    Knowing Hilton's punching power Benitez handlers should never allowed him to have taken this fight at this stage of his career.

    good fight. Benitez wasn't strong enough so ended up having to trade and that was his downfall. good effort from benitez in the twighlight of his career.

      @@SitesThatSuck .. after sugar ray, he won the super welter title from morice hope, the first fighter to win three titles in three different weight divisions since henry armstrong. but this was the fight that caused the brain damage.. he should never have fought again..

      Wilfred was definitely shot at this point. He was still a young man, but this is like 10 years after he won his first title. I always felt that Benitez reached his PHYSICAL maturity peak at 154 around the time beat Hope and Duran. He looked like an adult at that weight. However, he didn’t seem to be strong enough to fight many of these bigger fighters as he got older. He really took some poundings at 154 and 160. This should have been his swan song, but sadly, we know it wasn’t. But when you don’t know how to do anything else except box, what can you do?

    • @JuanPerez-ek8wd
      @JuanPerez-ek8wd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Odawg96 ... agreed.. but I have to say this.. when all you know to do is box, you box.. but those guys that made those big dollars should have learned to take care of their money.. especially those fighters that live in poor countries.. retire in their early 30's and invest wisely for the rest of their lives.. living like a king.. look at guys like Carlos Palomino, Larry Holmes, Ray Lenard and a few others..

    • @Odawg96
      @Odawg96 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Juan Perez It’s well-documented that Wilfred’s father squandered Wilfred’s money. And on top of that Wilfred never matured MENTALLY past the age of 15 or 16. Like a lot of people who have early success, Wilfred never learned basic life skills. What happened to him financially has happened to many other people who had superstar success at a young age: singers, actors, and even boxers. Only thing is that the singers and actors don’t get their brains beat out...at least not for a living.

      i dont think they showed that fight, because as far as i remember, HBO didnt show an undercard fight on the TYSON vs BIGGS card that night .
      Believe me, i know, because i literally still have the VCR Tape from OCT - 16 - `1987 of the TYSON vs BIGGS fight, and there was no undercard fight aired before that at all

    Welfredo should have stayed in the Walterweight division. He was a great Walterweight but when he moved up, it slowed him down and I don't think he had the power to compete as a Junior Middleweight.
    Grave mistake!

    Benitez is woefully slow here
    Had neurological issues way before this fight
    Wilfred is not at all well nowadays unfortunately
    If you watch the ko. Wilfred twitches his head, just as he did in the 15th round when he got knocked down by Leonard.
    I would hazard a guess he had something going on even before the Leonard fight

    and this is the fight where Wilfredo got the brain damage.. what a sad ending to a great fighter.. he was 16 or 17 when he won his first title, and for it to end like this and to suffer the brain damage he did.. there are some videos of him as a bed ridden shell of what he was once was.. just so sad.. one of my favorite fighters of all time..

      @@mr.t658 .... agreed, but he didn't take much punishment in his career, not till this fight and a few after this.. but this was the fight that did the most damage..
      but you are wrong to some degree, one fight can cause severe brain damage. I think it was a Nigel Ben fight where his opponent was left blind and in a wheelchair.. so brain damage can be cause in one fight, one blow even.. and what about that S.F. giant fan that received brain damage after he was beaten by some dodger fans.. it can happen
