I blew out over 1,000 items (de-cluttered) over the last 6 months, I gave them for free to several willing recipients, it was liberating!! Don't wait - clear out your clutter folks! ;-)

Yeah, within the last month, I've taken about 8 bags of clothes books and household items to various charities. I have a bag in the truck ready to go right now!

Packing party + 30-day minimalism game=🤯 As I heard in this video, now doing a packing party for the second time, this time after a week I am not letting go of what is still in the boxes after now more than two weeks, so now it is just clutter with/in boxes/more clutter. I am grateful it is the first day of the shortest month. Thank you.

"Pay attention to your attention." - love it

  • @kolitiokada9825

Yes! "Multi-tasking" is constantly switching gears while maintaining the illusion of being able to keep all of your plates spinning! (yesterday, while taking care of one customer, another customer was not happy that I would not let her jerk my "flashlight" on her - instead, I told her that she would be next, and returned my attention to my first customer) When I "have" to do something that I may not like, I acknowledge myself and say, "I know you feel ______ about this and let's just do it", then I try to get lost in the process and usually love how it flows. I am constantly evolving into who I am and I want my things to reflect & support who/where I am now - sometimes the transition time period is the most difficult - still having the stuff in your home while trying to find the best way to pass it on (give, donate, trash, time who, how, where).

try having a conversation with someone who is texting. I just disengage. But if we don't have each other's attention, why bother?

Eliminating physical clutter is only the beginning. I own 8 T-Shirts, 4 flannel shirts, 2 dress shirts, 3 polo shirts, 5 pants, 4 sweaters, 5 shoes, 2 belts, 2 watches, 2 jackets. It feels like a lot. Once the environment is clear, one can focus on the emotional/mental clutter. The latter is the most difficult.

Some minimalists would contend that one should *start* with the mental clutter! 😄

It would be interesting to discuss how more and more people are coming up with ASD, and their ability to focus and be selective of what they allow in, and is that becoming a benefit to modern life???

emotional attachment or sentimental clinging to things may loosened by asking:
    what is behind that memory?
often there is a deeper answer like I have an desire for having back old feelings or wanting persons back or near that were gone. you may want go back to good feelings of past times. you have to realize that this is not possible - even if you could, you are not the same person anymore, you have moved forward. you cannot replay that past, it's gone.
train your "flashlight" to ask "where are you?" and is it where you want to be?
sometimes I write a note with a thought, question or goal and keep looking at the note from time to time to keep closer to where I want to put my energy to go.

25:10 if we think of our mind 🧠 like a sponge 🧽 our attention span isn’t shrinking, we are being flooded with more “stuff” mentally we are absorbing 🧽 💧 💦 🚿 & need to constantly wring out our minds/sponge & allow it to dry to be more useful… i.e. minimalism (physical, emotional, mental) “😑HM”

I remember hearing a guy who ran fasting clinics say that when people are fasting they should rest a lot and *no television* because it uses too much energy, but audio is fine.
So, it's interesting hearing the same thing here.

Sort of makes sense. Eyes use a lot of oxygen and using oxygen means we are burning glucose. (Plus all the emotional component to watching peoplel/animals/products doing things on TV) It's similar to how our phone's screens use the most of the phone's battery.

Most minimalist often have highly anxiety or even deep trauma. The decluttering helps to give mental clearity, but it can’t replace to work with the trauma with a therapist

Every time I go to a job interview, these days, I hear that buzz word “multitask”. I really feel it’s bad for our brain. I have been so indoctrinated into it, that I find it difficult to do JUST ONE THING. I am trying to now sit and do single tasks. I find reading and writing are the two things that I really have to focus on to achieve something. It’s an exercise that I am working on along with meditation.

I'm wondering how people who see social media and email as the evilest of distractions lived before those came into being. I'm about the same age as Josh and Ryan and I remember that my childhood and teen years were tormented by plain old radio that was on all day long by my father. I was throwing fits because I couldn't do my homework with this thing on, I can neither read nor write (which is my job) to this day if I hear speech or even music. colleagues talking in the same room makes concentration impossible for me. phone notifications, browser tabs are nothing compared to that. they can be more or less distracting depending on whether I'm waiting for something, but I wouldn't demonize that modern invention. plain old human speech is still unequaled as a distraction.

Which is the 🐥 and which is the 🥚#Mental or #Physical [Clutter] Which came first? What% of your life really needs your instantaneous response. I'm sure we usually have time to take ten mindful breaths before acting out our life choices ❗

Anyway, i am a big fan and i love your podcast and the fact that you give all this for free is incredible.
