Hey buddies, still alive? If so, congrats for getting through another tough year! I think this will be the last video of 2021 here and I hope this channel brought some joy to you this year. Looking forward to 2022 and the surprises it has for us, hopefully it's gonna be a great spring of rebirth for many. So here's to that! 🔥 Have a great one everybody, and see you in 2022!
the fact that you, someone who has never played this game, can appreciate this song on the same level as me, someone who has played this game about 100 times, speaks VOLUMES for your passion for music, and also for the pure skill of the composers who wrote this masterpiece. i get the same pure, visceral reaction of excitement that you do, every single time i hear this track or play the mission it's from.
He did the same with Guilty Gear and it was great. Pointed out that there's a lot of thematic thought that goes on when making the songs he reviewed. This goes for most songs he's covered in his videos, no matter the genre.
@@ValkyrieTiara not 100% sure what OP means in this context but yes it's from the very final mission of the game! th-cam.com/video/A8fU4NuxZW8/w-d-xo.html
For Knight it is a prayer freely given. The Soldier is given this with slight hesitation and the undercurrent of an order. For Mercenary? Extreme reluctance as the Demon Lord is the only one that can actually stop Nuclear Armageddon. Least that's how I see it.
So for a little context on Zero as a song. It's set against a possible world ending nuclear exchange with the only thing standing in the way of stopping is your ex-wingman who's in a super plane you can only damage with head on attacks like a high stakes joust. So the entire final dogfight has this really intense dance for the future of the world between two friends theme going on that the music absolutely enhances.
Additional context: The choir talks about a fairytale demon/hero called Razgriz, who is prophesized to appear in a time of strife as a demon to end the conflict, leaving the demon to sleep. But once it reawakens, it appears as a hero. As the protagonist fights through the enemy, they can hear enemy and allies alike call them a demon, destroying everything in their path, gaining the name "Demon Lord of the Round Table." By the end of the game, you're seen as a hero by everyone, and leave unsung once again.
@@greekieshion4501 If we want to go even deeper we can take Zero's three different styles of instrumentals: classical, modern, and flamenco as thematic representations of all 3 of the games "Ace Styles": Knight, Soldier, and Mercenary coming to a head in the final conflict. Zero is an absolute rabbit hole of music direction playing off of narrative and gameplay.
"Did you know... there are three kind of aces? Those who seek strength, those who live for pride, and those who can read the tide of battle. Those are the three. And him... he was a true ace."
Keiki Kobayashi probably chose Flamenco because the Final Boss of AC: Zero is like a joust between knights. Now that I think about it, almost all AC stories are basically fairy tales but with the aesthetics of a modern war. Maybe that’s why having a soundtrack that mixes old instruments with new ones and occasionally something else to spice things up works so well with this franchise.
Another bit of info that makes this song even MORE epic is that the choir isn't just singing random syllables. It's the same Latin poem as featured in Ace Combat 5's "The Unsung War". It's about a mythical figure called the Razgriz, which appears when history witnesses a great change, causes a lot of destruction, dies, and returns as a great hero. Which implies that the hero of both Ace Combat 5 AND Ace Combat Zero are manifestations of the Razgriz! It takes these airplane duels and turns them into grand mythological struggles and it's just the most epic shit ever.
cum historia mutat valde razgriz revelat ipsum primum daemon scelestus est cum potentia sua daemon fundet mortem in terram deinde moritur cum somnus cum somnus finit razgriz surget surget iterum magnus heros est
@@republicofustio4381 I mean, Cipher's story does line up with that of the Razgriz fairly well. It's not a perfect 1:1 match, but the razgriz poem but pretty close!
@@metalgear6531 not really, he didn't get betrayed by his own country and branded a traitor. Razgriz also didn't fight against lasers and nukes. Yes, the Ark Bird had a laser, and yes they were trying to terrify both sides with a V2 to end the war into their favor but the approach on both stories are vastly different. Razgriz has a very heroic feel to it, with all their accomplishments and deeds, as Cipher is a Mercenary that aspired fear into anyone who tried to oppose him.
You ready for a huge trip? Imagine being at E3 2006, sitting in a dark room with a big screen ahead of you. ou start to hear Yuri Lowenthal Ytalk, accompanied with a bit of guitar strumming. And then Zero kicks in. You're watching a string of cutscenes you know nothing about. Holy crap did that tower just shoot a laser? And what are all these squadrons shooting past the screen? And right as that chorus kicks in there's the logo. Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War.
Honestly, I still prefer buying the holy trilogy on a whim for like a buck each. Turning it on non challantly and getting hooked. Not that many games get that epic feeling down and with today's hype culture it's harder. Nothing beats finding a hidden gem by yourself, knowing nothing about it, no expectations contaminating your experience.
I wanna say how I love both AC OSTs and your analysis, but I'm fixated on the jack adapter necklace and how it works so well. In all seriousness, though. Thank you for shining light on Zero. I would attempt to describe how it makes me feel, but you've already done that better than I ever could. It's the summit of a very, very tall mountain, and I never want to come back down. PS: Share you feelings about Dissidia too! God I loved that game, and the remixes were fantastic.
What I love about these reactions is that you always introduce me to tracks from games/animes that I've never heard of before, and I can say this track is EASILY going to my playlist!! Excited to listen to more osts from this game!
Other huge highlights from the AC series in addition to this and Daredevil from 7: From AC5:First Flight, Rendezvous, Closure, Into the dusk, The unsung war(This game's "big one") From AC4:Comona, Emancipation, Megalith(The most famous Ace combat track) From AC6:Liberation of gracemaria is the only one i'm familiar with here. Never owned any xbox And From project wingman(An AC fangame, superb music too):Showdown, Kings. If ever you want some more music recommendations, hit me up, i've been a giant music nerd all my life
Hmm, it's just niche. I wouldn't call it underrated, probably under appreciated, but again it's genre isn't very mainstream like Shooters, Platformers, RPGs, and Action games/Action JRPGs
@@ardantop132na6 Ah, the classic trench runs. Star Wars has nothing on AC when it comes to trench runs. Oh, and the tunnels. Gotta love flying several hundred miles per hour through tunnels. Feels so awesome til you've crashed for the 25th time.
The chorus lyrics are actually the music theme from Ace Combat 5, they are mixing both motif's from Ace Combat 5 Unsung War and and it's prequel, Zero.
Fun Fact: Zero plays during the final boss of Ace Combat Zero, in one of the most intense dog fights thematically in the series. A 1 on 1 duel against a former friend and wingman, at you are forced to basically keep playing chicken with him to be able to damage him, as a NUKE acts as the time limit for your battle. This music is super epic and the flamenco part of the song perfectly fits the aerial dueling dance of this fight, and every part of it makes you know just how high the stakes are in this fight.
