Those are some KILLER ideas for photos in such a constrained place. Those things can really set a photographer apart... I’m not sure what I would have done for portraits in that back garden, but I’m pretty sure I would have struggled to come up with ideas. Thanks for sharing, John. Gold as always. And the "10 minutes portrait session" thing would be amazing!
I really might set up a 10 minute portrait session video. I think it would be great. Being able to pull photos out of a small space is highly important and something I've learned to deal with over my years of being a wedding photographer. More times than not you're put in a situation where it's not ideal and you still need to make great photos. That's what sets apart amazing photographers.
Great video! For some reason proper light seems to be a topic not often discussed in wedding photography even though it's paramount to great photography. So happy to see you walk us through the things you're looking at light wise!
Fabulous portrait location and posing suggestions with pictorial illustrations. It will definitely help the photographer to visualize potential at any venue. SJ
Hi… another great and informative video. I was wondering how you deal with exposure. I notice a lot of your images are light and airy. Do you expose for skin tones or the brides dress when shooting her please.
From what I can deduce in the video, one or two off-camera flashes will be great in a wide location. I'd like experiment with a couple to get the feel.
Thank you so much for another amazing video! Recently found your channel and picked up a used XT3 after hearing how amazing they are. I currently shoot on a Nikon D810 and the size difference is amazing and such a relief! I watched your wedding kit video and wanted to know your thoughts on R vs WR Fuji lenses for wedding photographers. Do you find the WR necessary, or is it overkill? Thanks so much again for all your time and effort is creating such helpful and educational content! -Isabella
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but given how you commonly use flash, how do you deal with requests not to ever use flash? Especially during ceremony or similar unique moments?
It’s very rare that I’m being asked to not use flash. The main time that ever happens is for the ceremony. Generally for that you’re using your fastest lenses and also pushing your ISO up a little higher. Dropping your shutter as reasonable possible.

It really is a great idea. I'll have to make sure to try and do that.

Such great tips!!
Glad you like them!
Thats The ______ Mill did a wedding there not to long ago.
That's awesome. I still haven't had a chance to shoot a wedding here yet but I've done a couple of styled shoots and such there myself.
Do you still use the xs20?

What is the off camera flash you equipment you use?
I'm just using speed lights. A pretty straight forward setup. I talk about it in detail in my flash course.
