    Duane Eddy and His Twangy Guitar was a big influence on me as kid. I had never really heard anyone play solo guitar before. Later I discovered the great Chet Atkins.

      I liked that it was really easy and even though I was a beginner in the late fifties, I could play a lot of his stuff. He left all the improvising to the sax player.

      Love that sax! That became my instrument in high school on a borrowed sax. Wish my folks had let me buy one. My mother was a singer and they just didn't want one in the family. My brother Ed became a singer/songwriter in New England when he ran away from home. He plays five instruments. I guess it runs in the family - much to my mother's objections.

    Love Duane Eddy and that Gretsch 6120, the only thing I wasn't that keen on was the sax and 'yeehaas' on most of his instrumentals. Maybe one or two but not all the recordings. The Shads, Spotnicks, Ventures didn't need it. Just the electric twang... that's the thang!

      That makes no sense. If he is endorsing Gretsch, he would be required to appear, or be photographed with no other brand of guitar. But my comment refers to back in the 60's and 70's. I would always see him with a Guild.

      @RStep12 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Duane Started out with a Gretsch. Traded a Kay and $75 for it . I think he got the better end of the deal. Still plays the Gretsch as well as the Guild. I think the Guild is a Manhattan X175.

      Certainly the two timbres of the two guitars (GRETSCH and GUILD) are similar, although the GUILD is preferred for live performances. Congratulations and greetings from Italy th-cam.com/video/iIv2fmK0Av4/w-d-xo.html PIPELINE (Gretsch & Guild - Surf Guitars)

    Don't know how that response is connected with my not liking too much of the sax and background yelling on Duane Eddy's hits. Shads, Ventures and Spotnicks all had reasonable hits.
    Maybe the producers on Duane's records decided they might sound better with the additions to just the electric guitar, which is, after all, they main attraction of Duane's recordings.

    • @highpitwilma

      ROCKINGMAN...Shadows...REASONABLE HITS?!...Best-seling Instrumental GROUP..[NOT BAND!!]..in the world!
      I agree with your sentiment about too much Sax,and not enough Axe!
      I still have all my old Duane Eddy records on Shellac [78's],and on vinyl 45's,I love them all,but still think Duane got paid for doing very little!
      Not being derogatory,just painfully admitting to myself the plain truth!
      I learned to play them quick and easy,when I was 15yrs-on as they were being released,with the exception of Shazaam!..that still is a bit of a finger-wrencher for me now,at 75 yrs of age!
      Most tracks are one-liners,with key-changes,and loads of Sax and Orchestra..and very little input from Duane.
      Still love him though..it's that TWANG!...gets to you

    • @ROCKINGMAN
      @ROCKINGMAN 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@highpitwilma I too thought Shazam was a little more complicated than Duane's regular hits, Shads did a good version too. Still, despite uncomplicated guitar parts from Duane's records, he has his own very likable style. Lucky for him, I guess, to get many hits with less of an input than many other twang guitarists.

      You act like those instruments were playing for so long you couldnt deal with it, well it wasnt bad at all they were short solos and this is a good song. Obviously you dont know his music or you wouldnt of clicked on this song, then complained about hearing other instuments in the song. I like his song "freight train" but even that has some sax in it.
