Episode 28: Code Talker from Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
No Traces / No Alerts / Perfect Stealth / S Rank.
* * *
RULES:
1) Perfect Stealth / No Kills / No Combat Alerts.
2) NO TRACES bonus requires:
- No CQC (hold-ups are allowed) [the game makes an exception here for the boss characters, like the Skulls]
- No direct physical contact with enemies, like kicking or bumping into someone
- No weapons or bionic arm attacks
- No support weapons, including empty magazines
- No attacks from buddies
- No rank-restricting equipment, like active camo
- No supply or vehicle drops (calling in the chopper is allowed).
3) EQUIPMENT:
- Enemies have maximum level of preparedness against covert actions
- All enemy equipment is left intact (mines, cameras, helmets, etc.)
- My own equipment is fully upgraded with all bionic arm upgrades unlocked.
4) As an extra challenge, when dealing with enemies who are not the mission targets:
- No hold-ups
- No distractions
- No suspicions raised. - เกม

It's more accurate to say that you can't mark them permanently. Every time they disappear, so does the mark you put on them.

Fulton extraction puts a huge shock on the body. It’s too much for someone to young or old (unless the children Fulton is made) and considering how code talker has or had abilities like quiet it means he probably has a higher dexterity (defense) but the Fulton would be too much for his body all at once

It's just possible gameplay-wise, but impossible to be canon.

I did this without killing the skulls, going through the last part of the mission evading zombies and skulls and getting to the helicopter. I completely forgot about quiet being in the area and when she jumped onto the helicopter with me I jumped out of my seat

imagine being a guard in a mansion and HQ tells you "yo, your elite non-human colleagues have been punched down by a terrorist, prepare yourself he is coming" and you see him running at that speed towards you, i'd be like "nope didn't see you, for me is a no trace mate" too
So if you take out the skulls before reaching the mansion, the guards don't turn into zombies and the Skulls don't reappear? That's pretty awesome.

You can sneak past them completely with some skill and patience. Then after you get to Code Talker, the soldiers in the house will all be zombies and the Skulls will relocate to scout out the terrain close to the LZ.

This game is still ahead of its time now. But for when it was released its crazy. Amazing graphics and the gameplay is just next level

Naked snake sneakily approaching a sniper is giving mgs3 vibes
About the female Skulls:
1) They have the same AI as Quiet. I used a strategy similar to what I used in my fight with her: th-cam.com/video/vBOnu1Mz24s/w-d-xo.html
2) Initially, they are completely deaf to footsteps or gunshots. They only become capable of hearing you once they detect you and fire a shot at you (simply getting a presence indicator is OK).
3) They can't see you while they move between positions (1:45).
4) If you don't let them detect you, they always aim at the point from which you performed your last successful attack against one of them. They all change their positions after each successful attack.
5) They also change their positions once enough time passes after your last attack. They can "sense" your current location and will choose their positions depending on where you are located.
6) There is zero randomness involved in this strategy. The Skulls always move to the same positions if you do everything the same way each time, so it's not as difficult as it may seem. The only thing that takes some actual skill is the second kick against the 4th Skull (4:03). It is rather hard to pull off successfully because the Skulls are invulnerable while they're lying on the ground and they jump away very quickly after getting up.
7) This method is only viable in the normal version. You need 5 or 6 kicks to knock out a Skull in Extreme version. That's at least 20 kicks for all four. Good luck figuring out an approach for that.

I am simply amazed by how many different approaches you have to play this game. Just played this mission once to get the story going but damn, it looked way different xD
The mansion isn't a bad level, but I wish they had placed the code walker in a different location that wasn't just by the back entrance. Perhaps up stairs or more inward into the mansion to have the player work more to save him.
+Madnam This is how I feel about most of the African rescue missions.
Reaching most rescue targets is an absolute joke in most of the missions to begin with, but placing them with no more than 2 guards at the very back where it's easy to flank in renders the game rather nonsensical.
+vman339 Many of the later episodes were so easy compared to the earlier missions, I thought the game reverted into tutorial mode.
Eh to be fair I always thought going in the front was too obvious, I actually never knew he was right near it. I usually sneak in the back way.

It really is just paying attention to detail and thinking that will net the player the "best" route.

Am I correct in understanding that walls and structures like the mansion do nothing to effect sound detection range? That would explain a lot of the mapping limitations of the game.

+sam hanmma thats what i was thinking.. as impressive as these videos seem with all the pill popping and straight running with no looking around it really just seems like watching a guy using cheats and having an easy time about it.. i always try to play a realistic experience, looking around for where people are and sneaking around but these players are so bold and get away with it.. and its obviously because they played it 100 times and know where everything is so thats why its really more like cheating than playing an authentic mission experience.. and yeah they get away with things that ive done and the game wouldnt let me get away with it so on pc there is definitely a better possibility of hacking the games mechanics.. even if that isnt what hes doing the play style is really just exploiting the games short comings rather than really trying to show a solid, realistic looking playthrough. which is fine if its a big boss run.. its just not how i play but i get spotted even when im being cautious..

