My friends who come from Taiwan also do that. They claimed it's not superstition but religious habits. I feel amazing as well when I knew that initially.

So lucky ~ I’ve been back almost two weeks. I had friends in Penghu when everything started happening and the fireworks then were cancelled.
I'm so inlove to Penghu. The ambiance, good food, beautiful places, good people. My heart beats so fast everytime I watch videos about that land. I'll make sure to come back there soon. ❤️

Another stellar video. The 'sandal gate' incident was funny - albeit frustrating. Thank you also for the conversion table. In australian dollars it is very reasonably priced.
I just laughed it off and was happy I had another black pair to wear home 🤣 although I will admit they were my favourite sandals from Korea.

I loved the info on the superstitions! I’m going to start knocking on doors when I stay at a hotel. Such a fun vlog, thanks for sharing.
I always say I’m going to do it too but then forget. Watching Ruth do it reminded me of it. I don’t even know if she does the knocks bc of that reason or just cause 🤣
After your knocking, the hotel staff will kindly remind you that this hotel uses keycard to enter...
I mean, we had a key card to enter and my friend still knocked. Seems like many others knock in the comment section. Interesting to hear you don’t knock. Have you ever heard of it before??
I’ve heard of some superstitions in Canada but I don’t follow them.
@@LayersOfJenn This is the first time I have heard. I've been on trip with various Taiwanese from different religious background and I've never encountered people doing that. So it's quite interesting knowing this superstition through your vid.

I'm Taiwanese but grew up in Australia. Even I do the door knocking thing every hotel I visit. My mum would be proud haha!
Hahaha I feel like it almost gets passed down from grandparents to parents to kids!
I didn’t realize you were a paddler! My daughter paddled too, started at Senobe where for a few summers we packed up food and gear for the whole day and just had so much fun. Then after they won gold in War canoe at their level and the one above it she started paddling at MicMac and still paddled on a senior team up till a couple of summers ago when she tore the hell out of her rotator cup digging out an old established garden bed of shrubs.....by hand, what was she 🤔 thinking. That ended her paddling 😢 Anyway, must have been fun being back in a canoe 👍🏻. Beautiful spot and so reasonable too, good you had a nice trip away before the lockdown. Yesterday was the first day in a month that new cases were in double digits instead of triple so that’s a good thing, more and more are vaccinated everyday and that will help curb it. Aside from the fact the stupid Real estate and tourism advertised all across Canada that if people could work online they should come to beautiful NS and live.....so that has caused a huge real estate war, people buying anything sight unseen , paying way more than asked and bringing all four variants with them. We had done soooo well up till then. So some people are not being welcomed with that good old maritime cheer. They will be in time, at least we can’t hold a grudge for too long. I’ve been hearing about the real estate war 🥲 and wow senobe & Micmac lol.. memories ✨ my father paddled at both of those clubs. I paddled at a small club in lake echo called Orenda ☺️
@@LayersOfJenn I know Orenda well, when the crew was training for the Nationals they won, their coach was from Lake Echo and got them to go there to train so other teams couldn’t spy🤣😂🤣. We lived in Chezzetcook for about 8 years so know the area. We’ve never really had a real estate war here but because of all the advertising to come live here people , mostly from Ontario, sold their homes and proceeded to buy whatever they could find , sight unseen, and started bidding higher than asking, others would outbid them and so on. It was sure a sellers market, great chance for people to put their homes up for sale and upgrade their own houses.....unless they got caught up in a bidding spat.😂🤣😂 All this has helped raise the prices of homes rather quickly but it’s not good for the market in general because it will stop eventually and prices will go back to normal, leaving some people losing money when they go to sell. This stuff happens in big cities but not here in the boonies of Canada usually. 🤣😂🤣

I absolutely love learning about superstitions here and I love hotels, so it’s my loves combined! Also this will be helpful because I like to book stays at hotels that are rumored to be haunted! I love a spooky stay. Maybe I’ll knock next time!

Delicious food like sea food, ice cream, fried vegetable, pancakes are always high in protein, sugar, calories, etc. However, they are the best companions while on the road, and treasures to be remembered many years later.

I believe the famous Peng Hu ice is made of the prickly pears from the cactus plants. The pears have a dark fuchsia color.

@@LayersOfJenn yes, sadly. They try to increase but there's not enough vaccines available. My parents, both almost 70 had their first vaccine on Saturday... with my father being a high risk patient with a lung disease 😑 I'm 32, and I don't think I will be getting any vaccine soon.

Me neither! Growing up in Taipei, Penghu always seemed like an exotic destination. And then my family immigrated to Canada after I graduated from elementary school. I’m so looking forward to the end of this pandemic, my family is supposed to go back to Taiwan next year for vacation, but now it looks like we need to postpone 😢 soooo sad 😔

Years ago I remember there was a plane crash from Taiwan to Penghu, 2 French exchange students died on that plane crash. I always wonder if it is safe to fly on small Taiwanese plane.
Oh wow really!? Scary! The airplane I took has 3 seats on both side and was big. I usually take small propeller planes from Vancouver to Kamloops in Canada when I visit my mom. Now those are tiny 🥲
