Yes and no. Rep only warranties the Ares for 1 year. Granted repairing an ares or Athena is dirt cheap. I do agree with you though this is a more complicated product and a $2K paper weight if it breaks. Also the $400 propriatary battery is insane maintenance.
@trollzone1 I don't think that a 'mechanical' gear such as REP Ares is a right comparison - I mean the thing that can possibly breaks are the pulleys, the cable or stuff like that - even after warranty you could fix it by your self with basic, available tools. Now, Voltra 1 is a high-tec electronic device... if it breaks after warranty - your done, this thing is just a brick, a paperweight.
@@Jacob_Ryfen you literally said the same thing I did…all I was saying was it’s not necessary a sign a manufacturer isn’t confident in their product. Nearly all treadmills have a 1 yr warranty they’re probably copying the terms that are common in the industry.
I think this definitely has a place in the future of home gyms, especially small spaces. I forsee Gen2 offering more resistance options but until the price comes down I think it'll be on the fringe of home gym use.
Lol no joke this is my biggest concern about the product. Especially considering that if a motor can consistently put out 200 lbs of force, you know it's capable of even more
they can make a clear hard plastic flip cover to the screen area for a quick fix on protecting the screen. flip up the screen set your weight flip the screen back down.
Hey guys, big ups to Coop for checking us out. We understand the concern about the one-year warranty so we'll try to address that. Our decision is based on the portable design of VOLTRA, which means it's likely to be used in a variety of places and potentially on the road, increasing the potential for wear and tear. This warranty is in place to prevent mishandling and ensure product integrity. However, we plan to implement: - Extended maintenance care for replacement parts at low cost (unlimited cable replacement in certain period for example). - An extended warranty at a fair cost. - Standalone, replaceable parts for those who opt out of care plan (battery and cable replacements are up, but price is TBC). We'll also add our batteries are solid, we anticipate at least 3-5 years of battery life, this is definitely not something that needs replacing annually. This is designed for high performance facilities! Cheers guys and hope that helps.
I don't know if this is already possible but: Can the device be used while in charge? If yes, can it draw power directly from the AC outlet plug instead from the battery when plugged in? the reason I ask is some people may have this device in a set place and not be moved around so much, so drawing directly from the power plug can help the battery last longer.
Can you elaborate on the "plan to"s? Like how far out are these plans to be implemented? And would they be retroactive--could I buy a unit now, and then buy some extended warranty or care plan later when you roll it out?
This looks great but there is no way in hell I would buy this with a 12mo warranty. And everyone assumes that you will actually honor claims and be able to replace these smoothly for customers because I'd be surprised to find out if it is very repairable internally. I'd be looking at maybe a 12mo unlimited, 36 mo prorated and a 60 mo extended warranty option at a minimum
Wait... did I see they also want $500 for a single wall mounted upright?! Super cool tech but they seem like they gouge on every part possible. $350 for a travel case, $40 for a single cheap D handle... when keppi rips off the tech ill give it a shot
Can you do a follow-up a year from this review? They just released some updates to Voltra that look interesting. It would be nice to get a sense of how things compare after a year's worth of updates.
I really want a pair to serve as a functional trainer in a small space but I need 4 things first: 1. Color options (black please) 2. Screen protection (maybe a flip cover) 3. Sync mode 4. Better warranty 5. (Bonus) get that price down
(Long comment, sorry folks) With respect to all commenting this price is too high, until you actually use this in practice, you have no idea how extraordinarily good it is. I’ve had one for three days and as Coop stated, it’s literally hospital grade form, fit, finish and function. This level of engineering and intelligent design at the bit/byte/bolt level is something I’ve very, very rarely experienced in a consumer product and NEVER in a first generation model. Every little detail, down to something as simple as their sliding rail mounting bracket is, from a design and engineering perspective, brilliantly done and overbuilt but deceptively simple to use (belying the intellectual horsepower required to design something clearly complex in function that can be used on different racks and yet so robust and simple in operation). The Voltra has 75lbs more resistance than my Rogue CT-1 Cable Tower (that I previously loved until I used the Voltra) but the CT-1 cost $3500 shipped, unloadable only via forklift and is now a 700lb 108” unintelligent immovable monolith in my garage. The Voltra has multiple very legitimate and useful resistance modes many of which just can’t be recreated with a traditional cable stack (weight stack, bands, dynamic resistance, an assistance feature, chains, eccentric overload, tbd as Beyond Power expands this). It is incredibly smart both on screen and in its app and yet (very hard to do) also VERY easy and intuitive to use on both and does all of this in something the size of a loaf of bread that weighs 13lbs. This level of portability, the unique resistance profiles and its intelligence enables replacement in my home