People always say 'radiohead is dead.' but honestly, put a song like this in the discography of any other band, and people would be in awe of them. 'radiohead is dead' directly translates to: 'radiohead has become something we're not used to.'
TKOL is by far my favorite era of Radiohead. They took the songs they'd play in tour and gave them a totally different tone and feel. Like how this song started. Who would of thought it would end up like this?
yup, seems like he's gotten over his whole ''uuggh touring sucks everything sucks i wanna die'' thing that started around the middle-late 90s. he seems surprisingly extroverted nowadays.
i love everything they do. Never to repeat, never to copy, never to disappoint, always to surprise, always introduce new, too bad more people cant see what i have discovered in them through hearing and feel the same way. In a nutshell their music amplifies my senses!
I picture Thom smiling the whole time he's singing this and dancing like he does in lotus flower while on a mountain with the most beautiful landscape behind him, and it is a beautiful sight inside my head.
Hadn't seen Radiohead since 2003 HTTT tour. Still a spectacular performing band, now with two drummers to replicate all the complex beats of King of Limbs and In Rainbows. Tonight performed Supercollider and two other new sides (Identakit was the killer) tonight at Verizon Center in DC. Very nice, surprisingly, straightforwardly old-fashioned (for Radiohead) number, performed with brio.
Muse is a pop-rock to prog-rock band who does what they do well: Making catchy rock tunes that kick ass Radiohead can make deep, emotional songs, dance songs or rock songs, and everything in-between, they are very different. I enjoy both of them.
This song is about an accident on a city street. When you die your brain fires off all of its neurons rapidly within the last split seconds of your life in a last ditch effort to restart the body. This song is about those last split seconds of your life. It is very descriptive based on scientific and medical reports of what people have said in the last few seconds of a traumatic death. Neurons fire gathering everything your mind has experienced within its lifetime and puts all of your life shadows back into the boxes (or away) as you die. In this song that is what happens, and the person/s do not survive as the angels look over the balcony.

To anyone wondering, Thom Yorke has never confirmed what the song means. The best interpretation is it's about the supercollider - a high energy particle accelerator that causes beams of particles to clash with one another. Scientists hope to use colliders as means to answer many open ended questions in physics and lead to a better understanding of our universe. Guys stop arguing! There is no need to even mention Muse. If you are a Radiohead fan that likes Muse, you are welcome here. Same goes for Radiohead fans that dislike Muse. The only people that shouldn't be here are Muse fans that dislike Radiohead. This is not some forum where you come to discuss your musical tastes, this is a Radiohead video.
I don't think this band is mediocre at all. Some (and very few) of their selections are a little lackluster, but as a whole, this is practically the best modern band out there, if not the best, even though they're not really new, they keep reinventing themselves. That is a smart thing to do, and they always deliver. Nothing weak or dull about ol Radiohead!!
Most bands, after a certain number of years making music, plateau their sound or get worse and end up fading away. Radiohead is like a black hole, absorbing more sound and growing stronger with every passing year.
Radiohead's consistency is amazing. Most other bands don't have that. Even if you're talking about all time greats such as Floyd or Zeppelin. I will admit, the only time I was slightly underwhelmed by one of their albums was The King of Limbs but even that isn't a "bad" album. It just felt incomplete after 4 years.
being a huge radiohead fan, i hate to admit it, but some of the comments are absolutely correct on here. when each of their albums have been released, at first I really don't like the album, then it becomes my favorite for a period of time, then it gets archived in with all of their other greatness. KOL is no different (except maybe the length of the album). right now, it is the only radiohead album I want to listen to, but I think I will always have Kid A at the top.
Wow, just wow. I am baffled by how genius these guys get. Truly an original and outstanding band. You won't find electronic rock better than Radiohead's because I'm pretty sure they invented the genre.
+J T Based on the lyrics, I'd have to go with the Large Hadron Collider at CERN: On the high road I will take you higher Till the world explodes Just like a super collider
Not for everyone. People listen to music for different reasons. To connect to it on an emotional level, wanting catchy sounds or beats, wanting something different, wanting a good singer (or guitarist, drummer, etc.), or wanting to be impressed by the complexity. Everyone has different styles of sounds in music they like as well. Maybe muse fits someone, why should you tell them they suck? It's your opinion, it doesn't matter. Radiohead is so good cause they fit so many categories of good music.
It's perfect. It's its own entity. It's got the uplifting energy of The Bends, the rawness of Ok Computer, the melacholia and disgression of Kid A, the sadness and hope of In Rainbows. It's so bright. It's freedom.
That's what happened to me as well. After a while you'll be wanting to listen to other stuff as well. I got to the point where I couldn't even appreciate "simple" music. It took me about 1 - 1.5 years to get past that point and after that I started looking for other music again. For another 2 years I wasn't into radiohead THAT much (still liked it very much), but I started appreciating other stuff again (luckily). Now I find myself listening to Radiohead and the other music as well.