To add to this Fun Fact: Zero is a direct reference to Razgriz Theme from AC5 specifically from 10:52 onwards. Which makes lot of sense considering AC0 is a direct prequel to AC5. Another Fun Fact: The choir from Razgriz Theme is a short Myth of the Razgriz written and sung in Latin. The crazy part is that in AC5 you hear this Myth retold multiple times throughout the game in English. Keiki Kobayashi is a madman for being about to incorporate that Myth into an epic song and then pays homage to Razgriz Theme by making it even more epic in Zero.
@@zangy3748Yes, which is a real thing and the scariest of modern "nukes". When someone says nuke these days they're usually referring to the nuclear warheads of missile. The most lethal of all are ICBM MIRVs, Intercontinental Ballistic Missile with Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicles. They fly way up into the atmosphere from the safety of friendly airspace, then when they are super fast and high they become almost uninterceptable. Once in range of their targets they release several nuclear warheads and potentially even decoy warheads to make shooting them down a near fruitless effort.
@@Unknownost that makes the final monologue in AC:5 makes more sense. You know, the one where (i forget his name) says that Razgriz first come as a demon, brings death upon the land, and then "dies". That Razgriz is Cipher. And then, it come back, but now, becomes a hero instead. And that Razgriz is Blaze and the Razgriz Squadron
The spanish guitar "solo" part is the most hype part in a song ever. Always makes me think of two fighters simply circling each other, blades bared. I guess that's the point considering what this song is the background for.
When I played that game for the first time I was 9 years old and I reacted the same way as you with the soundtrack. To this day it continues to surprise me and teach me new things, simply amazing 🔥
I think this "reacts" where you know the song before is much better, more technical. I really know more about this theme than any previous one and I love it. I like to learn, this presents better opportunity ;) Amazing job Alex!
Hell yeah, let's go! Been waiting for your reaction on Zero ever since you did one for Ace Combat 7, you mentioned there how Ace Combat as a franchise has one of the best Music for a video game and in general which lead me checking out it's soundtracks.
I highly recommend watching the Aces At Operation: Digital Hollywood live performance video. Keiki Kobayashi on piano with Takanori Goto on guitar and the audience clapping as the castanets... I think it's still one of my favorite renditions of Zero, despite the lack of vocals. It's awesome to watch, especially with how coordinated they are for such a small-scale performance.
Oh jeez, right when you gave us that quick lesson about playing Flamenco slowly, I had to bust out my old classical guitar again! And kudos to the Patreoners choosing an Ace Combat game for the video!
I was SO looking forward to this! Seriously, I'm Spaniard myself and it always amazed me how this could possibly be THE best Flamenco piece of music in video game history. I'll be looking forward to when you analyze "The Unsung War", from "Ace Combat 5", which kind of has a rivalry of sorts with "Zero" for the title of "Best Theme in the entire series". Fun fact, the main theme you mention around the 04:00 mark, is actually a modification of the main theme from AC5. And that's by design, since "Ace Combat Zero", despite its name, is actually a prequel to "Ace Combat 5" specifically. After that, you'll only have to analyze "Agnus Dei" from "Ace Combat 04" and "The Liberation of Gracemmeria" from "Ace Combat 6" and you'd have analyze all the "big themes" that Keiki Kobayashi has composed for the series. lol
Agnus Dei is the climax of the game, simply magnificent. But Ace Combat 3 too is full of great, emotional, eerie and downright scary ass songs that really make you feel like you're lost in the Electrosphere.
On that note you might also want to check out what's possibly the best Flamenco piece of music in anime history as well: Hisoka's theme from Hunter x Hunter. It's the best example I know, anyway!
Everybody loves the battle flamenco. Also, quick note that the vocals directly connect the main themes of Zero and 5, the previous game, implying they’re fighting the same enemy. It also tells the story of a key in-game legend (The Razgriz) which links the two games closer. I’d like to think it’s still optimistic, though. Great work! Hope I get to see you cover Kings as well!
Now, it would only be right to listen to "Kings" and "Coronation" from Project Wingman by Jose Pavli, as the Game was heavily inspired by and a love letter to Ace Combat and Zero in particular. Would love to hear your thoughs about that one.
Man... I don't need to say anything more, this game was such a big part from my chhildhood... My pfp is literally the Galm emblem the emblem from cipher the character you control on the game, man i had the original japanese copy of this game, and I cry with happiness whenever I hear this piece of art that is that song i'm glad you loved it as much as i love this song, you described the exact felling you get when u are versing pixy on this mission, the adrenaline, the fear, the sadness, the happyness, on it. It's such a great game the history of it it's just perfect.... My inglesh is a bit messy because i'm from Brazil, but i needed to comment on this video
yoooo what an absolute treat this video is. Ace Combat’s soundtracks are always integral in such a significant way that it elevates a mere dogfighting game into an experience
What always made me respect the song more (and the soundtrack in general) is that it's in a PS2 game from the mid-2000s. This was back when game soundtracks would still use synthesized instruments so this always felt like a big thing to me. It's even more so since you had Ace Combat 4 and 5, which came out before this game, having music that's just as bombasic and amazing.
As a die hard fan of 25 yr of Ace Combat series, the holy trinity of Ace Combat OST that gave me the most goosebumps are -Ace Combat 4 "Megalith - Agnus Dei" + "Rex Tremendae" -Ace Combat 5 "The Unsung War" -Ace Combat Zero "Zero" (the music in this video) They are all final boss music. Each perfectly convey the emotion present in the narrative. "Zero" is about the final showdown of 2 brilliant pilots who used to be buddies and wingmen, but because of ideological differences ended up fighting for different sides. I think Kobayashi sees these 2 characters as noble swordsmen fencing in the skies. I'm glad people who never played this game appreciate how brilliant this masterpiece is.
Hello Alex! I'm Zero (ironic isn't it?) I just saw your video, I don't know much about music and not much of spoken English however, I was super happy to see you review this song, I've seen other videos about you. songs I like but this is my favorite and although I don't understand any technical terms about music I saw in you the same feeling I have while listening to it, it's an amazing song and I'm really happy to see someone share the same feeling as me, i'm brazilian and songs like that here are not popular at all so i feel like it's a song i like and then i found someone else who likes it too, thank you! it was amazing !
The lyrics for the Latin vocals in this track are also present in "The Unsung War" from Ace Combat 5, since Zero is a prequel to AC5 this ties both titles together very nicely. The lyrics themselves are part of a poem about a demon called Razgriz that mirrors the plot of AC5. For the first half of the game Wardog squadron "rains death upon the land" in a war led by corrupt officials. Then after being presumed dead Wardog squadron returns "this time, as a great hero" and is now being called "The Aces of Razgriz" by the army because of their heroic deeds. Now with these lyrics being present in "Zero" there is a catch, Cypher isn't a hero even if he rises to save the world from nuclear annihilation as he still killed a ton of soldiers and civilians throughout the game and that applies for Mercenary, Soldier and Knight playthroughs. It could just hint at "The Aces of Razgriz" becoming heroes in the future because of the outcome of the Belkan war in AC Zero.
