I don't know if it was cannon or not but I saw a video on the history of the Constitution Refit Class project and it stated in the beginning the Constitution Class was beginning to show it's age and was on the verge of being decommissioned in favor of new Starship classes like the Miranda Class that came into service at the same time but because of the famous voyages of the Enterprise and her crew that became heroes in the eyes of Federation citizens Starfleet command decided it was time for the Constitution Class to get a serious upgrade so because of her history and as a hero ship to the Federation the Enterprise was chosen for those upgrades that were built into the Miranda Class and so the Constitution Refit Class was born with the Enterprise being the Federation Flagship.

This was surely the best StarTrek. Photography awesome, awesome music, awesome storyline, clever, cerebral and compatible with what was expected of a film version of the series, without resort to conflicts between people and star wars. A true journey into the unknown, to save humanity. TMP was the best of StarTreks, and this did not betray its essence.

This is one of the most beautiful scenes in the whole Star Trek movie series. Great filmography, the unveiling of the refitted Enterprise A, the timeless Jerry Goldsmith score -- everything came together perfectly. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Actually the ship in this movie is not the ncc-1701a Enterprise it's the original the A's predecessor beautiful nonetheless though.

IMHO Paramount owed this to us old timers. The effects budget on the TOS kept getting in the way and the effects were less than wonderful. When I saw this in the movie I was totally flabbergasted. Awesome!!

I saw St- TMp on Opening Day on Decmeber 7th, 1979.
    I can't believe I was a kid once !
I was mesmorized. I recall getting dizzy from vertigo when the camera twisted over the Bridge of the Klingon Warship at the start of the movie. I remember hearing that other people had that happen to them too !
It was a big mistake that the Blue Warp lights were not included into the remastered version of the Original Ship( now Legend, like the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues). The ship should light up !

See how Kirk is gazing at Enterprise as one would a long-lost lover, and Scotty is enjoying every moment of Kirk's approval. Add the wonderful Goldsmith score and sweeping cinematography, and this becomes the ultimate reveal of a spacecraft in sci-fi history. Abrams wouldn't even know how to begin making a Trek this good. Still puts a shiver up my spine 30 odd years later.

  • @erentheca

1701 refit is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing of all the ships. It's always been my favorite by far.
This scene is not overdone at all. A real naval captain would probably take 5 laps around the ship, then spend several hours inspecting the inside of the ship. What's awesome about this movie and what Hollywood has lost is the ability to not rush and just enjoy the cinematography of a scene. Too many directors are just focused on keeping the adrenaline up.

  • @milw189
    @milw189 15 ปีที่แล้ว

Are you kidding???? The "Peek-a-boo" scenes of her are some of the best cinamatography EVER. In the book, Scotty does this fly-by on purpose to make Kirk WAIT to see the lady in her new outfit!!! OUTSTANDING!! I still tear up!

Some things just shouldn't be rushed. And this is a very good example of the director indulging himself. It's perfectly paced and Jerry Goldsmith's score was just superb - right down to the final docking of the pod at 4:21 to 4:35 Never better!!!

I remember this scene well when I was 14 in the movie theater. Up until this movie came out, Star Trek (TV) effects were cheesy at best. STTMP finally gave fans, Star Wars quality effects. Of all the ST movies, this is still my favorite scene. The music really sold it.

A lot of people criticize this scene for being too long and pointless. To me, it's one of the best moments in the whole film. This is the reunion of Star Trek fans with their beloved USS ENTERPRISE, which they hadn't seen in 10 years. They needed to give us a chance to drink in the atmosphere, to catch our breath at our first glimpse of her. Jerry Goldsmith's score captures the moment absolutely perfectly, and gives me chills every - single - time.

  • @mngentry
    @mngentry 12 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, it's a lot of psychological stuff involving ego and a desire to see things never change. The same thing happened when Next Generation came out but eventually everyone got along.
I'm personally not a fan of Abrams new angle BUT to each their own...and you can't argue with the box office returns.
Plus, you're not the first person I've met who found TOS through the 2009 movie. Glad you've joined the fan club. Welcome, my friend.
and of course Live long and prosper.

Actually this scene is quite plastic, and has a profound meaning for those who saw the original series: The reunion of the captain with his ship; Whoever has served the Navy, will understand the greatness of this moment... What a respectful way to show the magnitude of this Nave, in its various angles. Masterpiece

At 15, I saw the first Star Trek episode televised in Australia.
Prior to showing it was billed as 'the future, today", and words similar to this.
    I had to see it.
I begged, promised my life away, if only I could be allowed to watch the first episode.
I did, and at the end of 30 minutes, I was 'transported', filled with wonder, and curiosity.
I still wonder, and remain curious.
    Your words are my thoughts.
    'She' is a fine ship.

    I too, got chills.

You're right...but as a life-long fan...someone who saw the original series in the 60s on a b/w tv in a small Aussie town, I lived in hope that we would achieve something like the "Federation" in the future. When I watched the moon landing as a kid I was sure we were heading in the right direction. And now...it's all been pissed away to the wind. So sad...so very sad.

However, with this reveal of the Enterprise in Star Trek I... when the pod swings around and the music builds when everyone sees the ship head on... it looks like a chariot. One of my favorite cinematic sequences of all time.

I just love how this is the only ship in ANYTHING to receive this much attention on screen. It really couldn't work with any of the others. They're all grey and clunky looking. Even the E doesn't have the grace that this ship radiates. This is the Enterprise.

@Mozart1220 I think I understand you, but you can not deny that this small piece of the film faithfully translate the profound relationship between capitan, crew and their ship, a ship that has become e entity, a ship that became a myth, a ship that arouses devotion: USS-Enterprise. The enterprise does not say a word, but you feel respect about it, you feel as it was alive. Even today, I have not seen a feature film to be made to better comply with an original TV series, as this one.

They had every skillset they needed, and it would have been fun to see them finding ways to travel and work for the common good, while on the run. Oh well, it is what it is and I'm still a HUGE fan.

God I love this theme. It would have made J. J. Abrams' Star Trek feel so much more like a Star Trek movie (and not a Hollywood fan film) if they would've used it. They had changed SO many things for the movie (character's back stories and in some chases personalities) to make it fit "new time line" story, but did they have to change the theme song too?

As I've said before, the new Star Trek movie had to have been written by the programming staff at CBS. That movei is reminiscent of something Irwin Allen would write, not Gene Roddenberry. Definately didn't have an understanding of science.
If your interested, try finding a copy of 'inside Star Trek' produced by Columbia Records back in 1976. You'll find it gives some good insights.