Dick Durstin Although that might be so, Thom wasn't satisfied with the two songs on this single. TKOL was to be one cohesive, short album as well, and this doesn't fit in very well. 7 minutes is a bit long for a short album x3
Dick Durstin Honestly, The King of Limbs was a huge disappointment to me. It's not that the album was BAD, per se, but it was entirely immemorable and, frankly, it doesn't sound like Radiohead anymore. It sounds exactly like The Eraser in every way. This is coming from a devoted fan who was introduced to RH as a very young child. I LOVE Radiohead, but I can't stand this dissonant crap. If I wanted to listen to IDM, I wouldn't be listening to Radiohead.
I don't like all the hate on TKOL. The only problem i have with that album is its main single, Lotus Flower. And not that the song is bad, i love it, but it completely doesnt fit in. You have the crazy/(dare i say)feral beginning, then you have the soft/depressing/beautiful ending, and then lotus flower just sits there. That is possibly a flaw of TKOL, besides it being too short. But the comments about Bloom, Feral, Little by Little, man has anyone even listened to little by little??? honestly one of their best songs to date, THAT EPIC BASS
I'm surprised you're not complaining about Separator. If there's one song that to me stands out as unfitting within the rest of the album, it's Separator. Not necessarily because its style is too different from the other songs, but rather because I don't think it belongs as the album closer. Now, I've gotten used to it being the closing track, and I see now that it is a pretty good end song. But after Give up the Ghost...? Give Up the Ghost is a really nice song that could've ended The King of Limbs on as beautiful a note as almost every other Radiohead album, but instead the album keeps going afterwards.
I always think of a cool ass caterpillar undulating its way along the earth towards the end of the song. Listen for the wormy bass line that comes in. It's great. Def happens somewhere around the 5:00
After being slightly disappointed by how flat The King of Limbs sounded, this, The Daily Mail, Staircase and The Butcher, were much needed. 4 Beautiful songs.
Where is your OKC? Where is your fucking OKC you twisted fuck? I'm just kidding. Everybody has their own likes. I kinda like all their albums except Pablo Honey.
I don't know...so far I'm enjoying the actual album more, but I've also only listened to these extra songs once each, so my opinions are bound to change.
@Climbing Up The Sounds I can never rate Radiohead albums, the ranking always changes depending on how I feel. My top ones are definitely in rainbows, hail to the thief, amnesiac and kid A though. If TKOL had these 4 B-sides it would be up there too
Anyone know about the travel show Globe Trekker (neé Lonely Planet)? Well it had a super triumphant theme song, one of my absolute favorites! This song sounds so much like it!! Has the same chords, albeit in a different. Anyway! I tried fusing the two on my SoundCloud, it's a simple 4-minute acoustic guitar cover recorded on the phone. It was super fun to figure out and play. :)
TØMAS he’s referring to the cd version of Motion Picture Soundtrack, whereas on a digital copy, Motion Picture Soundtrack and Untitled are separate songs.
When I was 14 years old I had panic attacks on a daily basis. This song never helped me but hey, it's a good song.

I listened to this song on repeat while studying for exams. It helped.
This song feels like the most magnificent thing is about to happen.
Most underated song of all time. For ever…
I don't think this band is mediocre at all. Some (and very few) of their selections are a little lackluster, but as a whole, this is practically the best modern band out there, if not the best, even though they're not really new, they keep reinventing themselves. That is a smart thing to do, and they always deliver. Nothing weak or dull about ol Radiohead!!
i'm about 30 songs into radiohead and i havent seem to have found one song that isnt just literally amazing
Most bands, after a certain number of years making music, plateau their sound or get worse and end up fading away. Radiohead is like a black hole, absorbing more sound and growing stronger with every passing year.
One of the best Radiohead song I've discovered yet. I thought I had heard em' all!.
"I put the shadows back into the boxes
I see angels hanging over the balcony..."
💛
being a huge radiohead fan, i hate to admit it, but some of the comments are absolutely correct on here. when each of their albums have been released, at first I really don't like the album, then it becomes my favorite for a period of time, then it gets archived in with all of their other greatness.
I love stumbling upon songs like this. Makes the day just that much better.
So I said, "Super-collider? I just met her!"... And then they built the super collider.
They're the only thing I've been listening to for well over 2 months... I hear you man.
For those who are not aware, SuperCollider is a language that allows you to program audio synthesis. It's pretty cool, and pretty difficult too U.U
I assumed it was named after the Hadron supercollider in Switzerland that they did those experiments on.
***** Oh, I didn't think about that! It's possible too :)
+J T Me too
+J T it is
+J T Based on the lyrics, I'd have to go with the Large Hadron Collider at CERN:
On the high road
I will take you higher
Till the world explodes
Just like a super collider
Not for everyone. People listen to music for different reasons. To connect to it on an emotional level, wanting catchy sounds or beats, wanting something different, wanting a good singer (or guitarist, drummer, etc.), or wanting to be impressed by the complexity. Everyone has different styles of sounds in music they like as well. Maybe muse fits someone, why should you tell them they suck? It's your opinion, it doesn't matter. Radiohead is so good cause they fit so many categories of good music.