gym of a lot more than my cable stack (or if I had two) a functional trainer but it is vastly superior in feel and functionally to both. For comparison: The Rogue FT-1 is $6500, weighs 1600lbs, has two 250 lb 2:1 stacks (or 125lb per side), is 90”x47”x107.5”, doesn’t actually give you a functionally tall trainer because the massive double pulley trolley hangs down very low and also ships only via freight and requires your own forklift to get off the truck. The Rep Ares is a rack add on (not for tall lifters with only a 93” option), has a 310 lb upgraded 2:1 stack (or 155lbs of resistance per stack) and starts at $3099. The Rep Arcadia starts at $2319 and is a FT with an upgraded 2:1 stack of 220lbs each (or 110lbs per stack) and the Rep FT-5000 has 2:1 224 lb stacks (or 122 lbs each) for $2499. None of these can practically also serve as a lat pulldown tower or a cable row machine as they’re too short and the single stack resistance of all of these is too low for most. If you add the cost of a single stack and/or a FT and a lat tower and a cable row machine, it’s going to be a lot more than $5K for two Voltras and mounts and none will have the impossible to replicate on dumb cable stacks, resistance profiles, an intelligent GUI and app again all in the size of a loaf of bread (x2 if you have two) that you can mount anywhere on your rack or garage gym. Beyond replacing a FT, cable stack, lat tower and cable machine, I think we’re just looking at the tip of the iceberg for what this Voltra can legitimately replace as I’ve been playing around with mounting on the low rail of my Monster rack and it turns into a vertical path calf raise either seated or standing (with feet on the rail) that feels as good as any machine I’ve used. Using that same bottom rack rail mounting point and standing on opposite sides of the rail, it serves as a perfectly vertical path belt squat (using a dip belt) and 200lbs of vertical resistance feels VERY hard, like the Squatmax MD (except I don’t have to straddle a 45lb plate) and if I had two, would be more resistance than I’d ever need. As far as the warranty concerns, I completely understand them and these were my concerns too as a cable stack is going to be hard to wear out and relatively easy to repair but I also understand Beyond Power’s recent statement about how to fairly warranty something like this that is so portable, so capable and yet will be subjected, as overbuilt as it is, to extreme user environments and conditions. I can say my experience with the company (I have no affiliation) has been extraordinarily good in a couple of exchanges I’ve had (super responsive, WAY above and beyond on everything). I can also say that a product with this much R&D and testing, a company who designed something this spectacularly good, this over-engineered, this beautifully built and designed with user replaceable components in mind from the ground up is just not going to skimp on customer support and or in standing behind their product. They need to sell boxes, lots of them and their support of this first gen is going to be critical to company viability so there can be second, third gen etc. There are a lot of great home gym companies doing exciting things. Beyond Power has done something uniquely special here though with (clearly) a big budget and a very smart, very talented team that really knows this space by creating a product in the Voltra I that I really didn’t think would be possible. This isn’t hype, this thing is really this good in practical use. It seems like a product from 10-15 years in the future or a tool to be used by NASA on a Mars expedition. In my opinion, the Voltra, after just a few days, is multiple levels above, from a function, performance, usefulness and space saving perspective, than anything else I’ve ever used.
@covidcarl7480I think this tool is a good development and I really want to train with it. But it costs as much as a motorcycle and if I had to choose, I would of course take the bike. This is not about politics, but about a product that is clearly too expensive. Until the prices come down, the cable pull is the better choice for me ✌️
Imagine a setup where you can attach it to a harness or a belt and do calisthenic workouts. Push-ups, pull ups, bent over rows, etc and just make everything assisted or weighted as the user's level changes.
no need to worry about the cable we use the same thing just larger at my job every day, synthetic slings can lift an absurd amount of weight. Ive cut them with an exacto knife before, even with a fresh blade they are VERY hard to cut through
@@turdrhinofiend frayed and ripped are very different though , fraying could be a problem but you could probably just take a lighter to bad spots on the cord
This looks amazing. I have been researching home equipment mostly needing to get weights and this seems more realistic to have in a small apartment. Now I need to win a small lottery and I’m set! I went to the gym for the first time ever in December 2023. I went for 2 hours, 2 days. I never got to use the machine I thought I wanted and while trying to work out my only my legs I got a killer upper body workout moving plates on and off and on and off. When I finally got into a leg machine I did not fit in it properly and did not get to use it. On the second day I almost witnessed a hate crime in the washroom and after my friend I went with told me he was going to move to another city for work I have not gone since. In 2021 I got 4 unofficial world records riding my exercise bike and have needed to also be lifting to progress but cannot fit into a gym or its schedule. This really seems like the answer I have been looking for. Thank you for showing me this.
