Thank you for the enjoyable train ride. There have been lots of changes since I left San Carlos 25 years ago. We had several at grade crossings then. I remember when Amtrak took over from SP. The trainmaster horns weren't bad. The F40s were awful.
The F40 horns aren’t like the SP’s but it was a joy to hear them today because they will large disappear. Don’t ask me what I think of the new EMU horns
@@3985uprr I liked the Leslie horns that will on the old F units. SP was always easy on the horns. When CalTrain took over with the F40 horns they used to wake me up when I lived in San Carlos.
Back in the Southern Pacific commuter train steam days, many of the locomotives were equipped with air horns to operate the crossing protection at station stops.
Unfortunately the terrible horn on 4024 was caused after not being in service since November 2022. It ended up hitting a vehicle and the valve on the horn got damaged therefore they had to get a new valve causing the horn to sound like this, the other valve made the horn sound super very weak from what I’ve heard
.Man, that is a gorgeous Sun Set out there. I assume the Catenary system on Cal Tran wouldn't be the correct voltage to run a GG1. But man, that would be something.
@@3985uprr That would be a site seeing a GG-1 Running again. That would be, kind of like having the UP 4014 Rounding the Famous Horseshoe Curve in Altoona Pennsylvania. Have a Good Time Mr. Tim and Safe travels going home
Hope you return to the Bay Area in the near future so you can give us your insight when the San Jose to San Francisco goes electric on or shortly after Sept. 21, 2024.
@@3985uprr Sure it won't be the same, but won't it be better? Higher acceleration, better service pattern, better amenities, better for the environment, and a modern interior including live information screens, finally.
Imagine that they used the ACS-64s on Caltrain for Electrification. Dammmm that would be awesome 🤩 Great ride ahh I enjoyed it to the fullest. Word that horn had moments where it sounded that it was truly screaming Jaja. What’s the Top 🔝 speed of Caltrain ? Is it 80 close to 100 ? Also no hate towards Caltrains electric fleet, but they sure don’t look good lol well that’s just me.
@@3985uprr Well yeah that’s true my Bro and you also did mentioned that they would have horrible sounding horns. To me it’s just that they aren’t pretty lol 😂 I’ve seen better looking electric trains , but these uff man, can’t say good looking here lol 😂 EMD Forever.
I honestly like all the cabcars on Caltrain no matter what their P2 horns sound like. It's gonna be sad to see these gallery cars go. Cool video! What camera did you use and was it hand held or with a stand of some sort?
A very different ride at night! Thanks for enduring the horn for our selfish enjoyment!👍

Beautiful commute. That sky is breathtaking!
Welcome back to the Bay Area! As I said during your last visit, You should of been here when SP was running the show! Regards, Jim Evans, Burlingame

They still do
That was an interesting ride. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it

I guess you would know. I managed to survive the experience.

25kv. The GG1’s would burn

I believe that CalTrain will be using 25KV 60 Hz. Pennzy was 11KV at 25 Hz.

I don’t anticipate coming back unless due to extenuating circumstances. It just won’t be the same anymore.

80 max. I don’t really know what to think of the MU’s. as long as I’ve lived that has been a locomotive hauled territory. To me it will be boring.

An iPhone right up against the glass
@@3985uprr Thanks
Excellent video
Are you being pushed by electric (via catenary) or diesel-electric power in this video?
Still diesel. They don’t have electric locomotives. Only mu’s. They supposedly start on September 21.

Nice 👌
Thanks!
What was that sound every time the train went over a grade crossing?
❤
Why it didn't blow the horn when it passed the silent crossing? just curious.
Some local cities have a no horn ordinance because of complaints by neighbors. Many times those grade crossings have been updated with quad gates.
