People really need to stop blaming coaches ! I’ve never seen as much coach changes as ever with this new generation. Serena Williams has only ever had 2 major coaches, as with Venus Williams (Venus maybe more but those were hitting partners). I don’t think running from one coach to another is going to solve the problem. Sometimes “YOU” might just be the problem. Ask Sakarri and Raducanu or even Rune how their experience has been.

Well that's how it works in any sport. In NFL NBA NHL they fire the coach and bring in someone new and keep trying. But those are team sports where team coordination and strategy matters so coach has more impact. Tennis is an individual sport so I'm not sure if coach makes that much of a difference. They can only give pointers but the execution is up to the player.

Venus and Serena brought people on as consultants . They spent off time at various academies, taking lessons from other coaches, in off seasons. Rennae Stubbs, Bolliteri were the only ones that we knew of but Richard also consulted with people as well.

Naomi is a great player but needs to add more variety. Just like Sabalenka, in the early years was just one dimensional. Now Sabalenka is unrecgonisable to former years with alot of variety. Naomi needs to add a slice to change up the pace now and again. With her powerful forehand she needs to use that to pick the spots down the line or cross court and sneak into net now and again to take a volley. Ive watched her game very closely and in my opinion, she gets tired if the point goes on too long and she doesn't dictate from the begining. Setting up the point at least once a game, to execute a volley would save her alot of energy, and over the course of a match hold onto that strength she needs to win a match

I agree, the Gauff coach change is overdue. When I look at her play I see Andy Roddick and he only won 1 grand slam under Brad Gilbert (2003) US Open. And I know Coco does Not want to end up like that. However, Brad Gilbert is a good coach he just may not be right for Coco at this time. Andre Agassi won 6 grand slams wit him. I think Coco needs to change her game a little; come to the net more like Andre did. That baseline slugging it out is not working. Gauff is an awesome player she just needs the right coach.
Take Jennifer Capriati when she got her act together and the right coach you couldn’t do nothing with her. She won 3 grand slams and beat Graf to win the gold medal in ‘92 Olympics. And Graf was not an easy opponent. Coco needs to weed out the noise and get better focus if she wants to win another grand slam.

Doesn't matter the coach, while on the court. Players really have to figure out how to win, when the game isn't working beautifully. Especially when you don't have weapons. I wish Coco the best going forward. Sounds like a mental and psychological concern. Gilbert is rough around the edges and you can't take anything personal. I thought he was a great fit, but I am not Coco. Time will tell. And with Naomi, I don't have any immediate thoughts. I was never a fan of Mouratogolou. But if it works for her, carry on!! 2025 Season will be very interesting indeed.

Nice to hear you speak more naturally rather than ripping through your script as fast as you can. Advice...either get a teleprompter so shots of you speaking on camera don't show you constantly sneaking looks at your script, or just stay off camera while speaking, unless what you're saying on camera can be said without obviously sneaking looks away from eye contact with your audience to read the script. And staying relaxed is good. Jamming your words together like you're rushing to get finished is awkward and off putting. Christian is knowledgeable. A more relaxed Christian is more confident and much easier to listen to. Thanks for filling a tennis news void.

I don’t think Brad was a good fit for the team. He is clearly a great coach but the coaching relationship needs to have great chemistry and I believe that’s the challenge. All the players talk about the importance of having the right people around them. Coco is very coachable as is evident from her run last year. I just believe there were issues among the coaching staff that did not help Coco as she seems to internalize things. If things were good between her & BG I don’t think she would’ve continue to add people to her team. Btw, JC is her other coach who she brought on ahead of Roland Garros; again signaling that maybe there was an issue between her & BG. She’s always said he’s knowledgeable I just don’t think he was the right fit. Just take a look at the people who left her team once he got involved…do I think she will now bounce back?! That remains to be seen but having the right people around you can definitely help with the mentality both on and off court.

Stupid haters will call that a failure because they were both runner up trophys 🙄
Coco needs a coach who will give her confidence. She is an outstanding player, but the pressure of being great only multiplies with the more success you attain.
Rennae Stubbs would be a good addition to Coco's team, but she also needs a psychologist to help her deal with the people who want to say she has a problem with her forehand - these people are quiet when she wins a 40 rally game, but lo and behold she misses a forehand and yep she has a problem, not withstanding the fact that every singles player that loses a match, which is 99% of players, loses it because they missed a forehand 💡

Gilbert isn’t really the problem. Coco herself has to be willing to fix the weaknesses in her game. She also likes to figure things out herself in her matches and doesn’t really want to listen when things are going wrong. Which then leads to her frustrations. And it’s time for her to focus more on singles.
On the other hand, Osaka needs to start playing doubles so she can develop a net game. She won’t win just playing at the baseline.

Doubles is why she won the US Open last year. This year 19 double faults and 54 unforced errors in a match she still had a chance to win.
Naomi Osaka needs a coach like Patrick someone who will teach her how to seal the deal for sets and matches. Perhaps he will convince her to play doubles to improve her net game. Naomi is playing good tennis but lacks the skill and confidence to close matches.
I watched her hit 54 winners including 16 Aces in just 3 sets against the No. 1 player in the world who was playing at a high level hitting 37 winners herself. Although Naomi served for the match at 5-2 she lost the game and match going away! Losing 5 straight games.

What we are forgetting players are employers and coaches employees. I believe it who the player connects with mentally at that level of the game. Osaka has won four glams if she doesn’t know who to play now she never will. She was out 18 month and had a baby. Her body has to adjust for that. And mental part of being world class athlete. Everybody just expecting her pick up where she left off isn’t realistic for herself or fans. You can get PTA coach and get results. It’s about the players being recipient. Like Gruff 19 double faults. That is mental to me. In junior tennis you learn get the second in and at least make them hit a winner. I don’t she her lose that bad for a comeback. EVERY match this year, her serve let her down. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Brad Gilbert is a great Coach, but you have to LISTEN and change. Aryna Sabalenka had a TERRIBLE SERVE. She CHANGED how she was serving, and now she’s winning. Coco’s errors come from her knowing she can’t depend on her serve. It’s fixable, but she will need to relearn how to serve and not fall into bad habits when she is stressed.

In my humble view, Coco now plays like Wozniacki 2.0, so there are no weapons; she could be ok with tennis and be a top 15 for the next 10 years. She needs a technician coach to continue her progress. Finally, could somebody fix the forehand and go back to her 2 heavy kick serves and no more double faults. I do not think she will ever have a serve that will bail her out. Osaka is hitting great, but the field is more challenging, post and thanks to Serena the WTA players are learning how to redirect power with smaller strokes. The days that Osaka can just run over players are over, and she needs to learn how to earn points by outsmarting her opponents, something is not easy for her.

Coco's problem is not completely Gilbert. I think the criticisms of Gilbert were well placed, however, even with a better Serve and Forehand Gauff will still lose a lot of matches. Why? Her footwork and court position is too defensive and she doesn't hit on the rise enough and aggressively. And, all of this has to do with her emotional method of playing tennis. She needs to take up something to handle managing her emotions. Maybe Buddism? Maybe Karate or Aikido? Something to help her to mentally attack moments of fear and cut through them. Thus, I expect problems from this Brad Gilbert separation because he is great at mental toughness which is at the core of Coco's issues. These hitting issues are problems but without the mental, she is not going to win. She must be calmer when she plays to pay attention and have rally discipline.
