H.E.R. has maturity beyond her years. You hear it in the music and see it in her day-to-day actions. She's awesome. I hope young women take note. They don't have to replicate her, but can be inspired to be themselves just as she has. I hope to hear more soulful music. I love how she embraces her Blackness.
Facts!
As a half black half Filipino girl I really look up to H.E.R I don’t know how to explain it, but I fully relate to her feeling too black for the Filipino kids and too Filipino for the black kids. I feel like I finally see a celebrity I feel extremely close too because she knows how to balance the two sides of herself as well as creatively. I guess in short, I love seeing someone who is like me.

it might be hard to be in between, but with your Filipino side, most Filipinos accept you with both arms being hospitable in nature & sees you guys as no different from us. as you search Jaya a well known mixed black Filipina back in the Philippines, apl.de.ap, et al& we are diverse so everybody is happy being together.
That is the reason the filipinos are hued as brown.. we cater both ends and between the spectrum of colors.

Had a short convo with H.E.R. on here during the Volume 1 album... Long story short, I was going through something, and i told her how most of her songs was about my life at that moment... She gave me a lot of inspiration to keep pushing on... I will NEVER forget sharing that moment with HER... Hope to meet her one day... GOD BLESS!!!

Ugh she’s such a vibe. So glad she’s getting the recognition she profoundly deserves. I’ll never forget 12 years ago when I watched her on the Today Show singing Alicia Keyes. So beautiful and talented. I went through a “singing & playing piano” phase because of HER. ❤️

I myself being black and growing up in the Philippines (10yrs) , I am truly proud that the is happening, like more biracial/black/international artists at getting known regardless of their color/skin. The fact that you share so much empowerment for everyone is so mind blowing and it makes me more indulge in it (your music and voice) I'm a huge fan of your work. love you and keep shining bright like a diamond

Considering filipino outlook on skin colour and the amount of colorism in filipino society, man im so glad being filipino, darker skinned or not, is starting to become a source of pride for all filipinos (mixed or not). I hope we grow out of that stupid mindset.
There’s colorism that’s class based before European Colonization and then there’s colorism based off the introduction of the a colonized mind!! It’s a dynamic that affects many groups throughout the world for centuries!! Hopefully, one day the mind will perceive people beyond these social stigmas!!!
I enjoyed this interview as an adult she still speaks to me. Her words are genuine gems. She dresses respectfully and carries herself well, I know that she will continue to be the positive role model for our daughters in the generations to come. God bless HER❤

I feel like people who have both their parents in their life have so much more confidence and are so much more stable emotion wise and know themselves much better. Ofcourse there are situations where its the opposite, but the people around me that have both parents have a whole different mindset, overall more happy with themselves and with where they are in life.
I feel you on that point.. I didn’t have either parent and confidence has definitely been a struggle well into my early 30’s

Heard this young lady performed playing the piano with confidence in one of the youtube videos maybe when she was 10 @NBC LIVE with her parents.I did not follow her career.Circa last year During The Global Citizen concert @Central park NY I saw her again playing guitar and i believed performing with Alicia Keys and i said i know her the girl with lot of talents and a unique voice.I did not even know that she was nominated at The Grammys but i know i subscribe to her youtube channel after her performance @Global Citizen.H.E.R.at 1:11 you have me hungry with all the Filipino food in your restaurant KABAYAN.What a small world sometime ago my entire family went there and eat.Next time i go there with my family i will be checking you out in person.I Am PROUD OF YOU KABABAYAN.Love this interview.SHINE YOUNG LADY.
