Very thorough and comprehensive - thanks for advising about how to set up new phone also, as many other Smart Switch videos don't pre-advise you on this.
Thanks man. But does this work for passwords in previous apps? Where you don't have to put your emails and passwords for previous apps on your new phone
It may for some but it’s best to assume that they won’t be transferred as this is more likely. Some apps may also require extra authentication as they will detect a new device being used (confirm via email/text etc)
Nice 👍🏻 Is there a difference between doing a SWITCH (Phone to Phone) & Cloud / External Storage Backup (Formating & installing setup again) When we setup our phone settings, GoodLock settings, Developer Option settings, etc Will they all transfer to new phone or ...... there will be a difference between both ways....
Why does it keep asking for WiFi to transfer? It won't connect with my old phone hotspot , and I thought this used WiFi direct anyways? Connects, does a quick transfer before asking to transfer all data, etc....but when I select everything, it then asks for a WiFi connection? I have no WiFi network, just hotspot which is on my phone I want to transfer from.
Well, as usual when it comes to dealing with mobile phones, it's never as easy as it looks in the TH-cam tutorials. I've just had a hell of a lot of problems transferring from an old Samsung S8, over to the new S23. Everything starts well.... and then the old (pain in the ass) password requirements starts coming up. Of course, my wife has no idea about ANY passwords, so the whole thing comes to a grinding halt. After this, I played it by ear and managed to download data, but I don't know whether it is ALL the data.
I want to know do you have to move the sim before switching the phone?? Or can I do it after the transfer? Or is there any risk if losing the data from my new phone if I do that??
If the touchscreen works you could connect the device to a TV or monitor to see it, if not it might be best to manually transfer the data via a PC instead
Hi, just a clarification. I need to switch data from my old S10 to the new S24 using Smart Switch. I mounted a memory card on the old S10. How can I transfer the data stored on the memory card to the new S24 considering that there is no memory card slot on the S24? Does Smart Switch include this possibility? You mentioned this possibility at the beginning of the video, but I didn't understand if the data on the SD card will be copied to the internal memory of the new device or not. Thanks and sorry if I ask you something you've already talked about.
It should be able to if that option appears as a category. However as nothing is deleted, you can always transfer this data at any time by copying the files to a PC and then to the new phone.
Thank you so much for this video. I have a question; I use Samsung S9+ with 128GB internal memory and a sd card storage 32GB, and would like to transfer data to my new Samsung A34 with 128GB internal memory and a sd card storage 128GB. Now, while transferring the data from my old phone to new phone, would the sd card storage 32GB data be transferred to the internal memory of my new phone or the sd card storage 128GB? I am really confused here, help would be appreciated.
I wouldn’t worry about it as you can always transfer that data after using smart switch, but you can transfer data from the SD card, it’s explained here by Samsung: www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00087143/ However, with it being a new SD card I’m not 100% certain on where it would move the data to for the transfer. I’d personally say it would be easier to transfer the data from SD card to SD card manually using a PC or laptop if you can.
@@TropicalTech That was quick! I have already created a backup of my current 32GB sd card storage in my laptop. So, what I am going to do is remove the sd card storages from both devices, transfer the data from my old phone to new phone then insert my new 128GB sd card storage in my old phone, transfer the data from my laptop to it and finally insert it to my new phone. Would it be the correct process?
How long would it take to do the transfer? I'm assuming it varies from user to user depending on what they have on their phone but for most people is it a matter of minutes or hours?
Yes it depends on the amount of data required and the WiFi speed (if you choose wireless transfer). If you transfer with the cable it would probably take 10-15 minutes max. If you use WiFi it could be a bit longer, but if you are setting up the new phone you can continue with some of the setup.
@@TropicalTech thanks that's very helpful. I've got a note 9 that I've had for 5 years, I've ordered a galaxy A54 5g so this video is useful. How do you get smart switch on the new phone? Do you have to activate the phone first? If that is the case and you have multiple lines, how will that affect others on the network if not doing all at once??