Man putting your head in that harness and trusting that thing in that position is so sketch, so much length left on that cable. I have a Vitruvian, so I'm familiar with the software aspect of lifting. If there was a bug or something and that pulled your neck back you'd be dead.
The most tempted I have ever been to drop this kind of $$$ on weight stuff. The big plus for me (Coop skipped over) was that this really goes up in 1lb increments; and with the damping and eccentric variables, seems pretty unlimited on use. To me, the major use case is small muscle work. Think about face pulls, being able to progress in 1lb increments. Or side/rear laterals--how many stacks do you see where you are basically stuck, can't make the next jump without breaking form, but you are "stale" at your current load? Pressdowns, curls with extra eccentric. Core work. If I get this, it will be for delts, rotator cuff, and arm work
Well said. Most people are morons and think they need to be doing compound lifts with big weights with cable machines. No. That is not what cables are designed for. You bench with a barbell, you deadlift with a barbell, you row with a barbell / dumbbells... you do smaller, lighter-weight accessory movements with cables. 200lbs. is completely fine for this device.
I want two. I'd use two bar attachments on an olympic bar to supplement the few plates i'd have on hand. That way I wouldn't be limited to the 200lb per side and still don't have to move around plates between sets. The 1 year warranty is definitely a bummer. I'll be waiting a few years to see how these things hold up to regular use. This would be a great video idea for Coop.
Would be really nice if they also had modular motors so that you buy the outer shell and choose your motor. Also great for switching out a damaged/broken one in the future.
It is super cool, but the price is just a straight up no go. You can get a full functional trainer for just 1 of those.. and to use one of those, you need a rack.. you can get a speediance for one of those.. It looks awesome and such, but the price is just absolutely insane and the warranty being 12 months... something sketchy about that.
Use it to replace the weight stack on a REP Athena/Ares. You could have the same setup as the Athena, but with a 4 post rack. The adjustable handle on the front of the rack would be away from the LCD screen, minimizing the chances of cracking the screen. You also would save the cost of the additional uprights and crossmembers which would make the cost of that setup cheaper and you don’t need to worry about the cost of shipping 200-300 lb weight stacks. Also, the installation process on the rack becomes much easier and could be done in minutes vs hours. If you could also use that same system and attach it to lever arms it would be tremendous as well. It would make it far easier to move them up and down the rack as you something lighter like the mutant metal handles instead of the giant steel handle with attached weight horns.
Great product. I’d definitely love one, especially for the portability factor. I think the reason they don’t include the mount is because people would obviously have their preferences and so if they have to keep swapping the default mount out for others anyway, why not just have it as a separate purchase. That being said, the cost is already high and adding more onto the package makes it even more prohibitive for more people. As the price comes down, this will become a great piece of training equipment that I can see a lot of people using.
They need mounting option when traveling. I'm thinking something like what TRX does with door jams. The travel platform is nice for curls and deadlifts, but if i could get this to be secure on a door jam, it becomes a legit cable machine on the go
Would love to see a video where you create and show the versatility of what you were describing: the ultimate, clean, space efficient gym where budget isn’t the issue but space is at a premium (say a 10 x 11 room).
Just ordered based on your review. The feedback on the utility of one versus two sold me. 15-20 day delivery. The portability is going to be huge for me. This upgrades my work AND home gym. May find a way to incorporate this into RV travel as well.
The cable looks like it’s amsteel it’s a big item in the outdoors equipment scene: water, climbing, hammocks, ect. That cable looks like it’s 1/4 or 4/16ths cables so it’s rated for 7,400/11,900 lb.
Looks like the cable being used is UHMPE (alike Dyneema) which is stronger than steel cable by diameter, and appears to be around 3/16" or greater which would be about 1500lbs in certain knots, but the replacement kit seems to have a steel anchor plate to minimally reduce strength from 3600lbs or more depending on diameter. Would venture the anchor plate is the weak spot for the cable, and the mounting system to the bracket the weakest point in the whole system.
Just constructed my home gym, so first off, thanks Coop! I would love to get the Power Voltra, it would fit perfectly in my basement gym, ceiling only go to 79 inches, and with limited space, so many, if not all functional trainers just won't fit. This would be perfect but I can't justify 2.1-2.2k with just a one year warranty. I'll wait for gen 2 or 3 and see where the price point is then.
