      Most Americans never stop to think how to pronounce names. As a European I am more mindful to make sure I pronounce names correctly. I just love how most Americans with Polish, German, Swedish or French names cant even properly pronounce their own names - so I am not surprised they dont care about other people's names :D

      Humm your right, kinda sort of. At least in the beginning, yeah they have to go out and find warriors to help defend their villiage from a gang. Where it differs is that they decided to go with the whole bit of him finding circus bugs and them pretending to be warriors. Thus instead of a noble stand off we get them trying to make a bird :P

    I’ve always really admired Antoine Fuqua as a director, mainly because he’s always taking stabs at different kinds of movies, most directors like Christopher Nolan or Tim Burton have very specific kinds of movies that they like to make, but Antoine Fuqua is always willing to try anything whether it’d be a more heavy, harsh drama like Southpaw or Training Day, a thriller like The Equalizer or just a simple fun action movie like Olympus Has Fallen, and even if some of them aren’t that good I still admire him for being willing to try it, most directors seem to have a comfort zone that they like to stay in but he doesn’t seem to have one, and I thought this movie was a total blast from start to finish, this was 1 of the most fun times I had in the theater in 2016

    I'm surprised you didn't talk about the score and the interesting story behind it. Just before his tragic death, James Horner wrote most of the score behind Fuqua's back before the film was even shot. They had become good friends while working together on Southpaw and the composer became inspired by the script to MS to write the score early on as a gift to the director. Simon Franglen, one of Horner's main assistants, completed the score for the final film during post production.

      PG-13 used to mean something. And was a very good, onscreen deaths that were brutal (blood and gore, not overly excessive but it was there). They've dumbed it down to satisfy the whiny parents. Now they can't even take a piss at adding a drop of blood when shooting a man through the chest several times.

    • @siqpuppie
      @siqpuppie 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** They limit themselves just for that particular age group. Thats bullshit. BTW, an age group that likes to laugh and talk during the movie, disrupting everyone around them.
      Kids can stick to PG until theyre 13/14 or so, no problem.

    Unpopular Opinion Ahead | I don't think it deserves an A-, this is way too high of a grade |
    Don't burn me at the stake but here are the 3 biggest problems I had with this movie.
    1. Dialogue/Script: Some of the lines and dialogue were very poorly written and at times they came off as very awkward, especially during the first half of the movie
    2. Characters: There is little or very very late character development in the film. When the 3rd act finally arrives and the action starts. I didn't feel the stakes nor the suspense were high enough. We get some of their back stories very late and by that time I've already lost interest on whether or not the characters will die. Although I do care for some more than others.
    3. Pacing: This movie just takes forever to start! The first half of the movie was very slow whether this was intentional or not, it's just missing something. They needed a couple more action set pieces in the first act to really jump start it. If the intention was to build suspense by using a slow pacing then by this I would say that it failed to accomplish this.
    What are your thoughts?

    I'm pretty surprised at your score for this. It's a fun movie sure, but to call it "good" is a big stretch. Enjoyable performances were marred by a rushed team building, medicre dialogue, and very very one dimensional characters, right down to an eye-rollingly daft ending and horribly CGed final shot. So an A- is... a bit extreme for such a meh movie. But to each their own I guess.

      I give it an A for knowing how to be the kind of movie it wanted to be. Maybe it's not this director's best work, but a mass audience can get a kick out of it. And for Western movies, isn't THAT what makes them popular?

    One big thing to note is this film kinda-sorta has the final film score by the late James Horner. A lot of the content is arranged and worked on by a number of other composers working together to pick up where he left off, but most of the themes are his. This makes the film very significant in a way, despite its popcorn flick-y nature. RIP Horner.
