Good show, never realized how gorgeous Shirley was
Thanks for watching Mary. 👍
Youth is a wonderful thing.
I miss the time when kids rec centers were everywhere, and they were free. I spent so much time in them wherever my family moved to. They hosted dances too. It was awesome!
Thanks for watching B.F.S. 👍
I learned tap dancing, ballet, Bluebirds, how to bake, do ceramics, roller skating, and later I taught baton twirling to young ones.
@@meman6964 Thanks for watching M, M,👍
Why would you miss them when you're probably pushing 60 if not older?
Yeah often times in a school we all hung out there.
Cross between. I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched! However, Love Shirley Jones , Ted Bessel, and others!
lol Thanks for watching Patti. 👍
Good cast bad plot & writing.

@@RobertMarshall755 This idea was tried again when Sally Field was in "The Girl With Something Extra." It did make it on the air, but wasn't successful and didn't deserve to be. Gimmicky shows like this always have shallow, repetitive storytelling.
@@davidlafleche1142 Thanks for the info David. 👍
Shirley Jones was a knockout!!
very much so, Thanks for watching D.W.P. 👍
Always thought she was gorgeous. Saw her in person in Temecula CA fifteen years ago. She was nice and so beautiful.
AMEN !
What a hottie! Jack Cassidy was a lucky dog
Agreed!
Bewitched aired on the ABC network starting in 1964, and I Dream of Jeannie aired on NBC starting in 1965. I wonder if they had the intention of trying to sell this show to CBS based on a woman with magical powers? Shirley Jones was beautiful, as was Barbara Eden and Elizabeth Montgomery.
Thanks for showing this unaired pilot episode.
Your welcome Frank, and that was a good point you made in your comment, 👍
I thought the same thing.
never seen this . Was it magical. Like bewitched ?
@ beverlygannon4141-- This is the pilot for "Dream Wife" that went unsold, and the only episode that was made as far as I know. She had the magical power to hear other people's minds and thoughts.
@@franknew9001 That's why I've never seen it. Til now. Thank you for letting me know 👍 from UK
To think, this was just five years before The Partridge Family.
Thanks for watching Kay. 👍
And one year before That Girl
I like this premise! Wish they had made this show!
Thanks for watching Lynn. 👍
I can see why it didn’t sell. The plot was not good.
It's amazing how much more beautiful Shirley Jones looks with this hair style as opposed to the crappy one in The partridge Family.
Thanks for watching R. T. 👍
Yeah she invented the mullet.
I was 10 when the Partridge Family was on originally and I had a crush on both Lori and Shirley. Shirley Jones was/is/ and always has been quite beautiful regardless of her hair style. Though her hairstyle in Oklahoma took my breath away😁♥️
@@robtay1963 Thanks for watching Rob. 👍
You are sooooooo right! As a kid, I took her beauty for granted because of her hairstyle on the show but seeing her on other movies taught me better. In this pilot, though, she's a bona-fide knockout! Wow!
Ted Bessell hit the jackpot a year later co-starring in That Girl.
Yes, he did Chilo. Thanks for watching. 👍
Wasn't his mom Marlo Thomas mom in That Girl?
@@tugglemiles2991 Marlo was Ted's "That Girl". Mabel Albertson portrayed Ted's Mom, a great character actress who also portrayed Darrin Stevens/Dick York's Mom in Bewitched at the same time.
@@tugglemiles2991 Yes she was T.M.👍
Part of “magical wives” tv, including Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. I noticed the show title font was similar to Jeannie’s, even.
Ta so much for this! I always loved Shirley Jones and Donald May. Donald May was wonderful as Adam Drake in THE EDGE OF NIGHT and THE ROARING '20's. I wish we could some how see all of the R 20's episodes! Cheers!! X

Same here it’s a shame it didn’t feature them in a better light
Gotta love the little kid sitting in the car in what we used to call "the back back." No seatbelts, and facing oncoming cars. Sticking out our tongue and making faces. Good memories
lol Mr. Led, Thanks for watching. 👍
Right and if you cracked the window for fresh air you got a dose of exhaust fumes.
Looks like a great show !!!!!!! Can't believe the networks did not give it a chance. Shirley Jones was just stunning in the 1960's and 1970's !!!!!!!!! Still alive today at 90 years young !!!!!!!!!! Miss Partridge is doing something right !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the comment and watching Nick. 👍
Shirley Jones looks her best here! But you can feel the show just missing the mark somehow.
Thanks for your comment and watching. 👍
The premise of her ability to read the thoughts of others was weak and more emphasis should have been on that to make this pilot work.
Some LA friends of mine knew actor John Abbott - around 1990 we all hung out at his house and he took us for pizza down the street. I started imitating his lines from Star Trek, he smiled and said “that’s very good”.
lol Thanks for watching John.
I think the theme song is what killed it.
I agree, had the show been picked up I’m sure it would’ve been re-worked.
It was terrible, even by 60’s standards.
You ain't kidding. It destroyed this pilot from becoming a t.v. show.

This is the 2nd video I've watched on this channel and I've got to say I really like what you're doing here. I really liked this pilot. Should of been picked up. Shirley Jones was quite the looker!