It's actually an ideal piece of "smart gym" equipment; it's in addition to rather than instead of, but $2500 is a lot to pay for accessory work. It will not replace free weights any time soon.
A guy did a review on this piece. Check his review out on TH-cam, he tells the absolute truth of how the system works and it's condition when used consistently. He said he trained 3-4 times a week with it and the cables only made it 5 months before they started to fray, shred. He shows the frayed cable and I would not trust the cable he showed. He did not tell how to handle the situation as he had not reached out to the company yet to see how they were gonna fix it so buyer beware. Honestly though for $5400 or more to your door for 2 of these units, one for each arm, imagine what you could buy for your gym with that kind of money. Entirely too expensive for the average home gym guy/girl.
That's how much I paid for my rogue rhino, my rogue rack, and like 6 plates. You can get a whole ass gym for that price. You could even get a rack and full set of weight stack cable machines for less than I paid for the rack and rhino, and those are high end prices. You can get a whole gym with machines if you go with the chinese companies and all those options will pretty much last your entire life. The pricing makes no sense.
@@btam83 Thnkx, I just think people should have access to as much info out there when thinking about spending this kind of money. I love Coop but we know he gets free stuff and to keep that train rolling he can't afford to be 100% honest. Not just him almost all reviewers are like that. We know how the game is played. I spoke with Gluck about reviewing this product and he said he is not reviewing it because Beyond Power told him they would send him the unit but he would have to send it back and they also would not give him an affiliate link or sponsor the video. When he asked why they said they dont send out free stuff and reviewers are buying it to review so he asked around and found out that was not true and we both know Coop did not buy this piece but he has been around the longest and has the highest following. When I saw that frayed cord I thought everyone should know this. Take Care
I ordered this based on your review. I have a small apartment with attached garage and I’m building my home gym in it - space is a premium and I was sold on the compact size and the eccentric function. I ordered this April 17, arrived April 29. So far I LOVE IT!!!! I got the adaptive mount and basic handle with it. I have a Rogue Monster Lite power rack I bought in March - it fits great. I also ordered the Rep tricep rope at the same time - it works great with it. I’ve got a leg attachment in the mail. I’m about to order the bar mount and carbon bar, wish I would have gotten them at the same time. I’m super excited about it, even if the color is terrible.
Doing some gymnastics moves on the rings!! Connecting it to the bar attachment, using the carabiner as a connector between the cable and a harness that taking some of your weight down Like a “dream machine” This one is a totally game changer in this world P.S will also work amazing with the one arm pull up too, as you can lower down the resistance of the rope as you progress
The damper feature is interesting to me. Coop, is it possible to use the damper setting to create deadlift reps the are grind reps. Screw the mount into your deadlift platform, load up a barbell to say 85% your max, attach it to the bar and have it keep the bar speed slow and grindy. This is a really unique stimulus that I don’t think anything else can do
Coop, when you do your review on the unitree pump, I’m hoping you will be able to get multiple units and compare the syncing across units vs this product. I currently sync 6 unitrees together 3 on each side) for eccentric squats (180lb up and 260lb down) and would be curious if the syncing feels about the same as this unit. I personally like the unitree for the very flexible mounting options and the price (about 1/2 the cost of this device for about the same weight) but I don’t have a perspective on the how the weights feel vs this product. Thanks for a great review (as always)!
Woah, you use 6 at a time?! Please, tell me more. Sounds like you're a power user and a big believer, I'd love to hear your experiences before I review. - Coop
@@GarageGymReviews Yeah, I know sounds like I'm nuts! I'm not sure if my use cases is all that common. I travel internationally a TON and was looking for some very portable options what would fit in my carry-on bags for lifting that could be mounted on just about anything (e.g., door jams, trees, my feet, etc) which was why I gravitated towards these. I purchased the first 2 from their kickstarter very inexpensively.. I then got two more when amazon ran a coupon for $50 off and finally picked up the last two on eBay... my average costs for each one is like $180 which made it a pretty affordable option for the weight I was getting. In all fairness, I only have used all 6 at the same time a handful of times (legs - I am able to anchor - using the foot anchor - them on the corners of my homemade or Harambee band platform). Normally I'm using 2-4 for things like lat pull downs, curls, triceps extension and flies - usually anchored to door jams in hotel rooms. I really like using the eccentric option and found that while it's not perfect, it syncs pretty well across multiple units at the same time. My question in my note was I'm curious as to whether the feeling of these is close to what you experienced with the Voltra. I suspect that the Voltra is better, and for sure, easier to manage vs trying to string together multiple devices, just was curious how much better! Hope this help...
