For all wondering what they are doing: They are harvesting the seeds of „Valeriana locusta“, cornsalad or lambs lettuce in english or „Feldsalat“ in german. Its a green salad very popular in central europe especially in Germany and France.

Great video. The seed is shaken for improved seed quality and to catch the loose seed in the windrow. The windrow is combined a few days later to collect the remaining seed.

This seed will be grown, and the leaf will be eaten in salads. I believe it's more popular in Europe

I have never heard of cornsalad before and certainly never seen a machine like that! whats the reason they dont put it through a combine? too hard on the product?

They shake what they can out of it then combine it a few days later.

This machine shakes the mature seed out a couple days before the combine harvests the remaining row. It reduces the seed that falls onto the ground.
