Truly a thing of beauty. I find the older I get the simple things in life like plowing snow are the most enjoyable. Nuts huh? In regard to your Home Made Tractor your are an artist. I can't wait to show my boy's your vid. I bought a 47 Case VAC for $400, got it running, put a three point hitch blade on the rear. It's only a two point set up. I had to extend the mounts off the axle and use heavy cable hooked up to the hydraulic linkage. Works great. But back to you: Well done. Great vid.
That tractor is bad ass !!!! It looks like u have a little trouble seeing the Plow if u do u can get those Orange antennas for the end of the Plow to give u a 3 foot look to see your angles 👍
With a gear reduction of 2 transes a guy can almost get away with a little datsun 1200cc engine with 80 hp.Haveing a auto trans in front then a 4 speed it mimics what the tractors have these days of a 4 speed with 3 speed power shift. That setup is very easy to operate on a tractor.A friend and I have built a basic tractor but would dearly love to build one that articulates in the middle and has 2 live 2 ton differentials to come up with a 4x4 tractor and utilize 2 transes;an auto and 4 sp.behind
A friend of my Dad's was a welder but by today's standards he'd be classed as a millwright. He used to make all kinds of buggies; Scoots (airboats), 4wds, etc. He even bought a surplus tank in the 50's, removed the turret, and converted it into a buggy that he could drive into the hunting camp. You don't see as many great home made creations anymore, which is a shame.
i just seen this, and yes i think its pretty damn cool :) looks like it steers in the middle, love it ! great vid! great work, im sure a lot of welding..
Very Very Nice Job!!! I also have a home made tractor / truck. We call it BOB.It also articulates in the center.I am putting an 8' fisher plow on it this winter.BOB is geared down 250/1 so I have a toyota 22R with auto tranny. It pushes the 4' tractor tires very nice.
The tractor was built by my father and I during one winter. The initial cost was about $3000.00 but I spent another $500.00 at a later date adding power angling to the blade. As for the experience aspect you learn as you go, I'll built many different things over the years.
Nice job ... however pushing the snow into the middle of the street just makes the issue WORSE ... you need to build a HD snowblower, You obviously have serious talent !!!
@dukesroc01 Building the tractor with articulated steering allowed me to use much stronger, more common and less in demand rear axles. It also allowed the tractor to be narrower, tires this large would need a lot of clearance from the frame to obtain a decent steering radius. The engine is carbureted with electronic ignition.
The transfer case has 2 forward gears and 1 reverse. Forward gear ranges are 5:1 and 20:1, reverse is 5:1. This video shows the tractor using the higher ratio of 5:1, the 20:1 ratio is very slow (stump puller).
Nice Machine ! I saw the video where you added two cylinders to angel the blade, Could you have just used one Cylinder.? I was thinking of a single cylinder and a manual locking pin that I could release with a rod set up I bet you have heat in the cab, if you don't at least you are out of the blasted wind, I use an International 350 utility and It can be quite cold pushing snow. Thanks for the post,
I know I am 11 years late in seeing this and may not get an answer, but do you know what your maximum vertical articulation angle is, front axle to back axle? If it as high as I think is, I am sure it handles extra rough terrain well. This is a well thought out design, and build, and very impressive. The 3/4 ton, or so, axles and low gearing are tough, I am sure. Love the sound of the V8 engine. Thanks for the great post.
@tedwpx123 I'm an automotive technician with some aptitude for fabricating. The tires did cost close to $1000.00 but the rims a just old 16X6 truck rims that I modified by widening to 14 inches. The blade is homemade using mostly used metal from the scrap yard. The hydraulic pump and lift cylinder were good used pieces.
One of my other videos shows some more detail. th-cam.com/video/Kec3s8Q7Hio/w-d-xo.html Your axle choice will partly depend on tire size and tractor size and weight. I used Dana 60 axles because they a 3/4 ton full floating axles, my tires are 41 inches tall. There are heavier axles available but probably at a higher price.
@maddog5483 The articulated steering wasn't that difficult to build. One of my other videos shows some more detail. I also have some pictures posted on photobucket, just search homemade tractor and you should find them.
@benjaminwayneb Yes you probably never have a pwr shortage.A friend and i built one from a 2 ton truck and used a 455 olds with auto trans then the 2 ton 4 speed behind that auto and we had move power than we would ever need.Probably 10 times that with the gear reduct it had with the 2 trans,s coupled like they were.We mounted a hydrolic pump on the engine wich powered a blade as yours has. Also a 20,000lb. winch powered off the 4 spds side mounted PTO.Most 2 ton 4 sps have a pto on the side
I used 2 pumps, an old Ford Thompson power steering pump for steering and a 10 GPM hydraulic pump for the blade. Both pumps are V belt driven off the engine crankshaft.
The choice of engine came about because I was given a donor car. I used the engine and trans., rad, brake booster and master cylinder, steering column, and a lot of the electrics.
@EarlRausch The cylinders used for angling the blade are snow plow cylinders, they are only single acting so I needed 2. The control valve prevents the cylinders from moving, no locking pin is needed.
Villeri why did you drive down the driveway first and then backed up the driveway and then plow it why don't you make a separate Scoop for the front page cage something on the right and left side of the plow put an angle piece of Steel going up and forward so any deep snow won't fall backwards over the face of the flower make it so you can lift the plow up with it and it says it out both sides of the plow
@dvknutson The snow is not on the street, it's beyond the curb on the far side or the road. My neighbour doesn't mind and I won't plow onto his yard if the road has been salted or sanded. Our street doesn't have sidewalks.
@Camo00505 The blade initially had manual angling. Check out my other videos, I have one showing the installation of a new hydraulic control valve and cylinders for power angling.