I’m curious about this option as well, do you have a video of how you’re using it? I tried to look for other people with the same use case but haven’t had any lucky. Hopefully you or Coop can show this, because while this Voltra would be perfect for me, I can’t justify the price.
I love the Voltra, but make no mistake: The feel is unique to itself, not quite weighted cable or any other form of resistance. As far as letting go, that seems like a bad habit with any equipment..
There is another product by Unitree called the PUMP that is similar. I have been using it with its door anchors at clients homes that is a more budget option. Resistance only up to 45 lb s
How long is the cable? I have a cable machine in my basement but it's short since I only have 8' ceilings down there so the stack can't move very far because of the design of the machine. This basically completely negates room considerations which might be worth the money depending on how limited your space is. A tip for a firmware update for the company, called "the infinity set". You set your starting weight, the number of reps per weight decrease, and the amount of weight decrease. For example, start at 100lbs and every 5 reps reduce 5lbs, then you just go until you basically pass out. Consider it like a continuous delay free drop set.
Do they not have a mode opposite to 'chains' or 'bands' - i.e. the resistance gets lighter the further away from the unit the handle is? That would take advantage of stretch-mediated hypertrophy much better
Just watched after seeing the Home Gym awards for this year. I'll tell you for those with small spaces and non-rack set ups this is an incredibly versatile piece especially when considering it can mount to a 3x3 storage system. Plenty of space for storing adjustable dumbbells, attachments, plates and a barbell vertically. I had settled on a storage system with 3x3 uprights for the versatility you get with using attachments like dip bars, leg rollers etc. But this is a great way to do cable attachments without having to drill any holes or have a rack, just mount it to one of the uprights and you're set. GAME CHANGER!!!!
7:30 They need to detect rope tension in the direct drive motor sys, they can use current monitoring, an encoder for speed tracking, or a dedicated rope tension sensor, each with its own advantages and complexity.
The concept is great, how you can adjust the load on different phases of the exercise. The price, warranty etc? yeah when anything is 'new/the only' it does have negatives as a consumer.
I truley think this product or one similar will be the next essential versatile option same as a dumbell/barbell/cable(now replaced). There are just too many applications for this. One thing I hope they program would be the inverse of band tension, replicating what something like Prime equipment can accomplish.
How about the idea of some kind of attachment for a barbell or a specialized barbell that can take plates or in series with a weight stack? Why would you want to do this? Well, you can then do more than 200 lbs., you can have the different eccentric loading, and you can also get bar velocity and other stats. For example, I can imagine it attached to a barbell with 200 lbs of plates (kind of like band work or chains), and you’d be doing a 400 lb deadlift with varying eccentric loading and stats on bar movement.
Bottom line that you need to stop just thinking about how this might replace your current equipment but also how it also might be used in series with your current equipment.
If you attached this to a deadlift barbell with some plates and used it the way Coop was using the carbon-fiber bar, you wouldn’t have to worry about hitting the screen because the plates would keep that from happening.
Very cool that you can vary concentric and eccentric resistance. Also wild to see that thing shoot back. I like the carabiner aspect as I would be so annoyed to invest this much and then not be able to use attachments I already have
They need to add a strain gauge super slow mode like the ARX systems. That would be a killer. 100% on the dual mode. If they could track rope position (i.e., the amount of extension), they could possibly equalize. Maybe they could do inserts that you put in your weight stack for say a single stack functional trainer with an equalizing pulley.
Could probably attach this to a pull-up bar above in a rack for reverse band movements to deload bottom positions and vice verse as a way to add accommodating resistance to barbell movements. No more extensive setups for band or chain training on big powerlifting movements.
this really is revolutionary. it really does it all. an extra long cable for 20m explosive sprints would be great. reverse squats would be amazing with the heavier eccentric too.
Love on tonal how you can apply the weight from the handle when you are in a safe lifting position. If these guys offered even a delay on applying weight and gave you a few seconds to get into position that would be a killer feature. Hoping for a software update that includes this.
They could easily remove some features to being doen the price point. 1 Remove the battery and make it plug in. 2 If making it 2x or 3x larger makes it cheaper, do that.
They might be able to add a mechanism similar to a seatbelt, where the flywheel expands with speed and at a certain point it catches and stops. They could also create a cage or metal cover for the screen
To be honest this is kind of a must have for a new gym build. My gym woukd be basically the same as yours but with kyubell rather than or alongside the adjustable dumbells
A 12 month limited warranty that only seems to cover manufacturing defects (which I'm sure they will attempt to wiggle out of) is a GIANT red flag for something this expensive. That is an absolute deal breaker. Glad you called that out.