+MGOFor3ver basically, S rank guaranteed. First time I obtained "no trace" bonus, by accident, I got my S rank. Speed and lack of other positive bonuses almost becomes pointless.

1:00 the fearsome Skulls Unit gets their asses literally kicked by a guy with no shirt and a water gun.
Isn't it funny that they didn't have anyone guarding the entrance to where Code Talker was actually sitting?
NOTE: You can also take out only 3 skulls pre code talker ~ mansion; and once you get to code talker; instead of doing the slow walk to the exit; restart checkpoint; call Pequod /Chopper to the LZ and you can now run with Code Talker while the enemy will be wandering puppets with one more Mist Sniping Skull perched on the ledge to the right hand side of the Bridge [Note: No Enemy Tank will come either]
You may Simply equip your Electric Arm; set code talker down; charge that arm up and ZAP:

Will you show the Extreme versions of these missions (like Quiets, this one etc.) or you just think they're too much bullshit to deal with?
+coap Too much bullshit. All bosses have 2-3 times more health points on Extreme. Taking them out with melee would take too long. It will be the same exact strategy, but with a lot more running around.
Quiet is totally doable (she needs 5 or 6 kicks instead of 2 on Normal), but both fights against Skulls are gonna take close to an hour. I don't have that kind of patience.
What about the Subsistence ones?
coap I will definitely do Occupation Forces, since it requires a different strategy. Don't know if C2W Subsistence worth doing because it's lame (you just need to grab a grenade and throw it near the comm station in the next room).

This is super impressive, but for an extra advantage in terms of speed, after the cutscene that puts CT on your back, you can pause and return to the checkpoint to be able to sprint the whole way out instead of being locked to walking.
Yeah, but then you don’t get the no retries bonus, which is definitely nice to have for S rank attempts
I like how those 2 guards that walk past you towards the end don’t take notice to the random floating old guy on the other side of the rock (I know his name is Code Talker)

+Muiz Khan Pretty much. It has to be so that the time won't matter. That plus perfect stealth no kills passes 130000 points every time.
+Muiz Khan nope, you gotta also do all (or at least most) of the objectives.
Umm, not really. 20000 for perfect stealth no kills, 5000 for no alerts, 5000 for no kills. I have not beaten every mission no traces yet but I know the dozen or so I have it was never less then 100,000 points. So No traces attempt alone should give you the bonus. Hell you can't touch anybody so you should be able to finish with a little time score at least. That's usually like 30,000 on the low end too.
Close it is only 130,000 for an S rank. So it is definitely guaranteed.
Wait a minute... I thought pressing attack (even CQC) at any point voids the no traces achievement, or are the rules different because of the Skulls?
Kick or CQC enemies with a health bar on their head don't cancel no traces.
no traces means that not a single weapon of any kind was used by the player. cqc is not a weapon, and the water pistol does not have ammo. so both are fair game.

You can CQC in the air, like in one of the missions, the first mission in Africa I believe, wherein you have to blow up the water system or something, could be destroyed using the bionic arm. If you do a running strike at it, it will destroy the water system, as if you used C4.
As such, it could be accomplished with no trace as well.
Idk why this popped up as I’m doing this mission for the first time rn but it’s so badass…me and quiet got into a sniper vs sniper battle completely organically and it reminds me so much of the end from mgs3 easily one of the most badass moments I’ve had in this game

It's always impressive to see someone who actually plays stealth games well. I feel like 90% of us regular gamers dont get enough practice in because the market is so oversaturated with action games.

BBBS12 I dunno, it DOES say that he didn’t retry the mission, but then again, it’s always possible he just quit and started up the mission again.
Although, that DOES seem unethical, considering the cost for deploying with such highly upgraded equipment seems like constantly quitting and going back into would harm the resources he possesses.

Edit: I expected to see an army of skulls at the mansion when you took that guy with you. That's what happened to me. I had to fight them off to get to the chopper. Damn this game is amazing, you'll have to fight the skulls one way or the other. I should have beaten them earlier

I have probably a couple of thousand hours on this game and I never knew taking out the skulls like that was even possible. I usually remain undetected until after I've climbed up the cliff and sneaked around them but then they just instantly know where I am and attack in some form.
I saw this video so many times but am still flabbergasted by it. I have no idea how players like prenatual are able to exploit the AI so easily. Maybe my brain just sucks at it.
