Pink Floyd - " Run Like Hell " The Wall Live Earls court 1980

  • The concert tour was Pink Floyd's last with the Waters-Gilmour-Wright-Mason line-up (albeit with Wright as a salaried musician rather than a full member, having been fired during the sessions for the album), as bassist Roger Waters left the group following a court battle between him and the band
    The Wall Tour was relatively small compared to previous tours for a major release, with only 31 shows in total.

      I would argue, it was 'because' of their differences, rather than 'despite'. Certainly late stage of this era I think it fired them up. The albums immediately after Roger left lacked some of that anger and fire.

    I have always had admiration for Roger Waters voice during this time period as it had a harrowing vibe to it. He was criticized sometimes for not being able to sing well but I find it the opposite and believe his voice to be underrated.

      I was at same concert. The Wall concert was held at Nassau Colosseum on February 28, 1980. When I arrived in the parking lot people offered me $200 for my ticket. I refused and I was glad that I did because it was the most amazing 2 1/2 hour concert. I wish I kept the original "The Wall" album, concert program, and t-shirt but I tossed them out. I could probably get good money selling it online. I will never forget leaving the colosseum that night. It snowed and one of the fans had his car totaled in the parking lot. It was a long slippery drive back to NJ.

    They were all great! Waters wrote most of their hit lyrics, and had the front man cockiness, with a unique voice! Without him, pink Floyd wouldn't have had the hits! Gilmore made the lyrics Hits with his master guitar skills and talent to compose the songs! Without him, pink Floyd wouldn't have had the Hits! They both continued singing these hits, but couldn't create new material that compared to this level! There was definitely a magic between the two that worked musically, that was lost because of their Ego's; but it was also the reason they were both Legends!

    • @dannomusic47
      @dannomusic47 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Roger’s and David’s egos aren’t at all equatable. It’s always been painfully obvious which one of them is a narcissist and which one isn’t. Gilmour is a classic English gentleman and very even-tempered.
      The true shame is in how partnerships like that in order to produce magic often relies on distinctly opposing personalities.
      Much like Lennon and McCartney.
      And it can only last so long before it finally takes the piss out of both parties.

    it still pains me to this day when Roger left, just wasn't the same afterwards, Rog used to scare the audience or at least make us think while we was tripping.. Gilmour's Floyd was too nice.

    • @samcarroll6210
      @samcarroll6210 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      JP Gilmour was too safe with Floyd, Roger was the genius concept creator

    • @officergregorystevens5765
      @officergregorystevens5765 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Yep.. Roger's all 'Run Like Hell' and Gilmour is more "breathe.. breathe in the air.." etc.. very different world views they have.. without the cynical, deviant, manipulative edge of Roger, they're just not the same and seemed like a corny cover band..
      David is the musician's guitarist.. he actually loves to play as he's prescribed to play, and not an enjoyer of writing a lot on his own. Kind of like Tommy Byrnes of billy joel's band who is really very very similar in style to David , if not technically better believe it or not... but without Billy and his band he'd not really have any direction.. David's like the chef who adds alot of different and unique spices to the soup, so to speak. Sorry best analogy I can come up with in 2 seconds lol.

    Waters left the band before the court battle. The court battle was over who held the rights to use the band name cos he got pissed off theat the band just carried on without him. Waters of course meant that he was Pink Floyd.

    • @SluffAdlin
      @SluffAdlin 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      interestingly enough Waters admits he was wrong in doing that, for the same reasons why some people believe Pink Floyd cease to exist after Syd Barrett's departure. Pink Floyd is/was never about anyone person. 'The Endless River" is the latest bashing among Floyd albums, to which I respond; it was never suppose to be an album, it was left overs. The only reason Gilmour decided to put it out was to remind people that Rick (and Nick) had just as much to do with Pink Floyd as Waters and Gilmour did. Secondly 'Ummagumma' (to which Floyd fans like myself love) is pretty much the same thing as 'The Endless River' just not as.......out there.
