Changing stuff up, optimizing, then changing it up later on and optimizing them again... there's no reason to optimize it now when it's not even on beta yet
@@Aki-ow9hd yeah I agree. Although adding in DLSS does make fps alot more playable and less vertigo headachy after playing for awhile. I'm not a fan of this update, a few core things I enjoy in the game are abit too buggy for a stressfree playthrough. not being able to fire a gun after reloading, or dropping a gun after reloading is a huge oopsie. plus i have an error with all my drake ships, none of them are usable/cant fly them
Don't know about you guys but since coming back the game runs way worse for me now, even with all the right settings, it drops frame more and freeze for seconds even in places that shouldn't, like a VRT mission iver a mining facility
I am still amazed how they went from "Every major patch is very broken" to "we wil just add minor features with every patch" and then suddenly they realized that they know what they are doing and released this huge patch. There are so many changes (many of them change the game completely like MM or the new UI and others are more subtle) compared to previous patches that I am surprised the game runs at all (quite good for me actually). I really hope this is not just because they have been working on it for a long time but because they have more people, because then we will get way more content in future patches. I love the new UI and the Map system is insane, if they keep improving it even more (like changing the Icons for Planets/moons) SC will surely have one of the best UI's I have ever seen in a Space game.
You know, I really underestimated how much the updated water physics would do for me. The wake when flying low in a cutter gives the tingles in all the right places. A niche but nice feature
That opening montage was REALLY compelling, Morph. Gorgeous camera work! I especially loved the shots of the new EVA gameplay, and the tracking shot of the Ursa in the distribution center. Fantastic stuff.
Morph, this is some of the highest quality recordings of this game I have ever seen. Not even CIG's own footage looks this good. That intro dude (Mind Blown Emoji)!!!
Small correction, the reference version isnt about houdini, it just means its not upscaled textures. The planetary clouds arent the same as the gas clouds as they are dynamic and not static volumetric shapes. The planetary clouds are made by using a series of textures to define coverage and shape (they go over this in a previous citcon). The gas clouds are from houdini which is imported using VDBs and are static (they could be animated, but it'd be a cached animation). They both use the ray marching to render which is done in engine and has nothing to do with houdini.
The new FPS is indeed a whole new experience but the cinematography and the graphics with the Vulcan activated to me look like something new and awesome. Every time I approach a space station I really feel as if I am inside a Star Trek episode. And the view from inside the monitor of a Reclaimer's beam turret also looks great...I feel that the game is getting to its paces and catching up to what will eventually be...bugs are there but compared to two years ago this like a new game (like when I played Mass Effect 2 after playing ME1). Great work on the video as always. Really quality montage and narrative
Love those videos, you're following the development like a lot of people should, by loving the game for what it is while being very realistic and criticising what has to be criticised without being unusefuly aggressive. Really good coverage. Thanks :)
Someone linked this video to me, really well done. Love that fact your videos are in 21:9 so I can watch in full-screen properly without bars. You got a new subscriber and hell, maybe I'll win the giveaway on my first comment. You never know.
It’s a very conflicting thought if star citizen is gonna be worth the decade it took to make. Every year if feels like the progress is so slow but I have to be honest this patch is really makes the games launch just so much closer. Really feel like they’ve spent more time trying to flush out the features then keep adding a giant bowl of kraken attacks.
How's it going, so far? I'm late to the party, I know, but I'm also thinking about messing around in the test builds again, after one of those breaks I like to take now and then, and maybe even have some fun with new stuff to look at or play around with. New QoL features, better interfaces here and there, as well as performance/stability upgrades sound promising as well, if this video actually portraits somewhat of a gameplay reality that I might find myself in experiencing, and not the singular best-case scenario that tends to happen to almost no one. That's why I am always skeptical of SC Bread-Tubers and rather ask the folks who actually go out there and test the damn thing for weeks.
