I wish Haydn had broken with the 4-movement format more often. I find myself listening to only the 1st and 2nd movements repeatedly; the other two feel like they were written only because the audience would expect them.

The sound volume level (dynamics level) is too wide, so it's very hard to listen in even volume level😒
Especially 1st movement.

@@petterw5318 Maybe, but if the historic records say Haydn still conducted his late symphonies behind the pianoforte... would this not have insinuated he used the instrument infront of him to conduct and guide the orchestra through the use of thorough bass continuo, as JS Bach did?

@@clavichord The Farewell symphony shows us the pianoforte was not mandatory.

@@petterw5318 Correct. I have seen the score of Haydn's 6th symphony "Le Matin" and it stated that harpsichord was ad libitum, which I understand as you could use a harpsichord for continuo if you wish.
