I never realized how meaningful it is for someone you look up to to say that they’re one of me- especially growing up in the states. It took me a while to realize that I was disconnected from my heritage and because of people like H.E.R., Bambu, Olivia Rodrigo, Valkyrae, and Bella Poarch, I have been instilled with a pride I didn’t know I was missing. A pride in the music, food, clothing, people, and in my skin 🇵🇭

Its about time the Philippines found out that she's half Filipino. She just turned 18 and her vocals and songwriting is just amazing.. She's now the most popular girl on the planet. (really) ever since her debut single drivers license was released in January. Followed by Dejavu and Good 4 u. She just released her Sour album last May 21st. Amazing for an 18 year old. A lot of people say that Olivia's voice is not that good. Or there's no special in it. That it was just a normal singing voice. And ask "why is she getting a lot of hype?". I tell you. It's her connection to the audience that made her so famous and her songs. She put her soul to her song that's why it connected to a lot of people. If any of have watched the Kdrama series hit Dream High, you'll see what I mean. Their teachers or evaluators focus at the audience whenever a student sings. They do not focus on technicalities. Well it is given already. They focus more on how many audience listens and enjoy the music the student is singing. No matter how good the student's voice, if he/she can't connect to the crowd, the evaluator gives him a failing grade.

In an interview, she did say this: “I'm part Filipina on my dad's side of the family. My Filipino heritage comes from my great-grandfather. He came on a boat from the Philippines when he was just a teenager.”
