I have a 2000 Mitsubish Montero Sport XLS Loaded 4X4. Excellent car Bought it new and it's a workhorse. Currently, need a head gasket. But have travelled from Florida to California, to Mexico, and up the West Coast into Canada and came back to the US near Toronto. Total trip 10,856 miles and not even a hickup! Great vehicle! Exhaust system is 304 Stainless and has lasted 18 years. I have replaced the Tires, Brakes, and Battery once. I change oil every 6,000 miles and run synthetic!
I recognize that the plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data', but I will offer that I bought an 02 Montero Sport in Feb. 2002. It currently has 200,000 miles and has been my daily driver the entire time. I've had to replace the valve gasket seal (100k) and rebuild the transmission (200k), but overall the SUV has been incredibly stable and smooth-running.
Now I Don’t See The ES Too Often. Especially The 1997-2001. My Grandpa Had A 2000 Montero Sport ES It Was A Great Car. Then He Sold It To My Uncle I Still See It And It Runs Great.
2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport So Many Times Faster And Better Than 2022 And 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 ES And 2022 And 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
I am planning to buy a Montero Sport 2003 now in 2020. Is it safe to buy such an old vehicle now? How is reliability? In my country land cruisers are damn expensive and the only choices for me are RAV4 2002 and Montero Sport 2003. I love the RAV4 but Montero Sport has the better ground clearance and 7 seats. I have no doubts about the RAV4's reliability. But I am unaware of Montero Sports. Please help me with your opinion.
Thanks. I was thinking of getting one. Now I know it is not that different than an 06 liberty in size and comfort, the two reasons why I'm looking to get out of a liberty.
believe it or not, southern SUVs are mostly RWD. people buy them to haul their kids around so its not like their going offroad. people do the same here in NY but it snows in the winter so 4WD is needed.
It depends, if it's the valve seals it's going to give you a white smoke. It's doing it mostly kn cold started. I am going to change them on mine and pretty much all the seals and hoses.
@@mucialmichaud8020 I am pretty sure that's what it is. I had a gasket leak as well but added some leak stop until it gets a bit warmer out and I can remove the intake to get to the crank case and replace all of the seals and gaskets. I bought the Montero sport as a winter truck. I like the look, but after driving it I don't feel like I'm driving an 18 year old SUV. I like all the tech in my new car, but I drive ole Betsy even when it's not snowing. Threw some AT tires on, a roof rack, air horn, and light bar.
those owners have large families. i know acouple friends at school that have like 4-6 siblings. granted, the older ones drive their own cars, but their suburban 4WD is about 10 years old. and my friends are like 15. so i can see when my friends were 5 their whole family rode it for a roadtrip.a Subaru couldn't haul 5 kids and luggage. those full size SUVs are pretty useful though. they can tow alot, and having a SUV is better than a pickup. FYI NY city doesnt allow personal use pickup/work vans.
also, when you have a baby/toddler, a mid-sized SUV isn't going to be big enough for the saftey seat, stroller, bag etc. plus a passenger. my friend's little brother is 1 year younger than her, so im guessing their parents basically needed a suburban cause a normal mid-sized SUV like a 4runner wouldnt be able to handle 2 baby seats, 2strollers, and the rest of her 3 brothers or something(shes got like 5brothers i cant even keep track lol). if i had 5 kids...i dont know of any SUV big enough lol
The people that live on the end on my street have a white one and it can smoke out the whole neighbor hood it burns oil so bad. They're selling it for something different soon and I can't wait for it to be gone.
Looking to buy one of these and yes, most are trashed. Its really hard to find a nice one. You said they smoke and have drive-line vibrations.. this is the first I've heard of these issues. Are they easily remedied?
no way! lol i have nothing against mini vans, i mean it would be a great car for driving kids around, but if you had to tow a heavy trailer(anything over 2500lbs) you NEED a full-size V8 SUV. and with towing, you have to consider the car's GVWR. mini vans have a lower GVWR compared to a Tahoe or Expedition, therefore they could never tow a 1000lbs trailer.
i have a 2000 montero. im tryna figure out why my air conditioning makes a rumble tapping noise when i turn a.c on ?? does eny 1 have eny idea what the reason for it?
indeed 3000lbs is more than enough for the normal family. but for if the parents worked at a farm or worked with cars, 3000lbs would never tow a car trailer and a small car.
yeah and thats where the problem is. soccor moms that use tahoe and suburbans to go to walmart or the grocery store. its a versitile SUV, but imo just way too big. and some people use pickup trucks too. i mean back in 2000 pickup trucks didnt have rear side airbags, or entertainment systems etc. i guess they still believe that heavy bof SUVs are safer than minivans like the toyota sienna.
7 or 8 years !? then it died only 7 years , great vehicle? doesnt seem so... my 86 subaru is still running strong no problems 221k miles how many miles did it have?
The Montero sport was cheaper by about $3000, so there was a noticeable difference in the leg room and shoulder room of the car. They also didn't seem like it had enough power until it really stretched its legs. It also wasn't as good offroad because it was body on frame and lower. I'd just opt for the regular Montero.
Here in Brazil is called Pajero, but I know would be funny if it had that name in countries where Spanish is spoken! Search Google for Mitsubishi Pajero and you will see that's truth!
Some people prefer to be adept for every situation... I missed a lot of opportunities bc Ive not had the right vehicle. SUVs are to show off as well; get over it.

