OK... GREAT video. I have the same shifter but 7-speed, probly 1989 or so. It has a few minor differences, like the number of plates inside, but pretty much the same thing. I noticed it was really stiff so I figured a rebuild would loosen it up. Once I opened it a found a mysterious little piece of metal that turned out to be the travel-limiting tab, broken off. (bummer, but I think it would still would work). The biggest challenge was that metal ring that, on yours, wouldn't come loose. It came loose on mine, but the tolerances are so tight I couldn't get it back in! Really had to work at it.
