    So far Burgerkrieg has done all of the main gamelines except for demons so far. Vampires, mages, warewolves, waiths, hunters, fae, mummies.

    So to answer the “why aren’t there Technocracy campaigns” question, there are. The Technocracy was fleshed out over multiple editions and as of M20 the corebook treats both Traditions Mages and Technocrats as perfectly viable player options.

      “This seems relatable” *leans in, chair creaking* “that’s on purpose”
      The Technocracy is basically a lot of bad things in modern world authority figures embodied into a labyrinthine bureaucracy. Punk theming. Brainwashings (actual, non metaphorical, pick and choose and tweak this personality trait or this memory or this belief here or there to fit my goals brainwashing) is literally in their HR handbooks. That’s what Room 101 is for.

      Also, it’s less “un fantasies your urban fantasy” so much as “urbans your fantasy” which is what they effectively did in practice. They trying to do the first thing but did the second.

    Imagine control as a manifestation of the idea of the big brother, created by the subconscious belief of technocrats. Like the equivalent of a guardian angel but for MIB agents.

    The fact that no one knows the leadership of the Technocracy is really creepy considering their presence in space and extradimentional shenanigans I imagine the leadership may not even be counted as human and they are something alien like The Board from Control, even if they used to be human mages.
    Control, btw, might as well be a game about the Technocracy. A lot of fans of both like to headcanon it as such.
    It was funny seeing Airier die inside seeing how realistic the politics of Technocracy are. I think thats what makes WoD work as a setting is that for all the wild fantasy scenarios it creates, their results and the way people react to them is hilariously realistic.

    25:02 yeah static and dynamic magic are not same thing. Kindred can't use dynamic only static magic.

    The world of darkness games first came out publicly in 1991, however, the game (original vampire the masquerade) was being developed alongside several of the other books that came out later since either the early 80s (heavy work toward the final form it took) or late 70s (the attempts at making a game system Before it reshaped into what WoD eventually ran on.) depending on how you want to look at it. (Apparently the final draft of VtM took about 1 full year, having started compiling it in 1990). The technocracy group was published in the 1999 book, but they were apparently one of the first mage groups to be added to the potential list to flesh out.

    As for Terranorming, it might not KILL your Cowboy, but just change his occupation. Like the old webcomic "Accidental Centaurs" where two humans are transported to a universe where humans cannot exist...they're transformed to the closest possible humanlike things. Centaurs.

    Oh this fun stuff there are two kinds of magick/magic in mage static magic dynamic magic static mage craft can be done by anyone with sufficient knowledge and belief/will power the traditions refer to these as hedge mages or sorcery in older editions, technocracy calls them extra ordinary citizens. Static magic doesn't require an avatar but it's often stricter and more limited. Dynamic is basically the proper mages or technocrats who have much more freedom with what they do and they do have an avatar/genius a spirit guide situation in order to cause a mage to ascend.

    Given the actual SIZE of a Dyson sphere, the sheer data required to represent the entire thing would fill multiple 1000 gig hard drives.

    • @antonymash9586
      @antonymash9586 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Depends on the size, depend on son the level of detail. You don't have to build them to provide an earth like environment, and you don't have to build them to enclose a Sol like star. A hot surface around a red dwarf would be relatively small. An Arctic surface around a blue giant would be orders of magnitude larger than a "standard" one.

    • @RedwoodTheElf
      @RedwoodTheElf 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@antonymash9586 Even the relatively tiny "Ringworld" is 94 BILLION square Kilometers in surface area, and it's only 100 KM wide. Now change that from a ring to a sphere. Yeah, real big. We're talking about Alternate universes, so SOL would be the star it would be around, not a red dwarf or blue giant.

    • @antonymash9586
      @antonymash9586 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@RedwoodTheElf And yet it specified Alpha Centauri, not Sol. Didn't specify which one, though, that makes a difference.
      Furthermore, you do not have to build a Dyson sphere at a habitable range. If you just wanted a solar collector, you could build it a lot tighter in and thus smaller.

      @ However, the tighter a DS is, the stronger your antigravity needs to be. You could rotate it to keep the equator away from the sun, but the poles are a problem if it's one rigid structure, as nothing that size could be completely inflexible.

    Okay about the Dyson sphere how reality works is the further into the umbra and real space you go the less influence the consensus has mages had cities on all the planets in our solar system and mages would fly on literal ships galleons traversing the aether. Unfortunately thanks to consensus that kinda stopped being a thing. But luckily enough outside of the consensus any mage or technocrat can ignore all the rules and go ham. Really mage is a very fun system once people understand it.

