    As an Indigenous person myself, this really makes me happy that you are learning about local Indigenous cultures in your new home of Taiwan! Its incredibly important to learn about the land and I encourage everyone to learn about Indigenous cultures locally and also globally when you travel to a new place. Nya:weh (thank you in Cayuga)

    The mountain chicken has a better flavor because they are free to do exercise everyday, they are not restricted in the feeding room growing together. You can tell from its yellow skin color and more fat than regular chicken.

    There are 16 indigenous tribes that have been recognized by the government of Taiwan to this moment but they have more than 1,000 settlements or villages around the island. Their cultures and languages are various and sundry but there all belong to Austranesian people who spread the Pacific from Taiwan to Maori in New Zealand.
    According to the recent researches, Taiwan was the original place of Austranesian people because almost all the tribes in the Pacific can find their language elements in Taiwan and not only the number of 1 to 10 sounds similar but also the organs or features in the face like eyes are pronounced similar too.

    • @LayersOfJenn
      @LayersOfJenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Someone else mentioned that 1 - 10 sounds similar to the Maori language. So organs also can sound similar for some of the languages!?

    • @Lili-fq9ry
      @Lili-fq9ry 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@LayersOfJenn I once attended their yearly festival called illisin (豐年祭). Some of their elders had been to southeast Asia before and they told me out of 10 organs on the body, at least 5 organs sound exactly the same way or similar among their languages.

      Taiwan finally learned that the aboriginal culture is part of its soul and also embraces them now. We can be so happy that Taiwan is a democracy now. But of course there is still space to improve. Especially the protection of the nature is important and also in the area of the tribes.

      Many Taiwanese people have more or less aboriginal blood without knowing, so many of them are categorized as Han Chinese(around 95%). For example, Taiwanese president Tsai is categorized as Hakka Chinese, but Tsai actually is 3/4 Hakka and 1/4 Paiwan aboriginal(from her grandmother)...

You looked so lovely wearing their cultural outfits! Other tribes have varying prints and styles for their wardrobe so maybe you could do a little visit to some of their other ones and document your experience and impressions. This is awesome! The breakfast looked amazing!! Have you tried peanut milk? It was one of my favorites growing up, not sure if they still make it.
    My first dog here in the US was named after San Mao, did not realize she committed suicide.
    When I was in Taiwan in the 1990's, my uncle took me to a native tribes showcase village and he was able to talk to some of the elderly tribespeople in Japanese. Under Japanese occupation, they were forced to learn Japanese, but they did not learned Chinese after WWII.
    Thanks for the video, this is very informative. I am saving this video so I know where to go the next time I am in Taiwan.

    • @LayersOfJenn

      I haven’t tried peanut milk but I’ve had watermelon, banana, and papaya milk and they were all delicious.
      And yes unfortunately she committed suicide :(

    • @LayersOfJenn

  • @XSemperIdem5
    @XSemperIdem5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very interesting and you're right, I didn't know much of anything about the tribes. I did watch a video a while back about the face tattoos and when they were banned.
    Such pretty areas and I think the clouds made it even prettier.
    And yes, that kitty was too cute.

    • @LayersOfJenn
      @LayersOfJenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They house a lot of the cats in the area and feed them! Bonus points for me❤️