@@ancogaming Well, there have definitely been a number of QoL improvements -- the map especially is really nice. That being said, Star Citizen is still the poorly optimized, clunky, buggy mess that it always was. To be fair, I think a lot of it has to do with which server you get yourself onto -- some are "good" servers and some are "bad," but there's no way to tell which is which and no way to choose -- it's very luck of the draw. I never understand how Morphologis makes his videos look so good -- the average SC experience is NOT represented AT ALL by his videos. There are hints of greatness, but the current state of the game is a mess. I have a 3080ti + Ryzen 5800x and the game runs like shit on medium settings. While the inventory system has definitely been improved, it only works like 80% of the time -- you'll press a button or try to shift an item from one inventory to another (looting) and it just won't work, like the game isn't registering your inputs. Same thing goes for turning on the engines on your ship, calling elevators, etc. I think that's all serverside stuff, and to be fair it might be particularly bad now since there are a ton of players online due to Invictus, but yeah. Bottom line is, the game is objectively better than it was, but still a buggy, laggy mess.
@@Fanunic Thanks so much for your response, I highly appreciate you taking the time and write an honest review of the overall experience. The fact that there is still server degradation, lag, server-side performance issues and package loss (i.e. the server-instances that run the longest with the most players leaving data/objects behind to trace run the shittiest) basically tells me all I need to know. Replication Layer - Database Exchange from persistently saved states and places that entities/objects are at still can't be streamed consistently, lossless and fast enough to clients, is what it tells me. So, they're not past this brick wall of technical debt and probably still have no idea how the hell to overcome it. Which isn't as bad as it sounds, honestly, don't get me wrong, it's just how it is until they can finally find a way to tackle these problems successfully as they did with dozens of others before, and by sheer determination that "that's not possible at this scale and in this detail" is not an acceptable answer. It's important that they push out new content, ships, meta changes in combat design and in-game assets to play around with in the meantime to keep us occupied, or else most of us can't be arsed to "test" what has gotten old over a year ago, and way longer than that in many ways.
Morph, like the others here, I must complement you on the cinematics in this video. You have a great eye for combining visuals to make your videos enjoyable to watch. The opening scenes in this video are attention-grabbing and make the game look fantastic. Great job!
Everytime I have a friend that wants to potentially get into star citizen I always send them here. You highlight the beauty and fundamental nature of the game without bias or too much theory crafting. Because of this, I absolutely love your videos
Why did Master Modes have to happen? Controller support and the Cinematic Experience. Catering to the Streamer Viewing experience. Marketing. The entire underlying notion of "Ships not Pips," the idea that you should be looking at and appreciating the pretty curves and shapes of the ships you're shooting at and vice versa. This is stupid. Backwards. The purpose of combat is combat. If it can look good, great. But if it plays bad and feels bad, if it's not fun and enjoyable, its appearance matters not one iota. Additionally, the vast majority of players ostensibly enjoyed the previous combat model more than they found it problematic - otherwise they wouldn't play. Was it perfect? Of course not, nothing is. The reality is, Master Modes was and is completely unnecessary from the player standpoint. This is entirely a forced decision from CIG based on their work from Squadron and a preconceived idea of what combat should _look like_ rather than how it should _play_ - and for me, it hasn't felt good, not in experimental modes, not in the PTU, and not now on Live.
Wow! Beautiful video, Morph! :) I had a lot of fun in 3.23 so far, when the server was performing well. - Now, IMHO, we really need server meshing, to reduce the load on each individual server, to give us an overall better experience. :)

Honestly, Master Modes is one of the worst additions to this version of SC. I might look good, but it feels bad. Every space fight is either boring or tedious and frustrating. The vast majority of in-game discussions I've had with people are at best a mixed reception in aggregate. A good number of people I've spoken to are inclined just to shelve the game while this combat model exists.

I'm getting back into SC after years away from the game. Been finding your videos very useful. Cheers.
Always nice to keep up with the star citizen news, great content
I love the style of your videos. Always informative and cinematic. Thank you again for another amazing video.
This cinematics in the begining - just mindblowing!
I took time off when they announced master modes and have come back to try it. Genuinely impressed, playing yesterday felt pretty stable with fewer noticeable issues than before.