I have a quick question, are they reliable? I'm thinking on buying a 2002 with 125,000

I have the same car love it it’s over 200,000 miles still running like new go up hill and down hill often never given me a problem
What are the maintenance requirements?
Bought one yesterday 1800 with 138xxx miles..its really nice too
The 2nd-generation Montero Sport is a best-seller here in the Philippines. The 2nd-generation is definitely a BIG departure from this 1st-gen. one.
The LS is not the base trim Intechdude, the ES was.
Maybe the last year had the LS as base

Montero Sport a.k.a. Shogun Sport, Pajero Sport, Nativa, Challenger, Pajero Dakar, & Strada G-Wagon.
What is the price for the black Mitsubishi Montero
My aunt had this car. She hated it so much. She got a 2011 ford fiesta to replace her car. The montero had so many issues
I heard the same thing

most people dont haul a 5000 lb load or live or work on a farm
most people buy a suv to go to walmart and stuff full of junk

in the us is montero sport in south america and puerto rico is nativa

Why are the RPM's that Elevated at 70 MPH? most car's ive been in cruise at or slightly above 2K on the highway.
Why have no one answered this :@

Bought one two weeks ago and outside the paint peeling on hood valve cover seals are common it tends to leak a lot of oil.
@@shaolinstyles3316 any other thoughts? I’m looking at a 2003 montero sport
@@awabification leaks a lot of oil due to cheap seals. Keep those valve cover gaskets and piston rings changed and you have a pretty sweet ride..

Change the compressor belt
The clutch needs replacing

You should make a review on the larger Montero la cara de gato. 01 06

when do you need to haul a 3000 lb trailer ?
most a mini van can haul
Hi everyone. where can I get a lot of info about normal issues about this car and how to fix all of then ? everything about this car..
I bought an online Manual
The police uses these things in my country, we may not have Tahoe's but we have Montero's, lol.

you dont need a suburban
its called a mini van
in Puerto Rico name nativa
My hold light comes on why, I need some help, Thanks!
Deborah Hopper check and see if your at mode is on or pushed in
It’s the button under the hazards and rear defroster
most people dont pull dilly and your only going to save like 3 mpg tops from on a 2wd suv
Those valve cover seals though :/
I had the same year with the same problem. Definitely something common for this vehicle
these a first generation montero?
ian jereza 2 generation

they should buy a subaru

2wd is stupid , why do people want bad gas mileage , is it worth it just to have a bigger car?
2WD SUVs are not useless. It’s stupid to go off road in a 2WD. It’s also stupid to lift a 2WD SUV or truck.
Some of those cars they have on the lot are garbage. I'm surprised anyone even bids on them
dummy proof
a 2wd montero ?! how pointless!!!
One of my ex girlfriends used to have a montero sport. I hated that car so i broke up with her. The end
