  • Celtic's eternal pursuit of a new left back begins its latest chapter as Greg Taylor unfortunately struggles against Borussia Dortmund and puts the matter into full focus with his contract expiring at the end of the season. Alex Valle has impressed early in his loan from FC Barcelona but is he the upgrade required? In this video ‪@Quinny3001‬ looks at the left back saga as we find it today

Very interesting topic, EBT used Papac really well in Europe as auxiliary LB/CB.
Lots of clubs move their CDs out wide as they're usually taller and better defensively

i love andy robertson. i watched him when i had a season ticket at united along with GMS and Stu Armstrong. andy has been class but a potential 18 month away transfer to celtic im not up for. the guy will be 32. that would worry me he comes in and cant keep the pace.

Quinny it would be great if Bernabai matured as a person as well as a player and came back but i dont think he likes life over here.

GREAT ANALYSIS. * on a side note. Celtic ruined Iwata by not allowing him to play & continue his development. Birmingham fans are raving about him. Saw a fan Chat where they are saying they can't believe they got him. He was J-League player of the year & A.P. & Rodgers used him mainly as a sub. * Union Berlin (who are not doing well) beat Dortmund 2 - 1 last week. And week before Bochum (bottom of league) went 2-0 up v Dortmund, eventually losing 4-2. a midfield of Hatate McGregor Iwata could have prevented the 7-1. I thought we'd at best get a draw but Rodgers is clueless away in Europe.

Really? I mean, no disrespect to him but he’s performing in League 1. I doubt that transfers well to the CL. I frankly remember a few games last season, particularly Killie away, Iwata started and did not perform well when he was pressured. Gave the ball away, caught in possession, all in our half. I don’t think a midfield of him, CalMac and Hatate would’ve changed the scoreline much in Dortmund. Cal Mac isn’t an 8 anymore, especially in Europe. And if you started him as a double pivot, again it doesn’t change much I don’t think. Iwata wasn’t European quality, and I certainly don’t think he starts over Hatate, Engels or Cal Mac at the moment.

@@aidaaan_5083 1 game? But thats my point, he went from being a mainstay in Japan for Yokohama Marinos. If he's the on bench for months he's going to be less effective than if playing week in week out. Maeda wasnt Player of the Year in Japan, nor Hatate, nor Kyogo. Its League 1 , their fans are saying he's far too good for the league. Japan Player of the Year. then Celtic make him stale on the bench. He'd have been better defensive midfielder over Engels who has played horribly since Dortmund game. You wouldn't even think he was on the pitch. You say starting over Hatate, Hatate didnt start in Germany! I said Hatate, McGregor & Iwata would have added solidity. Engels & Bernardo were horrible in Germany & was basically a midfield of 1 player McGregor.

Iwata had plenty chances at celtic and both Ange and Rodgers decided he wasnt good enough to ever be a starter. Probably the most disapointing of all the asian players as he came with the tag of player of the season in the J league. For me he looked an average steady player but lacked the speed or athleticism to ever make it at celtic. Doing well for birmingham means nothing compared to doing it for celtic where every pass and result is under the micro scope.

@@Hercules_88 That's my point, it wasn't just one game. It was a few games, actually. Killie was the worst one, he was horrid. Again, J-League doesnt exactly transfer over to the CL, so I dont exactly see why thats an important point. If he was so good, he would've been playing. But he didnt. Two top managers didnt see enough in him to start him a lot, so there must've been something.
Engels has'nt been playing as a 6, hes been more an attacking 8/10. Engels was awful in Dortmund - who wasn't? CalMac was arguably the worst player on the field in Germany. And he had a quite game against County. Overreaction much? Guy's only 21, had more good games than bad. Again, I dont think changing the personel for the Dortmund game changes the result, and I dont see how Iwata changes the game or scoreline by much either.

Bernarbei was terrible, couldnt make simple passes and was caught out of position all the time. I would take taylor over him every day. Dont want roberston once he is done, We should be able to find a better option. Trustys lack of speed would worry me at left back.

I like Taylor..but, would you play him before Tierney or Robertson for Scotland? No. There's levels to this game.🍀