Yeeeesss!!! Demon of Razgriz rules! I would really like to see Ace combat 4 and so on being remastered.. the songs, omg, rex tremendae, agnus dei, unsung war, arr living in my head rent free since my teen days..☺️
Yep. Thematically it's a direct connection since Zero is the story of the events that directly shape Unsung War, but given that the Belkans use their tech to aid the major enemy factions in each game, it's the defining story for the series as a whole. With the moniker of Demon Lord of the Round Table, Cypher doesn't make it past the first part of the legend, but Wardog/Razgriz does.
With Knight there is a genuine good soul but haunted by what they've done and what had occurred, they never fly again. The soldier is discarded and vanishes without a trace. The Mercenary is well and truly Demonized and while Cipher technically fulfills the second half with the stopping of V2, they will always be seen, whether by themselves, by their enemies or even by their former friends, as The Demon Lord of the Round Table. A cursed mantle of Arthur they never wanted and with Mercenary? With the sheer volume of war crimes? They would be not welcome in that stretch of the Globe, Yuktobania wouldn't harbor him either...
Pretty much all the Ace Combat games have Amazing soundtracks. From AC4’s Megalith and Blockade. To AC7’s Battle for Farbanti and Daredevil, there’s too many masterpieces to list.
This is sooooo awesome! I know Alex that an Ace Combat video won't be your most popular ever but I appreciate so much you doing this. I love Kobayashi and went to see him in an Ace Combat Live concert this year in Tokyo. I think he is a really underrated composer but he has been able to transmit so many emotions to gamers who were not playing RPG characters but just a faceless pilot in a metal bird. And that is great! Seeing you sharing your passion about this track made me emotional. I love Zero but hearing you talking about all its greatness made me shed some tears again. I just love when someone is passionate. It's a long overdue but I will subscribe to your Patreon. Thanks Alex.
Man its so good to see someone speak so excitedly about this song and the Aces soundtracks in general. This song has such strong childhood memories for me and still gets my heart pumping everytime I hear it.
Knew you would get to it after hyping Zero so much over countless vids. This and Daredevil are my favorite AC tracks, followed by The Unsung War, Liberation of Gracemeria and Agnus Dei. Love how many "what the fucks" flew through this vid. Passion🔥
I don’t know what is better. The autentic reaction of alex, who appreciate a good music Like me appreciate beers and wines… OR THE GUY who sugest This AMAZING composition of AC ZERO. Thank you both for this vídeo.
I expected just a random video about a music Producer reacting to Ace Combat Zero Soundtrack. Not a fucking class about the music itself! Ngl it blew my expectations, i checked your channel and i learned a lot. Great content, keep up the good work my man.
As someone who grew up playing Ace Combat Zero, the battle when this theme plays always was really sad, intense and emotional at the same time. And even more interesting is that this theme is, at the same time, referencing another epic soundtrack from Ace Combat, this time from Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. You will notice some common ground between both themes, but the lyrics are the same in both cases. It talks about an in-game legend about... some sort of angel that appears in some moments in history, sometimes as a hero and others as a demon. Some common theories are that the main character of Ace Combat Zero represents that same legend. Here's that other soundtrack: th-cam.com/video/mjY6awCr2_c/w-d-xo.html
I've got goosebumps to just see the title... Thank you so much, this track mean a lot for me. That's one of my favorite game ever. That's one of my favorite music ever. That's the track who push me into the love of music in video game, and the love of mix-style. And so much more. So thank you.
I'm currently transcribing this song for rumba flamenca as a project, The harmony is very important as well since you can hear a lot of exotic flat 2nds, dominant variants and modulation. There's a lot of orchestral flamenco like Manolo Sanlucar, Sabicas and Paco's famous concierto en Aranjuez. Great analysis Alex as always!
When I first played ACZ back in the day, this song playing as you head into the dog fight with your former wingman hit me hard. It's stuck with me through the years and is still among my favorite musical tracks to date. So glad to see you covering this one!
Fantastic soundtrack as usual. If you like this one, you'd probably love the Kid Icarus Uprising soundtrack as well, specially Dark Pit's Theme and Lightning Battle.
Great review as always Alex! Glad to see Ace Combat music recognition. Another cool fact I love about this song is how it takes a small music motif from the previous game Ace Combat 5’s “The Unsung War” track.
Nice! Was hoping to ser this. Zero is my fav AC Game and most of It is because of the music. Those flamenco vibes on the tracks are amazing and depicts so good about what the Game is about, about a deadly dance on the skies
Just an ace combat fan dropping in to see what a music enthusiast feels about the music. My favorite thing about the video is how much I can see your enjoyment from the tracks. It feels good to not only see someone so happy to hear the music I love, but also I can just see and hear your passion for music. I love how vibrantly you express your entertainment. Keep doing it cause it makes me smile to see someone so happy in their passion.
I cannot stress enough how much this song will mean to you if your analysis here combines with the context of the mission itself. The opening of tension between previous comrades now locked in combat with conflicting beliefs, the sorrow of the loss of that relationship- then the realization of their conviction to fight for their beliefs, even if it means fighting each other. It conveys the emotion of the moment, and the processing of those emotions spectacularly.
seeing you talk about the track and its components with such childish glee is what tells me that you really enjoy your job and enjoy talking about music. i share your sentiments with this one in particular too. nothing hypes me up like this track. whenever i'm playing card games, duels in their own right, and i get stuck in a rut, i just play this and somehow i enter the zone and make a comeback. listening to "zero" makes me feel like winning is always possible. this song completes any contest between two duelists.
I'm really glad you covered this song, ace combat 5 and Zero were two games that me and my brother connected over when we were growing up, and they al have fantastic soundtracks, and First Flight from 5, and Zero from well Zero lol are easily my favorite tracks from those games!
The energy you bring to your explanation of this music is absolutely phenomenal! You bring me right back to the first time I ever heard Zero, and the way you break it down without ruining the flow and energy of the music is fantastic! Great video!
Zero is the most epic soundtrack of Ace Combat saga, and the lyrics of the chorus is the similar to letter of "Unsung War" of ace combat 5, singing to the "Demon/Hero of Razgriz"
Bro u have no idea how much this means to me that your reviewing this music. Zero is my fav video game song of all time for years no one understood its greatness and finally someone I respect 👏 loves it thsnkyou!!
Your reactions to this songs is pretty much what I do every single time I listen to this track. I love this series. I love dogfights. I love the soundtracks.

