my father was an a and p mechanic for reeve from 1976 to 1991. i spent most of my childhood on 44c and 68r. i spent very little time on the ys11s in the summer we spent allot of time in cold bay fishing and hunting
I remember the Reeve YS-11, I flew a couple times on the YS-11 as a passenger.
@@VMCAviationVideos dick reeve purchased the ys11s to take the place of the dc3s and they were bought new. one of them had to be emergency landed on a sand bar and was left there for months. no one was hurt. the plane was taken out by sea gulls. that ys11 had a sea gull painted on it flipped over with an x for eyes. i spent quite a bit of time on tilly one of the 100 series 727s that later was bought by nato and went over seas.

Thanks for watching!
Revves, had some of the best pilots in the world! I remember flying in the Electra, non-stop, from Seatlle, to Dutch Harbor, in the early 80's....Good airline, great service!
Was the Seattle to Dutch Harbor a scheduled flight?
My dad, Don Gillette was a Reeve pilot on the Electra and retired in December 1983.
@@VMCAviationVideos They had scheduled service between Cold Bay and Seattle at certain times of the year. In the last few years before retirement, my dad would fly once a week Anchorage, Cold Bay, Seattle. Spend the night there and fly back: Seattle, Cold Bay, Anchorage. My dad, Don Gillette, retired in December 1983. His last flight was to St. Paul Island, one of the Pribilof islands. The auxiliary power unit they used to start the engines at St. Paul wouldn't start so his return flight was delayed and he only got to his retirement party late--which suited him since he didn't like to be the center of attention.
@@VMCAviationVideos Yes. This was the best way to move fishermen and process worker. At the peak, they had to charter extra flights.
Lovely coverage....