That is not what I expected when I searched for homemade tractors! That thing is effing sweet!

Great build and video! Thanks a lot for sharing this video!
Very good. I'd love to see the plans for this. This is a project I've been wanting to build for quite a while.
I have only one thing to say about that tractor ... WOW!!! .. That is so kewl ... good job sir .... lol ...
wow, nice piece of machinary. looks very well built
Nice work
That's awesome. Great home made rig.
Stephen Watts Thanks for the comment!

Great job on tractor/ truck
Not bad. ! I like the dual exhaust
thats some john deer quality in a tug of war that thing looks like it would win against a 3500hd
Wow, such dedicated work! nicely done and unique :))
Nice machine.

Very nice machine, and interesting choice of motors.
I hope you post more videos soon.

like to see the setup for the power blade , fun with strength and angles.
Cold starts haven't been a problem so far, a good 880 CCA battery helps.
this is a work of art build plans would be nice
sound great nice job
Nice job ... however pushing the snow into the middle of the street just makes the issue WORSE ... you need to build a HD snowblower, You obviously have serious talent !!!
wow that is so cool! I LOVE IT!!!
The cab has an automotive heater core and a 3 speed blower motor.
Very very cool.
Holy shit! That thing is B-E-Autiful!
I swear man, that thing is awesome. i want one
you need to bring it to daves farm and do sky hill,
THIS IS GREAT !
Great video, have you got any pictures/video of how the steering works. I would love to make one for myself
Paul
Really cool machine
real nice!
i hope you get some more plowing videos this year!!!
Yes sir you have a well thought out ideal here my only question would be is can you get those cold-blooded Mopars to start on real cold days ?
The engine is an older carbureted 2 barrel 318. It only has 150 HP. but with the extra gear reduction there is no shortage of power.
This is incredible!! Where is it today?
@dukesroc01 Building the tractor with articulated steering allowed me to use much stronger, more common and less in demand rear axles. It also allowed the tractor to be narrower, tires this large would need a lot of clearance from the frame to obtain a decent steering radius. The engine is carbureted with electronic ignition.
Should have a snowblower. You've got MORE than enough power for one.
The transfer case has 2 forward gears and 1 reverse. Forward gear ranges are 5:1 and 20:1, reverse is 5:1. This video shows the tractor using the higher ratio of 5:1, the 20:1 ratio is very slow (stump puller).
thats bad ass!
The frame is homemade using 4 x 6 x 1/2 inch angle iron. When did you last see a truck that steered by articulating in the centre of the frame.
Nice Machine !

Thanks for the post,
should add a 3 point hitch and a 540 pto so you could use regular tractor attachments
thats an ausome tractor what is it and what engine r you using i love it articulating to lol thats great
Thanks for the comments, the engine is a Chrysler 318.
thats awsome maby u can have and angle on it so you can turn the blade side ways

Wonderful job! I am wondering what is your profession by trade?
@tedwpx123 I'm an automotive technician with some aptitude for fabricating. The tires did cost close to $1000.00 but the rims a just old 16X6 truck rims that I modified by widening to 14 inches. Did you put a gear reduction on that or is it just in 4 low?
a box blad would help move the snow better
You got plans for this monster
No I don't.
Does it have have a heater? hope it does.
I'm trying to build one of these but I'm confused about how to make it articulate and the axles to use any advice?
One of my other videos shows some more detail.
th-cam.com/video/Kec3s8Q7Hio/w-d-xo.html

What hydraulic pump did you use and how did you hook it up?
I used 2 pumps, an old Ford Thompson power steering pump for steering and a 10 GPM hydraulic pump for the blade. Both pumps are V belt driven off the engine crankshaft.
u need to take that thing over to davea farm
best machine for that
The choice of engine came about because I was given a donor car. I used the engine and trans., rad, brake booster and master cylinder, steering column, and a lot of the electrics.
Yes it has a heater.
@EarlRausch The cylinders used for angling the blade are snow plow cylinders, they are only single acting so I needed 2. The control valve prevents the cylinders from moving, no locking pin is needed.
Agreed but I don't see very many fields. Just suburbia.
Nice tractor! What size tires?
Villeri The tires size is 16.5L-16.1, they are Firestone Power Implement tires and are about 42 inches tall.
Villeri why did you drive down the driveway first and then backed up the driveway and then plow it why don't you make a separate Scoop for the front page cage something on the right and left side of the plow put an angle piece of Steel going up and forward so any deep snow won't fall backwards over the face of the flower make it so you can lift the plow up with it and it says it out both sides of the plow
plow
can you angle the blade??
Oh fuck!
Another one pencil sharpener with the V8 !
But the sound is absolutely awesome !
@dvknutson The snow is not on the street, it's beyond the curb on the far side or the road. My neighbour doesn't mind and I won't plow onto his yard if the road has been salted or sanded. Our street doesn't have sidewalks.
Is it hydraulic drive?
Chrysler 904 Automatic transmission and a 2 speed transfer case.
I have added power angling, one of my other videos shows some of the steps.
@Camo00505 The blade initially had manual angling. Check out my other videos, I have one showing the installation of a new hydraulic control valve and cylinders for power angling.
@benjaminwayneb $3000 canadian? Isn't that like $2.5 million USD?
@hunterspapa10 Chrysler 318 cid.
you still using it
Yes still using it, only once so far this season.
the weight of your tires packed the snow down so now you have white snow wear your tires ran it over
@toad5678perry I think I spent about $3000.00 start to finish.
So basically you articulated a pick up truck ? Not really a tractor...
PhatboyHD88 So you haven't seen 4 wheel drive tractors?