God, this track and Megalith Agnus Dei really make me regret that Ace Combat 5 is the only one of the holy trinity that I've been able to play. Ace Combat is a bloody ride every game I play, and I can't wait for the next game to come
@@its-amemegatron.9521 Oh, no, I will never not love Ace Combat 5 or its music. I still remember Chopper, and the horror I felt as a kid hearing out of nowhere "Climb nuggets, climb!", and all of the beautiful soundtracks in the game as I crashed over and over in my first playthrough lol. Just wish I could have the opportunity to play Zero and 4 to appreciate those soundtracks with their context as well, because if being a music nerd has taught me anything it's that context always hits different
I'VE BEEN WAITING ON THIS ONE. Fantastic breakdown as always, Alex. I've learned so much while watching your channel lol. I never really had an ear for all of the intricacies that came with musical compositions until I started watching you. Watching you has been such an educational experience. Keep up the good content, man! Can't wait to see what you put out next.
Something I think is worth noting is the gong bit you called out, where the sky clears- that's tied to an interlude in the final boss fight. Right there, you have a beat to stabilize- so your comment there is actually incredibly on point for having never played it.
oh man you just made my day Alex! I have been waiting for this one ever since I saw your Daredevil reactions. now that you made a reaction/analysis to Zero any chance you'll do a reaction for the antithesis of Zero? which is Kings from Project Wingman? if Zero gives you the feeling of the hero knight fighting the villain to save the world, Kings gives you the vibe of the knight fighting the villain at the worlds end if that makes any sense
Your joy in listening to this is so contagious and I get the same rush from this track despite also having never played the game. Thanks for the great video!
One of the best songs from the franchise. This, "First Flight", "Wardog", "Shorebirds", "Randezvous" are just too amazing to exist. Kobayashi is the best video game ost composer out there. He absolutely nailed it.
I have watched this video a few times now and I have learned a few terms about this song. I have played the Ace Combat series from 3 to 7. But the Music from zero is my most listened to music. So I wanna thank you for how you explained the different elements making me love this song more and every time it comes on, my neighbors hear it also.

