Yeah dude I live in Canada and all we can carry is our blades, that too only for any other reason then self defense, and knowing what I know I know how dangerous being inside a vehicle is especially when the does unlocked and Ur strapped in Ur fcked, so yeah keeping them doors locked is the best idea always!

Why was your door unlocked in the first place ? Do you have power door locks ? If so wouldn't have been easier, safer and wiser to LOCK the door, rather than deploying and nearly using your weapon ? Seems to me being prepared starts with the basics, such as locking the doors, lot smarter than making things more complicated, and potentially deadly

My teenage daughter and I were just talking about situational awareness today. She is lovely but doesn’t quite have the understanding of how quick things can go wrong if you are not aware. I know, because I was like her when I was young, and it was only after some pretty freaky experiences that I learned to watch my surroundings more carefully. So I told her of some of the things that opened my eyes. She was shocked and hopefully it made her think a little.
Anyhoo... that last bit had me cracking up. 😆 I’m a supporter of people who need help to seek it, but good lord... this was a perfect parody of people I know in real life!🙄

My takeaway is keep doors locked at all times if your in the vehicle. Be predisposed to driving away if your spidey senses detect something wrong. Don’t sit in your vehicle stopped and do distracting things. Glad it worked out in a good way for everyone involved.

I've had several similar incidents to the one you described, so just because it hasn't happened to you....yet, don't think it won't. America has become a much more dangerous place to live in over the last 20 odd years. And I haven't seen anything indicating it's about to get safer. In fact just the opposite has happened, the danger level has increased. So we must also increase our levels of awareness and preparation.

I had a junkie try to open my door while I was getting my groceries situated inside my car. I've always instinctively locked the door in the same motion as closing it, so they were deterred and I was able to drive away.
I also had someone trying to get into my house in the middle of the night. It turned out to be my drunk next door neighbor. He had walked back from a party and couldn't read the house numbers and thought it was his house. All of the houses in the row were identical from the outside.
Always lock your doors as soon as you close them. You never know if a drunk neighbor will come in and find a stranger in "their" house and react violently.

A few years ago my wife was walking out of a store and started getting harassed for money. The guy wasn’t talking no for an answer and kept advancing. She ended up kicking him straight in the crotch. For context, my wife is a former big 10 all American soccer player and works out a lot. That dude is still probably searching for his testies. Funny story but it could have gone worse. She carries religiously now.

So many don’t realise the power of a good hard kick there. If a woman is about to get attacked by another woman a good hard kick there will still hurts a lot. As will a good stomp kick to the upper stomach or chest. It gains precious seconds.

Excellent idea, but on some vehicles (Toyotas for sure, since I have one), when/if you put the vehicle in park, it unlocks ALL the doors. If there is a way to change this, I'm not aware of it yet. I've developed the habit of manually hitting the lock button unless I'm actually getting out.

👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣 All jokes aside though that could of ending up a whole lot worse. Whether it’s a older or newer vehicle I always have the doors lock no matter who’s with me or where I’m at. What would of bother me is him trying to do that to somebody else. Calling law enforcement would of been step one and try to help them catch this guy. There are two options for people like that. Lock them up or six feet under. At the end of the day knowing that they were off the streets or not able to hurt anybody else would of put me at ease. Thank God you made it out safe and able to go home.👍🍻

I always keep my doors locked and I keep my backseat filled up with "trash" because we have had homeless people get into employee vehicles to sleep. One was in the backseat and the employee didn't notice until she went to the back to put her groceries inside. Scary stuff and you don't have to live in a big city for things to happen.

Common sense also says to always travel with all of your doors locked and weapon at hand... Dangggg!!! That was you??? I wasted 40bux on an Uber Lyft to go see my fellow vet friend down to the VA and you skeert me by pulling your sidearm like that... I thought you was my Uber taxi... Instead I spent the next half hour showering and changing my draws n socks... But seriously situational awareness knows no quitting time or safe places...

When stuff like that happens so fast it’s hard to compute what the threat is really up to- But I’d say he probably was going to jack you and was armed himself with a knife or something. Because he didn’t wave or say something through the window, it probably wasn’t an attempted drug sale. The second he tried to open your door he posed a potentially deadly threat. Good job living to tell about it.

Makes me feel like I need therapy, too. Glad you survived to relive that horrifying episode for us. Next time I park at a closed-up gas station, vacant except for the weeds in the crevasses, see a freaky, sketchy looking character in a hoodie approaching my ve-hickle, I will lay in on the horn, reach over and lock the passenger door, then make a quick come back and lock mine, while shouting my location to my buddy on the phone, then go to snapping pics, converting to video, engaging my 5000 lumen flashlight, while drawing my side piece. So glad you survived. Sounds like you have a good Dr too! 🤓

More than a few times I have been approached when filling my bassboat at gas stations. Usually in Florida and these are always the same Folks. Half the time they circle the area on a bicycle first.
As they approach, I make it clear that they should stay back, I have no money to give and do not want to talk to anyone. They will say something like "sure you have money as you have this fine bassboat". I repeat my command and am very focused on the situation. No chatter with anyone else. Also, I do not show disrespect but make sure they I have zero fear of them.
I have even pulled the pump handle out of the gas tank and pointed it (but not in a threatening manner) at them when at a distance. Otherwise, I move around the boat or jump on the boat and repeat myself.
Truck is always locked as long as I am in the truck and locked when I am outside the truck. Wife even knows that vehicles are locked once we are inside them and always at gas stations or when the vehicles are in Park.
I am always prepared but, you never know.
Note: If you ever have to draw, it could cost you $$$ if the POS calls the Police.
    Be well.