Amazing, thank you for sharing.
Your welcome Jess. And I thank you for watching it. 👍
Too bad this didn't get picked up. This would have been fun. Thanks for showing. And, in agreement with other comments, Shirley Jones was gorgeous. I especially like her in The Music Man.
Thank you, Lee, for watching. 👍
Thanks for posting this! Just one request: it's a fun, upbeat sitcom, and I enjoyed seeing the names and dates of the actors' lives, please consider leaving out how they died; it's very sad to see their diseases included in the on-screen info between watching the scenes of the show and takes us out of the fun (and If anyone is curious about what someone died of, they can easily look that up in seconds.) Plus, I imagine the actors would like to be enjoyed and remembered for their performances and not for what their diseases were. Anyway, much appreciation again for posting this sweet show.
Will do Avery, thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
Good point.
Just glad Hank Kimball left the city and the parking lot behind for Hooterville.
Thanks for watching Norman. 👍
The plot moved fast and Shirley Jones played it perfectly making this a very good pilot. Why the tv network brain trust did not buy this show is a mystery. It's a fun pilot thanks to Shirley Jones. I think the script writer needed to spell out what Shirley's gift had been by saying in the pilot, "Sometimes I wish I did not have ESP because it gets me in these crazy situations." I also think important characters like the one played by Ted Bessell were undefined. Good guy? Bad guy? Nemesis? This show with minor tweaking could have been a success!
Because they revamped it created Bewitched in its place
You just gave reasons this was not a good plot and so not picked up.
Well, as I recall in the early 1970's there was a show with Sally Field called "THe girl with something extra" which she had ESP.
Yeah - I had no idea of her "gift" until 'til WAY into it ... Shirley was DIVINE!
I had to go to the YT "description" block to find out what her gift was. Also, the bickering between husband & wife is a little too ANGRY, without any humorous banter. ... Too much like my real life parents, not much FUN for a sit-com.
Dream of Jeannie font!

Thanks for posting this. I remember Shirley Jones from The Patridge Family playing Shirley Patridge. Ted Bessell was Frankie Lombardi and Donald in That Girl, Barton MacLaine i remember from The Maltese Falcon and as General Peterson on I Dream of Jeannie.
Thanks for your comment and watching Frank. 👍
I can't believe that they turned down a T.V. pilot with Shirley Jones. She was already a movie star with "Oklahoma" (1955), "Carousel" (1956) and "Music Man" (1960). Why did they want to do a "Bewitched" (1964) knock off with her? She should have had something to do with singing and dancing to showcase her talents.
Also why did they have Donald May who clearly was built to be an action star as her husband? Ted Bessell was the obvious choice as the comic lead co-star as he proved in 1966 as the sweetest boyfriend on "That Girl."
With Rosemary De Camp and Alvy Moore, it should have been a sure-fire hit if they had tweaked the pilot a bit.
The pilot for Gilligan's island was a dud until they reshot it with Dawn Wells, Tina Louise and Russell Johnson.
Thank you, Jay, for your comment and watching. 👍
I would’ve loved this show as a kid too bad it wasn’t aired

Seems that way, Stars even resemble those on Bewtiched.
This looks like it should have been aired. It seems as good as "Bewitched. "
Thanks for watching R.M.P.
So, her character can read others thoughts. It seems that this ability got lost in translation in this pilot and maybe that is why the networks passed on it. Also, if the actor Randy Quaid played a role in this pilot and mentioned that he was a PILOT ( Hence this being the first episode )and could fly, it could have turned this into a comedy for sure, with special guest, the robot from lost in space. But it was nice to see Mr. Kimball from Green Acres.

That was actually Hank Kimball from Green Acres.
Nice pilot but my guess is that because there were so many of those types of shows at that time like I DREAM OF JEANNIE AND BEWITCHED, they probably needed an extra something to give the show even more of a feeling of originality like the PARTRIDGE FAMILY, family of singers with mom added to the mix, thats originality. But it was nice seeing how easy on the eyes Shirley Jones was. I had the privalege of meeting her and taking a photo with her a couple of years back!
Thanks for your comment, and watching Garry. 👍
The networks must have figured it to be a nightmare of a show and did not pick it up.
Seems so Garfield, Thanks for watching. 👍
Shirley had a hit in the Partridge Family not too much later and Ted Bessell in That Girl with Marlo Thomas. This was just after Shirley had done the movie version of The Music Man with Robert Preston.

Great cast and the premise is cute, but the writers needed to write a better script, bc in the middle of the show, you just hear Alvy Moore's voice over. She could have explained in the intro she can read people's thoughts. Thanks for uploading

Yikes! Your amazingly lyrical and quite spontaneous muse has given us the subtext of the original song! If only there was much more PSI mischief in Dream Wife, instead of a borderline psychological disorder, which made her seem like a pest to others who reacted negatively to her unasked-for personal ESP-ing of them, then this Shirley Jones series could have taken third place with Bewitched and Jeannie and run for a few years.
Lordy that was awful! Can see why it didnt get picked up. Still neat to see the fashion & slang of the era though.
Thanks for watching Katie. 👍
Dream Wife had potential but the theme song would make a feminist's head explode and the kind of ESP that Shirley Jones manifests would be irksome, annoying and off-putting to most people she was able to scan. Who wants to be around a person who can discern your thoughts and musings? Neither Samantha nor Jeannie ever intruded, even accidentally, into anyone's mental atmosphere. The lettering of the title is nearly a knock-off of both Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. The cast was mostly made up of veteran talent, but in this pilot everyone was trying too hard to follow the obviously strange directing to be abnormally daffy and cute. The moral of this sit-com is if you have ESP, keep it to yourself!
Thanks so much for this delightful oddity which is probably unknown to most as it is to me and other fans of when television was fun to watch.
