I never realized before just how much Fievel Goes West rinses and repeats the original An American Tail. On the plus side, who wouldn't be taken by Tanya's beautiful singing?
This is my favorite Sequel to a Don Bluth Movie, along with The Land Before Time II. Oh I actually met Fievel’s voice actor Phillip Glasser at a convention 2 years ago.
This in my opinion was a pretty solid sequel, the animation quality is nice, and that ending dialogue from Wylie was actually very touching especially for James Stewart's last film role, yeah the story could've been better but at least it's far better than the later "American Tail" sequels that came afterwards, I also remember having a huge crush on Miss Kitty as a child, so you could tell that the inner Furry in me was still growing strong by this point >w
I actually love this movie! While the first movie by Don Bluth was great, but when it comes to animated sequels in general, this is my second favorite of the bunch (with The Rescuers Down Under being number one). Good review btw, and Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁
While this film may not be as dark or memorable as its previous film......it was fun and the fact Tiger has more to do here, sad the family is lesser here but gave Tanya a bigger role as well, plus gave us her singing which is pretty..... Love Blossom!❤❤ lile always Wylie Burps line at the end with Fiviel was both inspirational, and yet emotional for this was Jimmy Stewarts final film and its something he always wanted to be in......A western film! Cat R Waul played by comedy legend John Cleese was hilarious as camp, oh and Miss Kitty too!
Fun Fact: As everyone dances in celebration after Cat R. Waul and his goons were defeated, Tanya can be seen dancing with a boy mouse. This character is revealed in the comic book adaptation as her crush/love interest named Willie, who worked at a cheese vendor in New York.
If you want a sequel to "An American Tail" that feels far more in line with the original, watch the two direct to VHS sequels, "The Treasure of Manhatten Island" (1998) and "The Mystery of the Night Monster" (1999).
The first movie was about them falling for the false ideal of going somewhere else that would let them live better lives and how that turned out not to be true. For them to fall FOR THE SAME THING in this feels too much like a retread of the first movie. You'd thing of all people they would be more skeptical of the promises of moving out west.
@ I was talking about how surprisingly relevant it was to problems faced today by certain groups. But yeah, the whole concept of a civilization living underground does seem a bit pulpy.
I grew up with this over the original.. so it holds a special place in my heart. Yes its arguably not as good but its a very fun sequel that doesnt ruin the first story
All these years and this never turned into a Fievel Goes West The Show! or Fievel Goes West: Travels across America Show . Right? This was a good set up for something like that that by this point in time would have turned into Fievel Goes Across the World!
I definitely consider this the better of the Don Bluth sequels. Though I haven't seen the entirety of the third one or the fourth one. That TV series was pretty lame.
I recall they had some heart to them, but it's been a bit and they were at least interesting in how they changed the dynamics, making it urban and about seeking employment, plus the seedy underbelly of society
3rd one retcons this one out of existence and there's kind of continuity, from what I'm seeing. Even has relevance to current affairs with unionizing and corrupt businessmen, plus a bit of a mystery subplot
