Yeah, I've cooked chicken thighs in mine when it was cloudy, just took longer but came out great. Excellent tip on leaving that gap to let the steam out on the pizza!
This is really cool. Not only does it look like it works well but I can see that it is really handy when you wnat to take it places with you. Thanks for sharing Beth!
What did you put down before putting the dough in for the pizza? I think parchment paper will burn at 425 degrees F and the oven gets to 500? Thank you and this is a great video.
We recommed Raw unrefined, unbleached parchment paper (www.rawthentic.com), for it is fine for high heats like 500 degrees. It does not contain Quilon, which is not eco-friendly. The 4" wide roll of Raw comes in a box of 13 feet. Other use a silicone mat cut to fit the tube. Hope that helps!
I do have a few questions. I bet a lot of these thing will be given as gifts and end up in the secondary market like goodwill. what should one look for to make sure it is still good. also...is there some sort of temperature gauge for how hot it is getting? this may be a really great thing for crafters too.
+Sislertx There is no gauge, so I checked on it a few times. It would probably be a great idea to get an oven thermometer so you can gauge the temp while it is still cooking. As for checking that it is still good if you find it at a Goodwill, I would just make sure that the orange thing on the end of the tube next to the wooden handle is there. It makes sure that you get a solid closure. Other than that, if you have the tube and the reflectors are intact, you're good to go! Also make sure the little green scrubber is included, though I think you probably could order that as an accessory off the site.
Oh my goodness how cool is that sun oven! That pizza looks amazing. I'm assuming you need to live in a warm climate in order for this to work properly yes? I mean you can't use it if you don't have much sun
+FitAnge S You can use it when there isn't much sun - it will take longer to cook, but will cook. The crumble I made was done in very overcast weather, so it did take over an hour to get that crumble nice and crunchy.
I just bought this, and I am sorry it does not make a lot of food. I am alone and it may make enough for me. I am thin and don't eat much. But I enjoyed your video very much especially the pizza idea.
Aloha, Beth. That pizza looks fantastic. You really know your stuff in the kitchen. I have a question: what's your favorite fruity pie recipe? Please let me know. Have a lovely day, Beth. Aloha. :) 💖💖💖
+Kulinary Kreations f you are camping, hiking or on the beach this would come in very hand, though. I couldn't go to the beach because my mother was ill and care for her, otherwise I would have prepared all of this at the beach where my BFF and I had planned on meeting. It is also an alternative to other sources like fuel and such. Think green & clean. Nothing killing that dreaded ozone layer.
+Skyhawk1987Turbo I said the scampi was done in 20 minutes. The pizza took around 30 minutes because the sky became overcast. The crumble took over an hour because it was overcast almost the entire time it was in there.
I'm cringing, seeing that glass tube that high off the ground on that very unstable table on grass, any wind and its down on the ground the legs on that table are so close together a table that has legs spread out more or right on the ground would be best
+rowelle Not if you are camping, hiking or on the beach it isn't! That's true. But because of the shape of the cooker, you're very limited to what you can make. The shrimp scampi shouldn't count as a dish because you were only able to cook the shrimp on it. If you were camping, you would need a pot to boil the noodles, in which case you could just use the pot to cook everything in. Also, it's great that you live in Hawai'i where you can take advantage of the sun. I was born and raised on Maui, but now live in Seattle. I don't think this cooker would work much in Seattle where it rains all the time, lol.
+rowelle You can cook the noodles in there as well. It would just need very minimal water. I cooked it inside, to save time and feed the fam lunch. Also, it will cook with little to no sun. The pamphlet says it will even cook at night. Do not ask me how, but I may actually try it because I have an inquisitive side that just won't rest.
I just watched 20 videos about GoSun solar stoves and yours was concise and by far (!) the most creative! Thank you! I can’t wait to try pizza now!

+CookingAndCrafting LOL Beth 🙃
+FitAnge S :p
Are you still using this?
It's neat, but I'll stick to my stove/oven and grills, but TFS Beth :)

***** No I get it. It would be good for that, but while at home much easier to stick to the good ol fashioned way for me. :)
and i like solar
Never said how long this stuff takes to cook
+Skyhawk1987Turbo I said the scampi was done in 20 minutes.
The pizza took around 30 minutes because the sky became overcast.
The crumble took over an hour because it was overcast almost the entire time it was in there.
WHY are the videos not loading!!!
I wonder if you could do like a slopy joe with this.
Absolutely! I've made meaty chili in mine. There is no reason sloppy joe wouldn't work. How fast it cooks will depend on volume.
Damn, I want that pizza homie! >:[
interesting :-)
+buglady58 It is!!

Is that a tattoo I spy? 😉 What is it?
+Ruthie It is. Depends on which one you saw lol. The lotus or the yin yang?
Dam leave it closed Lady
Looks like a waste of time.