I’m not sure on notes unfortunately, they won’t be deleted on the old device so you could check after the transfer and then move them another way if they haven’t been transferred with Smart Switch

I have a Samsung A50, and just bought the A54. Both are straight talk. Can I just put the sim card from my A50 into the A54? That way I keep my current phone number and billing?
when using Smart Switch does your current phone number get transferred to the new phone as well with everything else?? And I don't use the NEW sim card from the New phone, cause I will transfer the sim from old to new, correct??
SIM cards need to be transferred separately and your number will be different on a new sim, so you’d also need to transfer the number if you want to keep it the same
Some people are complaining that media in SD card is messed up (dates overwritten) when migrated to new phone (non SD card and internal memory only). Is this something you've experienced as well?
It’s possible, I’d personally recommend transferring the SD card manually if the new device has a slot. I’d then probably transfer using a PC for images and videos
This is all new to me! I’m moving from very old phone+old sim to new phone+new sim provider. At what stage do I ask old provider about keeping old number please?
Here in the UK, you request a code from your current (old) provider, and then give this code to your new provider. I'm not sure if this process is the same in every country (it should be similar). You can request this code before you transfer if you wanted to, and then once the new provider has the code to port the number, this can take between a few hours and a few days, until which your new phone will be using the new number before your old one is moved.
If i do this method after setting up my new phone . Would i be able to factory reset my old phone without affecting the smart switch done to the new phone ?
Once the new phone is set up, I’d first check that everything has been transferred correctly. If it had and you then factory reset the old device, nothing should change
I’ve never used notes so unfortunately I’m not sure, but they won’t be deleted on the old device so if they don’t transfer you may be able to do it manually
does it also automatically logs in to apps? for ex- i have Prime Video subscription in my old phone but i have forgotten my password of the amazon acc, so will the prime video/amazon be logged in automatically without entering password in new phone?
@@ldw8280 It doesn't get deleted, just not transferred. Passwords synced to your Google account/in a password manager app should be accessible though which is what I was meaning by some.

No, at least one (the new phone) has to be a Samsung Galaxy Device. This Google support page should have more info on your options: support.google.com/android/answer/6193424?hl=en-GB
@imLOOPY-c4t Emails should be stored within the app online, and contacts probably won’t be transferred, only photos and videos will be if using a cable via a PC

@@brettclark3885 I'm not sure what you mean, only cellular functions will not work when there is no sim in the phone. Most apps will be stored on the device itself and will be transferred. If you have apps and files on a micro SD card (separate card to the SIM), then you don't necessarily need to transfer these as you can just move the SD card at any time afterwards.
@@brettclark3885the sim card is just your phone number basically the apps stay on the phone you transfer them to the new phone with all the files with smart switch
Does the touchscreen element work? If so you could connect it to a TV or monitor to view the screen. If not, you may be best transferring data to a PC via cable.
Save your pictures from your text messages on your old phone to your gallery on the old phone. Then you can transfer them to your new phone, but they will not be in WhatsApp messages, only in your gallery.
Got it through Smartfind Unlock. There is a small hint to unlock the screen of the old phone via the PC which allows you to log in to your Samsung account. After establishing a password, I was able to wirelessly transfer between the old and the new Galaxies.
You could either transfer data manually via a PC with the cable, or if the touch element of the touchscreen works (even if the display itself doesn't) you may be able to connect the phone to a TV to see the screen.
Shouldn’t make a difference, but personally it makes more sense to me to have it in first, that way your new device is configured immediately and ready to receive calls and texts which you may need to continue the setup (e.g verification codes)
Very unlikely, that would require the network/carrier to open the phone and insert it themselves. If you have bought a phone that comes with a plan, the SIM card will likely come in a small sleeve
If the touchscreen works but the display doesn't, you could try connecting it to a TV with a USB C to HDMI cable. If both don't work, you'll probably need to manually transfer as much data as you can with the cable.
@@davidwood3644 If you have no access to WiFi and you require an update, then it's probably best to just manually transfer the data (photos and videos) via a cable and PC

