that level makes sense. You should start at the local level, or at least within the legislative branch on the state level, and learn how to be an effective politician first. Even though I like her ideas, without the know-how and ability to compromise or build consensus, none of those policies will be enacted. The same thing that I said about Arnold and Donald applies to Cynthia- get some experience in politics before taking on the executive branch (on either the state or national level). I think those two examples demonstrate that one cannot be an effective leader in the executive, just because one is popular with the TV-watching masses. If she was running for state senator, I would whole-heartedly endorse her; if she then wanted to run for governor, again, I would say that she worked her way up and has proven herself. As it stands, I don't think that TV celebrities can make effective executives, no matter how much I may like her policies. I wish her the best, but I don't think it will work out well. She, and other celebrities like her, should not believe that popularity is all that it takes to be an effective politician, especially in the executive branch.

    The money that goes into politics goes into the media for advertising. When he asked her about how to get the message across about money in politics I wish she would have talked about that.
    The money in politics is also a problem of money in media. The media don't want the golden faucet to stop either so they don't talk about it.

      Travis7060312, that's what I am trying to say. It's a common loophole that all rich people use. You explained the point I was making. She has a right to keep the money she earns. When she proposes free health care on a state basis in a state like New York that may increase the tax burden on already hardworking tax paying people. Just like it did on Vermont. People have the right to keep their hard earned money too. Thats all I'm saying. It's hypocrisy. If health care has to change dramatically, it should be on the federal level.