I'd love to see your take on Rex Tremendae + Megalith Agnus Dei from Ace Combat 4's soundtrack, it was the first time in the series they went with the incredible and powerful orchestral sound the series is known for, and it still ranks in my top 3 tracks from the series
Yesssss I've been waiting for you to react to this specific track since I found channel a long time ago. Always love your passion for music, appreciating and loving things even if you're not familiar with the source material. Music is one of the most important things in this world and tracks like Zero need to be celebrated.
Great video Alex! Another thing about the choir section: The lyrics of that section and rhythm parallels with "The Unsung War" from Ace Combat 5 since the events of Ace Combat Zero serve as a prequel to the events that happen in Ace Combat 5. Since Ace Combat 5 came out before, Kobayashi used music from that game to connect it to this one.
Mate, I thought I couldn't enjoy Daredevil or Zero more than I already do. But seeing your breakdown of this. Damn... It's like you finally got me to truly understand just how gloriously gorgeous these tracks are. The sheer joy you display is damn infections, I'm damn well grinning from ear to ear :D
I can not fully explain it with terms, but the slower part with the vocals really had me feel mellow and sad. The realisation that I actually had to fight my wingman, my buddy that I fought with for so long. Then the acceleration kicks in with the guitar. Realization tells me that he is an enemy, a Nuke will kill thousands if he is not stopped. The dogfight commences. Knights jousting eachother to ge tthe upper hand. As the fight closes to the end. The sound falls into the void. One last missile. It connects..... Target down.... The cutscene plays. One last pass. Silence.... Perfect silence to fill the sadness in the void. A masterpiece still to this day.
Hey buddies, still alive?

