Nice, had always wondered exactly how Klein managed this photo.

I've often wondered about this photo and how it all ended (in the photo). Now, I know. Yay!

AI will never become the norm.
The mechanism doesn’t have a soul. We all recognise this no matter how sophisticated it becomes.

Some modern reproductions of the image are of high enough resolution that you can trace the seam where the image parts are joined. That the image can't stand up to close scrutiny does not matter when the original presentation of it was a "newspaper" where a coarse linescreen is going to obscure the any sign of this handiwork. Plenty of modern reproductions lack the necessary detail and still obscure hide the join - I had a modern postcard of this that I kept on display in my room when I was in college and the image had authority and betrayed no obvious signs of fakery. Thank you, Yves!

If you want to find the join, the image at the link below shows the start of the image combo in the sky underneath him, where a patdch of pure white cuts into a darker sky. Follow that curve down the the left and that is where the join starts in the tree.

This crop clearly shows the curvy snake of a join, carefully retouched by brush, roughly parallel to his leg, a ways underneath.

Following it to the left, it curves somewhat upward. The exit point - as well as the whole join - can be seen on this one:

Never seen this photo before, even less heard about it. And I am an art nerd. I made an image googling on "Yves Klein," and the photo turns up far, far down among the results. It is not an "iconic" photo.

Yet another AI voice over. Ironic given the subject.