Few things to note: I can see these products putting the band market like X3 and Harambe out of business soon. Less hassle, more exact, multiple settings, etc. This makes me a little less interested in the Adonis. Still interested in the review but A new contender for my “hard earned dollars” has entered the room. All cable machines have been put on notice. Tech is coming in hard so companies will either have to lower their prices or find a way to work WITH these machines.
the twin mode been out of sync is concerning could you explain this a little more is there a software fix for this or is it that having two motors can never be in sync ? also you think the hardware is like tonal where they stick with the 1 unit and build around it or there will be different generations to come
If you took the Spud belt squat belt that comes with the Rhino, and connected it to 2 of them high on a rack, could maybe use it as a “saddle” to do assisted pull-ups and dips? So many exercises could be done if 2 of them could somehow be “synced” to provide exact same resistance at exact same time. Some sort of specialty bar (like Marrs or SSB with cable attachments) and could do good mornings, better platform could do belt squats, etc. Options are insane with a little creativity.
Although this appears to be great, this isn't something that i would invest in for a few years. It's like Tonal, eventually others come out and the price becomes more reasonable.
Cool product but the cost is crazy. Don't think they will ever get enough market share to make the economics work to lower the cost. I'm a buyer somewhere around 600.
I'm thinking if you put the two units close together and connect the 2 carabiners to the middle of the bar, not the ends, the instability will probably be less.
@@SmudgedScreen these aren’t mechanically driven like a pulley is the problem. Each has an independent motor that works forward and reverse. Direct drives usually are driven by magnets.
Maybe I missed it, but what's the safety feature for failed reps and software failure? This is my biggest concern with these motorized systems. You can't shimmy it off like a weight, it needs to shut it off without any user interaction when the software bugs out and reduce the weight for failed sets.
You showed a quick clip of an assisted Nordic - could you go into more detail about that harness and how to hook it up? Also wondering about other assisted body weight exercises, like pullups and dips (for those of us who aren't immortal, like you.) But seriously, I feel like it could be used well for rehab applications, having some support while you did an exercise with your bodyweight. An idea you might float to the company is to have an optional delay before the weight kicks in, allowing you to get into position while the device is unloaded, then there's a beep to let you know the weight is activated. Maybe they could even program in an option where the weight could automatically unload at the end of your set, after a certain number of reps. Hell, with the app, I'm sure they could allow you to program in drop sets. You could set it to decrease resistance after a certain number of reps, or the machine could clock when you were unable to complete a full concentric ROM and drop the weight by a set increment. And don't get me started on pairing it with an Alexa or just making it voice command enabled. The future is here!
The only thing missing here is leveraging bluetooth on/off like the Tonal has. Feels like a remote on/off button would be just a killer app for it. it already has capabilities beyond Tonal. Kind of hate to hear the dual mode isn't ready for prime time yet.
I also want to know how the battery holds up in lower temp. My gym is in an unfinished garage and it could get sub freezing at this time of year. I still use it to work out as long as it’s above 34 during the day.
This is the equivalent of electric powered cars to gas powered. Super great idea, but I'm sure lots of people will still love the idea of throwing plates around.
They need to program a mode that's the reverse of the band mode, i.e. that gets lighter as you go through the concentric concentric, and then it would be extra cool if you could still overload the eccentric.
Pretty expensive but actually seeing it at the end i think you are onto something. If you have a bunch of plate loaded machines like a leg extension/curl, rhino, lat pull down, etc you could move it around your gym like a traveling weight stack. Thats something id pay money for but not $2k

I think this definitely has a place in the future of home gyms, especially small spaces. I forsee Gen2 offering more resistance options but until the price comes down I think it'll be on the fringe of home gym use.
Not at that price, short warranty, expensive battery and weak rope. The Synapse CCR will do everything and more reliably.
@@mreverybody1150 That's a completely different product that will by no mean do everything this product does
Better hope the eccentric movement doesn’t glitch when doing those neck movements 😵😵
lol
However, we plan to implement:
- Extended maintenance care for replacement parts at low cost (unlimited cable replacement in certain period for example).
Free to the reviewer, too expensive for the followers.
I'd love to see two steel knobs to dial weight and modes. Looks amazing to implement
Wait... did I see they also want $500 for a single wall mounted upright?! Super cool tech but they seem like they gouge on every part possible. $350 for a travel case, $40 for a single cheap D handle... when keppi rips off the tech ill give it a shot
yeah shit is annoying
Haha..keppi get at it
That price and the warranty 😂
Maiak Go seems to have the same specs but 1/4 of the price.
