An amazing TT, which I purchased new. Minor highlights missed is that the motor reached speed within 90 degrees of rotation. The following version (PL-L100A which I also have) raised the bar by shifting to a carbon composite tone arm, which reduced tonearm resonance, and the rails were upgraded from brushed to chrome to reduce rolling resistance even further. I prefer the jog wheel of the 1000, vs the poorly implemented push buttons of the 1000A. In the end, I will eventually cannibalize the 1000A for the arm and rails to enhance the original 1000... My 3rd table is a Yamaha PX-3, also linear, but the PL-L1000 remains my favorite of the 3.
Interesting note - Early PL-L1000s had polished rails and metal wheels on the front rollers, similar to the PL-L1. Thanks for the info, I also prefer the PL-L1000.
Thank you for posting this. It's nice to see you are refurbishing and keeping these alive for future generations. Your trade and skills are becoming a lost art. I own the exact same turntable. The turntable had a low quality cartridge and stylus on it. What would you recommend so this turntable can perform to its utmost performance of what is what designed for? You just got a new sub and I rung the bell. Great job.

I had one, it’s a great tt, it’s very large and heavy.

Hi Emmanuel, Thanks for your comments. One of my favorites on the PL-L1000 is the Denon DL-103r. So incredibly smooth. Let me know what you choose.
Great review!! I have one of these from 1980 that needs work. Can you help me or recommend someone? I'm located in Connecticut
