- I'm Henry Tenby and I love Lockheed Electra! If one day was not enough, at YVR we were treated to a second day of Buffalo Airways Lockheed L-188 Electra action on Sunday, November 21, 2021. I think 21 must be a lucky number! My video filmed chops were rusty on the Saturday but on Sunday I was well practiced and we had the good fortune of Captain Dan Jones bringing the Electra off the runway on taxiway Bravo for a fabulous nose on view of the 4 Allison engines for all the spotters at the South Terminal observation deck platform. Nobodies like me do not get that access.
I find it intresting that Buffalo Airways has not changed the livery of the former Atlantic Airways except for painting the vertical fin, saving money I expect.
Still flying with the Union Jack flag.
I like Atlantic paint scheme ruined it painting tail red I think there's 2 In this colour both on cargo
Maybe this just left it to pay homage to the aircraft’s past as well. Its a nice touch I think.

I guess they can be purchased for washers from the DMAFB .. certification for ops in Canada would be either very costly or impossible.
It's dark but it's still a good capture. These turboprops do sound good, but would have a debate and argue with myself with Darts.
I think they are tied for me, I love them both, Darts and Allisons have a very cool sound. I love how the engine baritone changed as the plane taxiied and turned off runway onto taxiway Bravo towards the camera … the nose on view.

I am not a fan of electras but l admire a four engine turboprop planes. I think that 'buffalos' bought electras because they couldn't afford a Hercules. I am not an expert on engines but I think darts are smaller, cleaner and better shaped than Allyson', but Electra was an American plane so it has Allyson. For me electras and convairs were the Americans version or rivals of British viscount and avro hs748. I find the British planes more elegant than americans because of the dart engines. Nice video.
Thank you Juan, interesting observations on the planes. Yes the L-188 Electra is a lot less costly to acquire than a Hercules and can haul a similar weight payload as long as it is not oversized. Both planes are very happy operating at -60 degrees!
The Dart has significantly less power. It's an earlier and smaller engine. the 501D / T56 compares better with the Tyne TP.