Can you do a follow-up a year from this review? They just released some updates to Voltra that look interesting. It would be nice to get a sense of how things compare after a year's worth of updates.
As Flossy Carter would say, "the price is too god damn high"
I really want a pair to serve as a functional trainer in a small space but I need 4 things first:
1. Color options (black please)
2. Screen protection (maybe a flip cover)
3. Sync mode
4. Better warranty
5. (Bonus) get that price down
Agreed
On the price drop have you seen any for sale on 2nd hand markets ?
In my opinion, the Voltra, after just a few days, is multiple levels above, from a function, performance, usefulness and space saving perspective, than anything else I’ve ever used.
holy crud, this is long

Prices starting at 2.990 Euros in Europe, which is around 3.200 USD. Probably i have to wait for the copy from China 🤣

Shogun Flex is basically a rebranded Unitree Pump …. They are identical
Ive cut them with an exacto knife before, even with a fresh blade they are VERY hard to cut through
there is an early adopter on youtube with a frayed cable after 6 months.
@@turdrhinofiend frayed and ripped are very different though , fraying could be a problem but you could probably just take a lighter to bad spots on the cord
Thank you for your thorough review. Just ordered a Voltra I with platform, adjustable rack mount and bar mount.
Can you program drop sets? I.e. can the unit automatically change the resistance after a predetermined number of reps.
The price is obviously high but not without providing the value. Its better than a full cable machine in every way and comparable in price.
You seem like a primed sucker, bet you give in within a month or 2
Would be really nice if they also had modular motors so that you buy the outer shell and choose your motor.
Yes, Rep T 5000 and bench is a better option and save a bunch of money
It would make it far easier to move them up and down the rack as you something lighter like the mutant metal handles instead of the giant steel handle with attached weight horns.
this
You can adjust the cables starting position, that would protect it from the cable snapping back into it
Coop, you need to look into unitree's products, the pump and the upcoming max. 155 pounds of resistance.
This is a great idea!!
I rather have it plug into the wall instead of relying on a battery. One more thing to worry about charging...
I was reading a review from someone who says it does work plugged in while charging. But also read from someone else that it doesn’t. So…
My thoughts exactly. I don't want to have to recharge my gym equipment.
Just ordered based on your review. The feedback on the utility of one versus two sold me. 15-20 day delivery. The portability is going to be huge for me. This upgrades my work AND home gym. May find a way to incorporate this into RV travel as well.
Mount it to the front square tube landing gear of my fifth wheel.
How's it going? Thinking about buying this to make the ultimate "smallest gym with the highest quality pieces" that Coop alluded to.
That’s some good info.
More people should read this

200lbs max is enough?
Doing some gymnastics moves on the rings!!
Connecting it to the bar attachment, using the carabiner as a connector between the cable and a harness that taking some of your weight down
Like a “dream machine”
This one is a totally game changer in this world
P.S will also work amazing with the one arm pull up too, as you can lower down the resistance of the rope as you progress
The damper feature is interesting to me. Coop, is it possible to use the damper setting to create deadlift reps the are grind reps. Screw the mount into your deadlift platform, load up a barbell to say 85% your max, attach it to the bar and have it keep the bar speed slow and grindy.
This is a really unique stimulus that I don’t think anything else can do
Something like a flywheel KBox is quite close to what you're describing...
ARX does this... For $40,000 (last I checked) 😀
This with the isolator would be cool to see
How long is the cable? I have a cable machine in my basement but it's short since I only have 8' ceilings down there so the stack can't move very far because of the design of the machine. This basically completely negates room considerations which might be worth the money depending on how limited your space is.
A tip for a firmware update for the company, called "the infinity set". You set your starting weight, the number of reps per weight decrease, and the amount of weight decrease. For example, start at 100lbs and every 5 reps reduce 5lbs, then you just go until you basically pass out. Consider it like a continuous delay free drop set.
Well done Coop. Always enjoy your reviews. Love from middle earth New Zealand .
Do they not have a mode opposite to 'chains' or 'bands' - i.e. the resistance gets lighter the further away from the unit the handle is? That would take advantage of stretch-mediated hypertrophy much better
They just released a reverse band mode on Friday via firmware update. So cool. - Coop
@@GarageGymReviewsIso set 5sec - 30sec and then release would be great too.
For the issue of possibly breaking the glass, why not have a simple pulley system so your release is not directly in line with the unit?
10 year motor claim but 1 year warranty hmmm. At this price for equipment thats battery alone cost 400 to replace is kinda wild
7:30 They need to detect rope tension in the direct drive motor sys, they can use current monitoring, an encoder for speed tracking, or a dedicated rope tension sensor, each with its own advantages and complexity.
