How to maximise the benefits of reading

  • There were times when reading on your own in silence was considered terribly strange. One of the reasons was because in ancient times
reading was something people did out loud with the purpose of sharing those written words to either entertain, educate or bond with others.
But it seems that even when someone was by themselves they would still be reading in a muffled voice rather than silently. Why is that and why did we stop doing it? What our ancestors might not have been aware of at the time was that all of that verbal reading offered some extra benefits.
So let’s have a look at what benefits reading aloud might bring to us and also touch on how reading Shakespeare can actually excite our brain!
We will touch on the work of Psychologists at the University of Waterloo in Canada, Researchers at the University of Liverpool and University College London.
