Thanks for sharing. My late grandfather talked about a Model T tractor they made and used on their farm before WW2. No pictures of it survived, so it lives only in our memories. Your tractor is a great treasure of a time gone by.
Hi David. That's too bad that you have no pictures of your grandfather's model T tractor. I'm extremely lucky. Not only did someone have a great camera in my hometown over 100 years ago, but people actually saved the pictures and the tractor. Add to that I got to grow up on land with over a century of family history right next door to my grandparents. Like you, I heard so many great stories of a time gone by.
Second time watching this, I love that the old photographs are still around. It's great that all three tractors are still in the family, enjoying retirement together. Awesome video!
I’m digging that thang! Also the back story and pics are just as good as the actual Relic! Loved it all, watched it twice, the whole family including yourself are very talented.
Thankyou, John. When this thing started again for the first time when it was revived, all the oldtimers in our town recognized the sound immediately. Occasionally my dad gets offers to sell it, but it's not going anywhere! It's worth more than its weight in gold to us.
Absolutely wonderful!! Your grandfather was so talented. I am glad he passed those awesome genes on to you. Thank you for sharing these with us!! That thing sounds wonderful. They do not make things they way they used to.
@@jessealt5415 Do you still have his machine shop? I am trying to start an old Time Machine shop that runs own steam and has a central belt system. I am still looking for old machinery with stories behind them. I want to start living history museum that works on old obsolete tractors and machines.
Wow! Awesome project idea! No. He didn't have his own shop. He had a friend with a shop that let him work there. He was also a master of getting the job done with what was at hand. You know, typical farmer mechanic, but a cut above.
My dad's first tractor was powered by a 2-1/2 hp Briggs engine. It wasn't fast, but it got the job done. I don't remember much about it as I was 9 at the time. The other tractor he built that he's given to me is powder by a Toyota 1200 engine with a VW beetle carburetor. He had a disc harrow for this, and a plow. He ran a chain reduction from the driveshaft to the Datsun car rear, and he fixed it to keep the chain from jumping in gear. One reason I've not started welding my tractor yet is I'm waiting on the machine shop to finish some critical parts for it. I'm trying to negotiate another building where my shop is to do welding in as it's a concrete block building with a concrete roof. This was the diesel engine shed for the generator/hydraulic power on the Amish farm. I plan to build/ retrofit an old wood stove for burning waste oil. This way I can somewhat adjust the temperature, or shut it off to do painting.
As far as I know, a snow plow was the only thing that mounted on the relic. The implements used with this tractor were horse drawn equipment so they didn't mount on the tractor but were just pulled behind. The things that were still around by the time I was born were a drag harrow, a dump rake and a potato digger, but I never saw them used by the relic myself. It was also used for things like skidding logs and pulling carts.
The Relic is one of a kind.
Thanks to people that great mechanical minds, is how we have it so much easier these days.
Very true! Thanks!

If you start putting up video please include any pics you have of your dad's tractors. I love the nostalgia as much as the tractors themselves.
It sound very,very good !!?
Thanks! We used to run it open manifold and beautiful and deafening.
Geuss he essentially made a homemade doodle bug
Yeah, I think a lot of people would call it a doodle bug.
Super. 🙂🙂
Thanks!
What was this tractor used for? Can it mount a disc harrow or plough?
