My best friend overdosed this Monday. She's on life support until her family decides to take her off next week. She's not coming back. She introduced me to radiohead. Ten years ago. Ten years ago we were 18 years old driving around with the windows down listening to radiohead. I feel her still when I listen to this song. Like she's speaking to me through this song. I feel her again and I feel the same way I did when I first heard this song with her ten years ago. I will miss you forever my friend. This is one for the good days ❤

I'm pretty sure that he did it on purpose because if you listen, the moving of his foot is in a different time signature, so it creates a syncopated rhythm.

It is syncopated. His foot is keeping quarter notes. The piano chords are felt on the "ands". you can also hear him accidentally play one note on the "1" by mistake just after 2 minutes. so cool.

Thom Yorke plays every note and sings every note exactly as it should be...not precise, not perfect...but just like Van Gogh, every brush Stoke is human. Loaded with feeling, emotion and connection. 2:07 is such an incredible sight. Whoever placed the "No Smoking" sign here in the studio had absolutely no idea of the beauty that would take place in this space. . It's just a reminder of the real outside world; barely breaking the illusion of this insane atmosphere Thom creates with a piano. Incredible.
I noticed this too and was hoping someone else caught it. The parallel you speak of is one I wish appeared more often. That in between feeling like two realities are merging. It's hauntingly beautiful. Depending on how much you appreciate the world we live in, it can be deeply saddening or melancholic. I find it's most apparent when you exit a movie theater, or finish binge-watching a series. As long as you're fixated enough to forget your body, departing can be jarring.

The way Thom plays the piano here reminds me a lot of John Cale, who had such an influence on other musicians, but still is massively underrated.

I first listened to this song when I was on a car ride with my mom when we were in Florida at Mayo Clinic for my fibromyalgia. She broke her ankle that night and for the next week I was taking care of my mom while I was in extreme pain and stress from doing so many tests. I felt horrible because I wanted to take care of my mom but all I could do was try my best to not break down and cry from the stress and my depression wasn’t helping. 5 years later I’m still listening to this song and I still remember that week. I love Radiohead I love thom Yorke and I love In Rainbows...

I've been searching for this version for a while. I heard this version before I heard the album one and this one has a special place for me. Just something about the intimacy of it, the tempo, the way he sings and the slightly different lyrics makes it more emotional for me. The "after it's too late" line really kills me and it makes me sad that they took it out and shortened that whole section.

It’s hard for sure. Notice even Thom couldn’t fully do it (his first piano hit is on beat 1 and then the syncopation starts) With a little bit of practice you begin to feel it though. The vocal rhythm sounds more regular (I find this version to be one of the easiest to lock into though.
