I listened to Air America when it began and those like Al Franken were just preaching to the choir. Ed Schultz, Mike Mallow, Randy Rhodes and Marc Maron were good as well since GW Bush was a walking parody, but it was not competing nationwide with Clear Channel’s coast to coast control. This hasn’t changed, while Sam Seder, TYT and online progressives don’t see this monolith of Biden hatred that wants to wash us away like a French/Russian Revolution destroyed the previous order

Agreed, the GOP has so effectively ruined the idea of well educated, thoughtful, philosophical, & intelligent debate, that the centrist left just seems to highbrow by so many Americans. In fact, I'm almost 50 & am largely self educated, but was raised by a man who taught me to do that, & most of my life, if I try to suggest new ideas to people, they often get upset, "well I'm not as smart as you!" But its less that I'm intelligent, & more that I'm curious.

Kind of related (mostly this is something I want to get off my chest).
Recently, I wished my dad (a regular FOX viewer who never goes online) a belated happy Military Appreciation Month (which is May, btw). He rather bitterly said, "thanks. It's the first I'm hearing about it."
And afterwards, I kept thinking about that. WHY is it the first he's hearing about it? And more importantly, how does he think that's anybody's fault other than FOX's?
Think about it. FOX is a conservative news channel. Presumably, they appreciate the military. More than perhaps anybody else, it's the JOB of right-wing news outlets to highlight something like Military Appreciation Month. It's not hard to find out about; I googled "special months observed in the US" and got a list. I also asked Alexa, "Does the military get a month," and she told me about Military Appreciation Month. It's not hard to find out about it. So I can only assume FOX _knew_ about the entire month that's supposed to be dedicated to appreciating the military.
They _could_ have spent the entire month airing ads encouraging their viewers to hold their own parades, having special guests on to talk about their experiences in wars, reminding their viewers to be sure to thank any soldier they see for their service. But they chose not to do that. Instead, they chose to pretend that Military Appreciation Month doesn't even exist. Presumably so they could whine and gripe about Pride Month.
And I think I know why. Because what's actually important to them isn't the military at all - they're just excuses to play the victim when it comes to Pride Month. If they actually celebrated Military Appreciation Month the way it was meant to be celebrated (by actually making it about appreciating the military, and not about airing gripes about Pride Month) in large numbers, then corporations would take notice of the potential market, just like they eventually did with Pride Month. And then FOX and other right-wing news outlets wouldn't be able to pretend that corporations having Pride collections is some Woke Conspiracy. :/

Liberals speak to impress their fellows (mostly) rather than speak to the masses. Every concept can be distilled down to a meanigful, short phrase. Try these for example: taxation is how every civilization was built (true); wake up and stay woke (it makes the definition of woke apparent to all); acces to abortion is about personal responsibility and personal accountability.
Secondly, we have to understand that brands and social perspectives do not happen overnight. We have to give the message time to percolate into the minds and thoughs ot people so that they start to work it into their daily conversations. One or two election cycles is not enough.

You need to create a dilemma in how conservatives try to frame a left message not a problem. A problem has a solution a dilemma has no good alternatives. You create a message that is hard to reubutt.
Here is one message idea that appeals to a more rural less sophisticated voter that is environmental in nature:
"I like to hunt and eat what i kill it much more fair to the animal but i like to know when i bring that the deer home i and my family are not eating an animal full of toxins that harm my health and most importantly my family that why i support clean water and air that why i am not voting for the Republican incumbent representive X in this election he does not care he is big business unlike me who owns a small repair shop."
Ok to a voter who may not be environmentally minded you are reminding him that a conservative is preventing him from enjoying his past time so it gives a personal feel. By using a hunter in the ad its hard to say this is a hippy bi-costal liberal message because the guy is rural and enjoys a past time most people in rural areas enjoy. It is very hard to rubutt from a conservative stand point because it is not nuanced and is straight to the point.
Attacking the ad makes it look like they don't care about people which an attack will reneforce and ignoring it means you have no message or worse no alternative message. The Campaign manager is then forced to figure out if this a battle worth pursing if he does not engage he has a hole in the campaign strategy and if he does he risk more of the same ad with a diffrent point of attack like a fisherman or a farmer.

Selfishness and suspicion is always easier to pander to than intellect, especially when people are as badly educated as Americans are. "Cut taxes!" "Deport illegal immigrants!" "Minorities are getting something you aren't!" Fortunately, most of these people don't vote. Can progressive messaging reach these people? Maybe Bernie Sanders promising Medicare for All, free college, and higher minimum wage is such an effort. But it smacks of buying votes.

The problem with Left messaging is that Democratic candidates tend to offer complex positions, rather than slogans which average people can relate to. I think that direct, simple appeals to everyday problems of working and middle class voters work best. I think Representative Katie Porter hits the nail on the head by talking about the needs of average voters (e.g. student loan forgiveness, minimum wage increases), and pointing out that the Republicans won't even give crumbs to the working and middle class. I think this is really George Lakoff's point. Most former Trump voters are working and middle class voters who would be receptive to such appeals on economic issues. 👍

Capitalism doesn't *recognize* fascism until it's too late to stop it. That was what the 1920s - 30s in Europe showed. We need people outside big corporations to warn us and organize people in the opposite direction.

It does seem to be that those leaning right tend to prefer things simple. That's not to say they are 'dumb' but that there are issues people leaning left see as complex and in need of exploration which those to the right, just don't see the need to question.
There is also a feeling of intellectual insecurity from the right. Very often when they say We have the science, they've stopped at a level of information and understanding they received as teenagers, nodded, and decided was the settled truth. Nobody is immune to the uncomfortable feeling of having their understanding challenged but right wing media is adept at giving their audience a kind if 'out' by appealing to simplicity, loudly and proudly and mocking the idea of nuance.
It's easier to disseminate, easier to remember, easier to repeat and easier to be confident in. I certainly see the appeal 🤷‍♂️