Would LOVE to see how a rep Athena/Ares set up compares to a 6 post rack with 2 of these on the front
The concept is great, how you can adjust the load on different phases of the exercise.
The price, warranty etc? yeah when anything is 'new/the only' it does have negatives as a consumer.
....nevertheless I want one, well two, you get the drift. ;)
I truley think this product or one similar will be the next essential versatile option same as a dumbell/barbell/cable(now replaced). There are just too many applications for this. One thing I hope they program would be the inverse of band tension, replicating what something like Prime equipment can accomplish.
Imagine if these had apps, bunch of presets like for dropsets (drops weight every 8reps or so) and sharable workout programs.
In the example I give, you could instantly go from a 200 lb deadlift to a 400 lb deadlift without adding plates. Great for warmups and programming.
If you attached this to a deadlift barbell with some plates and used it the way Coop was using the carbon-fiber bar, you wouldn’t have to worry about hitting the screen because the plates would keep that from happening.
These look cool, but the price needs to come down significantly.
i disagree, there are racks that cost way more and cant do anything on their own
@@outtrigger Yeah they're an extremely portable option and for the price per pound it's pretty similar to other options on the market

On what planet does 200 lb of steel weight plates cost over $2k?? I'll wait lol
Very cool that you can vary concentric and eccentric resistance. Also wild to see that thing shoot back. I like the carabiner aspect as I would be so annoyed to invest this much and then not be able to use attachments I already have
Try the inverse resistance band mode! Really cool for pull-ups
Good point on the no subscription.. my pelton just craped out. . I took the monitor off and now it's just a regular trainer.
It looks like the bench press trick can get you killed. 😅 If it pulls 200 pounds backwards and you get the bar on your throat, does it keep pulling?
The ability to set different weights for the concentric and eccentric is really cool.
A 12 month limited warranty that only seems to cover manufacturing defects (which I'm sure they will attempt to wiggle out of) is a GIANT red flag for something this expensive. That is an absolute deal breaker. Glad you called that out.
Few things to note:
I can see these products putting the band market like X3 and Harambe out of business soon.
This is the future of commercial gyms. I'm impressed.
Although this appears to be great, this isn't something that i would invest in for a few years. It's like Tonal, eventually others come out and the price becomes more reasonable.
Coop you need to do a review of that products and other future products for semi truck driver
This would be great in a small space home gym, especially in a condo where space is so limited and you really can't be dropping weights.
Can you make an review if introducing VR sets like quest 3 to your home gym?
Cool product but the cost is crazy. Don't think they will ever get enough market share to make the economics work to lower the cost. I'm a buyer somewhere around 600.
Nobody is even noticing Coop continually bringing the sleeper style: GW5000U SPOTTED.
Damn fine taste.
Review FORCE USA COMPACT LEG PRESS & HACK SQUAT and powertec leg sled
Super cool, but the lack of the ability to synchronize the two units to bench, use for rows, or pull downs is a big annoyance.
How about an XL version with 300 pounds of resistance?
In your "less-but-better" (minimalist) gym, would you include the Exxentric Kbox?
The only thing missing here is leveraging bluetooth on/off like the Tonal has. Feels like a remote on/off button would be just a killer app for it. it already has capabilities beyond Tonal. Kind of hate to hear the dual mode isn't ready for prime time yet.
@Garage Gym Reviews: When is the Shogun Flex review coming up? Dying to see that one! Maybe at least a first look as a reel or sth?
I also want to know how the battery holds up in lower temp. My gym is in an unfinished garage and it could get sub freezing at this time of year. I still use it to work out as long as it’s above 34 during the day.
Great review. I like the videos of the workouts showing some of the ideas for using it!
I would love to have a set of 2 of this in my future campervan. So I can get a real pump while living out of my van down the river.
Hey Coop, could you review tunturi equipment sometime?
This is the equivalent of electric powered cars to gas powered. Super great idea, but I'm sure lots of people will still love the idea of throwing plates around.
Love the production value man
They need to program a mode that's the reverse of the band mode, i.e. that gets lighter as you go through the concentric concentric, and then it would be extra cool if you could still overload the eccentric.
Pretty expensive but actually seeing it at the end i think you are onto something. If you have a bunch of plate loaded machines like a leg extension/curl, rhino, lat pull down, etc you could move it around your gym like a traveling weight stack. Thats something id pay money for but not $2k
Would have liked to see a demo of the attachment you like vs the slider.