I will always love this song...
It's perfect. It's its own entity. It's got the uplifting energy of The Bends, the rawness of Ok Computer, the melacholia and disgression of Kid A, the sadness and hope of In Rainbows. It's so bright. It's freedom.
This is literally the greatest song, period.
Absolutely Amazing!
Perfect Muse v Radiohead comment!
They can't be compared and are both amazing in their OWN way.
They both make my life a lot more bearable.
Love them.
heaven is you thom
I have been a Radiohead fan since all get out, and I am today, just learning of this and Butcher. Crazy good stuff right here.
One of their best songs, agreed?
Agreed.
Agreed. and since this is radiohead, one of THE best songs!
The Eraser was great though. TKOL falls flat on the first half, IMO.
Found this song by accident while going through Radiohead's discography. If only this song was on King Of Limbs as a closer.
daaayyum! best band hands down. radiohead themselves might even disagree but they'd be wrong!
3:58 and 4:19 it comes back optimistic
I don't like all the hate on TKOL. The only problem i have with that album is its main single, Lotus Flower. And not that the song is bad, i love it, but it completely doesnt fit in. You have the crazy/(dare i say)feral beginning, then you have the soft/depressing/beautiful ending, and then lotus flower just sits there. That is possibly a flaw of TKOL, besides it being too short. But the comments about Bloom, Feral, Little by Little, man has anyone even listened to little by little??? honestly one of their best songs to date, THAT EPIC BASS
dont forget the awesome drum beat
lotus flower fits perfectly if you view the album as a journey to shed the ego
Bloom especially is a brilliant song.
Hhhhmmmmm. Maybe they should have started the album with "Lotus Flower"?
They played this live last night at The Comcast Center (Mansfield, MA). My mind was BLOWN.
i put the shadows back into the boxes
I always think of a cool ass caterpillar undulating its way along the earth towards the end of the song. Listen for the wormy bass line that comes in. It's great. Def happens somewhere around the 5:00
This gives me Donkey Kong soundtrack vibes, same with Backdrifts, that's very nice.
This was one of the highlights at the Vector Arena, Auckland, New Zealand concert last night!
We are the all-seeing all dancing crap of the universe.
If you're referring to the Fight Club quote it's all singing, all dancing.
His name was Jonny Greenwood. His name was Jonny Greenwood. His name was Jonny Greenwood.
being calm/ relaxing is not the same thing as boredom
there is only one type of boredom
After being slightly disappointed by how flat The King of Limbs sounded, this, The Daily Mail, Staircase and The Butcher, were much needed. 4 Beautiful songs.
LOVE TKOL
+ These are my twisted words
Where is your OKC? Where is your fucking OKC you twisted fuck? I'm just kidding. Everybody has their own likes. I kinda like all their albums except Pablo Honey.
I don't know...so far I'm enjoying the actual album more, but I've also only listened to these extra songs once each, so my opinions are bound to change.
@Climbing Up The Sounds I can never rate Radiohead albums, the ranking always changes depending on how I feel. My top ones are definitely in rainbows, hail to the thief, amnesiac and kid A though. If TKOL had these 4 B-sides it would be up there too
i am stunned by how many layers the new Radiohead songs have, it's like every time i listen to them, i notice different things.
Is Schrodinger's litter box both fresh and soiled simultaneously?
I’m late in life . Where has this song been hiding !!!!!!! Gotta get my head out of this sand
GRACIAS POR ESTO!
Why does everyone have to argue about Radiohead, Coldplay, and Muse..? They all have their own styles and they're all awesome.
Another great b-side that should be released on a b-sides c.d.
This track is surreal, might be one of my favorite songs of all time
Anyone know about the travel show Globe Trekker (neé Lonely Planet)? Well it had a super triumphant theme song, one of my absolute favorites! This song sounds so much like it!! Has the same chords, albeit in a different.
Anyway! I tried fusing the two on my SoundCloud, it's a simple 4-minute acoustic guitar cover recorded on the phone. It was super fun to figure out and play. :)
Oh my god! They played it yesterday in Berlin and I was so flashed. I didn't know, that there is a recording of it! I'm so happy.
Radiohead always take me to a place of non linear time 👍🏻❤🐱♏♌☯️🌌🏴
I've been listening to you guys for decades...listening to you guys develop into your reality over the years has been a pleasure... thank you.
Radiohead's longest song
Yes it's equal in length to Motion picture soundtrack. But most of that is silence, So yes, Supercollider is RAdioheads longest song
motion picture soundtrack is 4 minutes long not 7
TØMAS he’s referring to the cd version of Motion Picture Soundtrack, whereas on a digital copy, Motion Picture Soundtrack and Untitled are separate songs.
I think that the early version of "Paranoid Android" is a bit longer. I can't remember.
was originally 15 minutes but never was recorded as such
there is always one logical person that rises above the ashes or ignorance and stupidity in these things, you are it good sir