Its not clear what SIM is in which phone. So confusing.
There’s only one sim, and moved it before the transfer
@@TropicalTech So how is the old phone working? How are the apps appearing if the SIM is absent?
@@brettclark3885 I'm not sure what you mean, only cellular functions will not work when there is no sim in the phone. Most apps will be stored on the device itself and will be transferred. If you have apps and files on a micro SD card (separate card to the SIM), then you don't necessarily need to transfer these as you can just move the SD card at any time afterwards.
@@brettclark3885the sim card is just your phone number basically the apps stay on the phone you transfer them to the new phone with all the files with smart switch

What exactly is "other files " and how to delete the unwanted files out ou thises.
These will just be files that can't be put in one of the other categories.
what do i do if my screen on my old phone doesnt work?
Does the touchscreen element work? If so you could connect it to a TV or monitor to view the screen.
If not, you may be best transferring data to a PC via cable.
I have a problem with my mobile data. Doesn't work after smart switch
Have you switched the SIM cards?
My pictures in my text messages did not transfer. How do I fix that?
Save your pictures from your text messages on your old phone to your gallery on the old phone. Then you can transfer them to your new phone, but they will not be in WhatsApp messages, only in your gallery.
What about transfer when the screen on the old Galaxy is blotted out by a big black blob and I can't log in to my old device?
If the screen doesn't work in that area it would be difficult. You could try transferring data manually via a PC with a cable
Got it through Smartfind Unlock. There is a small hint to unlock the screen of the old phone via the PC which allows you to log in to your Samsung account. After establishing a password, I was able to wirelessly transfer between the old and the new Galaxies.
@@kevanbrown8272thanks for this! Might come in handy one day 😅
My old phone is unacessible because screen is malfunctioning.... How to transfer the data then?
You could either transfer data manually via a PC with the cable, or if the touch element of the touchscreen works (even if the display itself doesn't) you may be able to connect the phone to a TV to see the screen.
Samsung says on their site to not switch the sim card until transfer is complete.
Shouldn’t make a difference, but personally it makes more sense to me to have it in first, that way your new device is configured immediately and ready to receive calls and texts which you may need to continue the setup (e.g verification codes)
What will happen if the old phone cannot power off??
That shouldn't affect the transfer as long as its functional
yeah... nothing worked for me. ☹
Where did the problem occur?
the QR scaner is letting me take a pic. I'm using a public wifi if that's the cause.
@@gilgarza2903 It could be that yes, also make sure the code is bright enough and in focus.
Any android phone can
The new phone needs to be a Samsung Galaxy phone to use Smart Switch
Yeah
My account not transfering need help😢
Which part of the process did this happen at?
👍👍
I thought the new phone came with a new Sim card in it
Very unlikely, that would require the network/carrier to open the phone and insert it themselves. If you have bought a phone that comes with a plan, the SIM card will likely come in a small sleeve
Screen is broken on old phone
If the touchscreen works but the display doesn't, you could try connecting it to a TV with a USB C to HDMI cable. If both don't work, you'll probably need to manually transfer as much data as you can with the cable.
Does your phone have a pen? If so, that should work on the screen
Not helpful at all. The old android is a different version and needs updated. And the cell is no longer active. How do you do the transfer now?
I don't see why you can't update the old device unless it's completely broken/not working? What device is it exactly?
@@TropicalTech Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G, Model SM-G986U. Cell is not active and no WiFi. Cell is fully functional and charged.
@@davidwood3644 Are you not able to connect to WiFi?
@@TropicalTech There is no WiFi, when the system was installed the WiFi was NOT enabled. I am at work.
@@davidwood3644 If you have no access to WiFi and you require an update, then it's probably best to just manually transfer the data (photos and videos) via a cable and PC
👍
the old phone will also stay with the apps ?????
Yes, nothing will be deleted unless you choose to reset the device

That's strange, I don't see any reason it couldn't work, where did the problem occur?
Very well presented, thank you so much mate!
