@@dclay2343 he’s a bit different than the other big mans. Yao ming is heavy af thats why he’s injury prone and as time progresses, his feet gave out. Wemby is proportional for his height, thats why he’s able to move like a guard despite being that tall unlike other 7’0s
I love how patient he is on the defensive end. Doesn’t jump at pump fakes and puts his hands up rather than swipe and jump at everything. Very disciplined defender
The thing that impresses me most is that his body seems oddly proportional at 7'4, rather than stretched out like many seven-footers. The fluidity and agility of his movement really do border on guard-like, with his closest comp being a maxed-out MyPlayer.
I agree, it's just shocking watching him move so fluidly at that size and with that length. I've never seen anything close to someone like that. He's so coordinated.. It's crazy..
What's crazy is that at some point, he's going to be an automatic bucket when he get's the ball one on one near the baseline or at the elbow. I know everyone focuses on the 3-pt shot, but with his shooting touch, height, and reach, his mid-range and post game is going to be what makes him elite offensively.
Still crazy to look back at this guy from a year ago. His off ball shoot is way better than his off catch shoot in his first season, that's pretty weird.
Spurs will definitely help the kid with his shot selection and make him an even better defender and not just rim protection. Dude can win roy and dpoy in same season imo
He reminds me of Dirk offensively, remember that he trained with Nowitzki's personnal coach. So he learned a things or two from him and his shooting mechanics look very similar. Defensively it's safe to say Rudy Gobert, they've also trained together and he can do almost all of the things that Rudy can do and some others things better than Rudy. Him and his coach when he was playing for ASVEL talked about making him guard ball handlers for the duration of games, if there's guys they wouldn't know how to stop they would put Wemby on him. That didn't happen because of the nature of that particular season, but well a smart coach would at least experiment with that in the NBA... We've seen Pop putting Sochan on pointguards, that could very well be the case with Victor too, when Curry, Lillard, KD or Doncic put up 20 points in a quarter for exemple and that even Sochan can't stop them. If Wemby's personnal team end up working well with the Spurs coaching and development staff, the Spurs as a whole are going to become so much better and way more efficient. Like we're talking about visionnary methods of training, fitness, rest etc. Something on LeBron's equipment level but for the entire team, because that's what Victor is about. He wants to develop the entire franchise, all the facilities etc. If the Spurs make the financial investments they will be on the cutting edge of sports innovations, because they're bringing those kind of people in and that kind of player. Victor wants to improve things. And the leader that he is is underrated, when you see everything that his team went through during the season, he pulled them together and brought them to the quarter finals, they might win the Pro A championship at this point.
To me the biggest concern besides injuries is 1) whether he wants to be AD or KP on offense and 2) if he picks the later can he develop into a plus shooter. He should be an elite defender from day 1 so the ceiling is just a matter of shot diet, skill development and strength. He'll be an elite lob threat but if teams can just switch or put a wing on him like they do KP or Rudy and not care about his 1 ppp on post ups that really changes the impact. He has to be able to punish switches like AD.
Say it again. He's the best prospect in any sport ever outside of like Joe Thomas. Defensively alone he's elite and may win you 5 games a season by itself. He's an unparalleled prospect in Basketball history.
As a non-American (no home city bias), I hope the Spurs get him too! Great organisation, great coach, great history with French players, great utilising big men, etc, etc. If my adopted team (Thunder) don't get Wemby, I hope he goes to you guys!

his play finishing might take a hit in the nba cus he's too used to the leaner rules of goaltending other than that his skillsets will flourish and him playing in that league helps as he'll have even more space to operate with the 3 sec def rule much more like giannis said
defensively will also be an issue as he'll be playing amongst much more skilled and stronger players and a way to counterattack his length and rim protection is when guys draw him out the perimeter or beat him off the dribble and finish strong at the rim but that can be said for any 7ft rim protectors in the league rn
