Totally agree with Jw. Something has to be done to weed out some of the so called "electricians" in our industry. The poor workmanship and lack of technical knowledge is far to common. The electrical industry has to be better regulated somehow and sooner rather than later.
JW say there has to be ongoing training for ever , isn’t that what CPDs are for. Ie continued personal development. It elegal for a home owner to install a boiler if they are not Gas safe registered, yet he can legally carry out his own electrical work, they should make that elegal as well and scrap Part P and shut down all the companies selling short courses. That would stop doggie builders .and those that took the short rout into the industry.I have always said the if you want to be a spark then you will have to do a minimum of four years at college and three years onsite continued training to build your experience. And complete at least two CPDs a month. But I believe the damage is done and the industry is broken beyond repair. Any changes would be to late bringing in a license? Won’t work Who would police it ? Do you really think building control or the NICEIC or NAPIT would send an inspector to every install , no it would be impossible. To police you can’t stop people doing things in there own homes that would be undemocratic. And there are always people who are happy and willing to break the law . This industry can never be fixed. But who am I to argue i’am just a humble spark who’s opinion means nothing.

I'd go one step further. Beyond common... I'd say it's standard.
Spot on..