He did the same with Guilty Gear and it was great. Pointed out that there's a lot of thematic thought that goes on when making the songs he reviewed. This goes for most songs he's covered in his videos, no matter the genre.

Now that I think about it, almost all AC stories are basically fairy tales but with the aesthetics of a modern war. Maybe that’s why having a soundtrack that mixes old instruments with new ones and occasionally something else to spice things up works so well with this franchise.
heck even 5, which zero is a prequel for, has a ton of mythological imagery with the razgriz myth
And there's a Country named Sapin (Spain) in Ace Combat Zero

Another bit of info that makes this song even MORE epic is that the choir isn't just singing random syllables. It's the same Latin poem as featured in Ace Combat 5's "The Unsung War". It's about a mythical figure called the Razgriz, which appears when history witnesses a great change, causes a lot of destruction, dies, and returns as a great hero.
Which implies that the hero of both Ace Combat 5 AND Ace Combat Zero are manifestations of the Razgriz! It takes these airplane duels and turns them into grand mythological struggles and it's just the most epic shit ever.

@@DonVigaDeFierro lol, Google actually detected the Latin and offered to translate it. Gotta love it.
eh I wouldn't necessarily call Galm Team a mythical figure of Razgriz.
Love your reactions to music in general, you've introduced me to so many soundtracks I've never heard of
the real some guy without a moustache likes ace combat or acknowledges it's existence, really?
Ace Combat has some of the best OSTs I've ever heard. 4 and 5 are my favorites
@@MrThunda51 Even 7's is incredible, and Assault Horizon is no slouch. I also really liked "Liberation of Gracemeria" from 6.
AC0's reveal trailer is one of the best I've ever seen
I wanna say how I love both AC OSTs and your analysis, but I'm fixated on the jack adapter necklace and how it works so well.
In all seriousness, though. Thank you for shining light on Zero. I would attempt to describe how it makes me feel, but you've already done that better than I ever could. It's the summit of a very, very tall mountain, and I never want to come back down.