  • @GavinHohenheim
    @GavinHohenheim 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    My headcanon regarding kindred casting dynamic magick is that you need a soul to cast magick, and the awakened and enlightened can channel their own soul for that purpose.
    But that's the rub. You need *a* soul to cast dynamic magick. It doesn't need to be yours, specifically.

  • @oldeskul
    @oldeskul 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    You flipping out about a Dyson Sphere around Alpha Centauri is completely warranted. Aliens might be a thing in WoD, then again they might not. Because there are mages who are so powerful and skilled with the sphere of time that they can live forever, see the timeline in all its entirety and know all of its secrets, and possibly travel forwards, backwards, or even sideways in time.
    Just to give you a taste of just how powerful mages can be, on the moons of the gas giants in our solar system lives exceedingly powerful mages, in their own personal magically-built fortresses, one to each moon, who occasionally hurl world-ending spells at one another. Why do they live out there? Why do the ocassionally throw world-ending spells at one another? Only they know, and they're not keen on talking, or even accepting anyone onto their personal moon to ask said questions. It has been theorized that they are the last vestiges of some sort of ancient war.

    So you kind of glossed over what BK said about static magic.
    Dynamic magic is freeform magic, the typical reality-bending stuff you typically associate with an Awakened Mage, although other entities like say demons can exercise dynamic magic, even if the scope of what they do may be more narrow.
    Static magic is basically magic that has somehow been incorporated into reality via Consensus and thus has to obey certain rules and restrictions. As an example, all modern technology is technically a form of static magic, but it's become so ingrained in the Consensus that it's been rendered as mundane as, say, rubbing sticks together to make fire or putting ice in your drink to cook it off.
    No, I am not kidding. Magic is such a loose concept in Mage that putting ice in your drink to make it colder would be considered a form of magic. This isn't Mages being stupid, it's just how Consensus defines reality and renders magic that happens frequently extremely mundane.
    Static magic works because Consensus says it does. Water freezes and turns to ice at 0°C and boils at 100°C and turns into steam because Consensus says it does, therefore if those conditions exist, water will naturally freeze and boil, and there are ways to tamper with this process to achieve different effects, like adding salt or alcohol to water to change its freezing point, but you don't need to be a Sleeper or an Awakened to do it, nor do you need one involved in the process.
    For something a bit more esoteric, the Tremere lost their ability to use dynamic magic once they became vampires and lost their Avatars, but static magic doesn't require an Avatar, therefore the Tremere were able to retain access to blood sorcery and work within the framework of what Mages could already do with dynamic blood magic, but they can't invent new forms of blood magic like a Mage can, only discover or modify their own static blood magic within certain limits as defined by Consensus.
    As an example, if the Tremere made their findings in the field of blood sorcery public and it didn't immediately get shut down, the idea of blood magic would become more imbedded within the global Consensus and the Tremere could do more and more with their blood sorcery as the idea of the potential of this 'new' form of magic caught on, but if it was too well explored and understood then blood sorcery would become much more rigid and harder to deviate from for non-Mages.
    This is basically what the Technocracy is doing, but they're using scientific sorcery, or just science, as the basis for their new paradigm of Consensus rather than blood sorcery

      @JetBalrog 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      More or less, it's a fancy way of saying that magic is actually, on some level, exactly what the Technocracy believes it to be, at least on some level. "Magic" is bending the laws of what's possible, so long as enough people believe it to be plausible that it doesn't cause the literal perceptions of people to reject you right out of reality itself- or at least... force you to conform to something plausible... like the examples my friends and I use for a prime example of a simple paradox error: cast fire magic and the gas lines near you explode instead of making a fireball, but manage to burn you in the process as an extremely minor effect. It goes out of control because you wanted a fireball but instead consensus says that fireball is impossible so the gas main blew up from a spontaneous spark.
      It's the inverse of "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" or whatever the exact wording is. Any sufficiently explained magic is indistinguishable from technology/the way the universe works. Once consensus accepts something, it's no longer magic, as it is what is expected, and magic is merely applying those forces in a way that makes your personal will over consensus stronger than anyone else's for that moment.
      Humans are 40k Orks in this setting. Believe it hard enough and it becomes real, so long as there's enough who believe in it.

    Hey Airier, im begging you to listen and watch the Stronger Than You Undertale Parody videos (the original being from Steven Universe), if you haven't watched any previously then i'd highly recommend watching the OG Sans, Chara and Frisk parodies way back in 2016 before watching the remade version of the Chara paraody released very recently.
    Trust me the animation quality on the last one is incredible and you won't regret it.