Ace Combat is one of the most underrated game series of all time.
Flying under the radars, yeah.
Hmm, it's just niche. I wouldn't call it underrated, probably under appreciated, but again it's genre isn't very mainstream like Shooters, Platformers, RPGs, and Action games/Action JRPGs

Ace Combat is one of the games series ever made.
I always play this song when I'm dogfighting in DCS World. I swear it helps me max perform the aircraft if I'm in a two circle rate fight.
Isn't the nuke actually a cluster bomb for several nukes at once?
More people need to be exposed to the brilliance of Ace Combat music and I’m glad you’re doing that
I was SO looking forward to this!
After that, you'll only have to analyze "Agnus Dei" from "Ace Combat 04" and "The Liberation of Gracemmeria" from "Ace Combat 6" and you'd have analyze all the "big themes" that Keiki Kobayashi has composed for the series. lol
Would be cool if he analyzed the other big songs for 1, 2 and 3, and Infinity as well
Agnus Dei is basically the track that started Ace Combat's 'Every game has a single AMAZING TRACK' tradition in the minds of most people.
Agnus Dei is the climax of the game, simply magnificent. But Ace Combat 3 too is full of great, emotional, eerie and downright scary ass songs that really make you feel like you're lost in the Electrosphere.
@@Wallguardian I feel like introducing him to Electrosphere will send the poor man down a rabbit hole he'll never recover from.
AC ZERO is literally jousting on jets. And this music makes it an experience. Fucking crying every time hearing "Near the Border".
I love how the "flying through clouds and then the sky opens up" feeling can be portrayed so well by this soundtrack. Just by music.
"Yo buddy, you still alive?"
"And thanks 'friend', see ya again"

Now, it would only be right to listen to "Kings" and "Coronation" from Project Wingman by Jose Pavli, as the Game was heavily inspired by and a love letter to Ace Combat and Zero in particular. Would love to hear your thoughs about that one.
Thanks for the recommendation. I keep a imp print of your coment.

Ah, I was eagerly awaiting the day you'd address this glorious Flamenco Latin Choir masterpiece
As a die hard fan of 25 yr of Ace Combat series, the holy trinity of Ace Combat OST that gave me the most goosebumps are
-Ace Combat 4 "Megalith - Agnus Dei" + "Rex Tremendae"
-Ace Combat 5 "The Unsung War"
-Ace Combat Zero "Zero" (the music in this video)
They are all final boss music.
I'm a big fan of Ace Combat games and their music, and I think your analysis hit the bull's-eye and nice!
I also love how when the choir kicks in, they sing the Razgriz theme from AC5 as a tie-in to the previous game. So majestic - so poetic.
Never heard of this game before, but this soundtrack is amazing. Undeniably.
Oh, you have no idea.

Your enthusiasm is infectious, and getting to hear such a knowledgeable perspective on a song I've loved since I was a teen is a real treat!
Here's that other soundtrack:

I'm currently transcribing this song for rumba flamenca as a project, The harmony is very important as well since you can hear a lot of exotic flat 2nds, dominant variants and modulation.
There's a lot of orchestral flamenco like Manolo Sanlucar, Sabicas and Paco's famous concierto en Aranjuez.
Great analysis Alex as always!

Something I think is worth noting is the gong bit you called out, where the sky clears- that's tied to an interlude in the final boss fight. Right there, you have a beat to stabilize-
so your comment there is actually incredibly on point for having never played it.
Cool fact: the latin lyrics of ACZ come from the song "The Unsung War" from Ace Combat 5, look it up
oh man you just made my day Alex!
And Daredevil halted the development of the Lighthouse level and it paid off

Mate,
I thought I couldn't enjoy Daredevil or Zero more than I already do.
But seeing your breakdown of this. Damn... It's like you finally got me to truly understand just how gloriously gorgeous these tracks are.
The sheer joy you display is damn infections, I'm damn well grinning from ear to ear :D
I totally agree, this is one of the best video game tracks ever made, and it's definitely my favourite.
