Damn... I read "Metallic Archaea No Traces CQC Only" and I genuinely did not believe my eyes. For a moment I thought it was an elaborate troll, playing on viewer expectations. I was wrong. This is amazing. I just took them out with Light Machine Guns and the Brennan (or Serval).
Yeah, this guy's skill is surreal. I usually took them out by heading to the rooftop and firing missiles and such from the top. Makes for an epic battle, believe me, it's fun. Playing this mission on the ground is rather difficult and requires some skill and balls. It's really messy and these stupid things are intimidating as HELL.
it really is, i had to go for like 4 hours of just doing that mission cause i always go stealth, not easy to kill armored skulls with stealth, pretty much just cqcd my way through (also really late reply rip)
This mission was disgustingly difficult for me and i spent hours struggling with every nerve i had not to break my controller (ive been taking anger management). Props.
for me I just used d walker’s Gatling gun. For the extreme version of the mission I used quiet with sinful butterfly, ran up to the top of the main building and let quiet do all the work. Easy S rank
The game makes an exception for The Skulls when it comes to CQC attacks and No Traces bonus, just like for all other humanoid bosses. Standard non-lethal punches and kicks do very little damage to them, so it's preferable to use Blast Arm here. Although you can't use Blast Arm by aiming and firing it when doing a No Traces run. The only option is to perform a running punch with it. I start the mission with Stout IFV-SC vehicle deployed. Any other wheeled armored vehicle should also work, but having a higher speed is preferable. Unarmored cars are too fragile for this (they get destroyed after 3-4 hits) and tanks are too slow to escape the Skulls' archaea clouds. Using a vehicle is not necessary, of course, but it speeds things up considerably. While using only the Blast Arm my best time on this mission was 18 minutes. With a vehicle I could bring it down to 8-9 minutes. Also note that I can't just order another vehicle via supply drop after the original one gets destroyed, because that also makes you lose No Traces.

i know, 4 years ago, but they always did that when they have their gun out, running at them is a good way to force their machete out, them having the machete is a good thing because counter attacking is really easy (and cool) but also because them having the gun out means they can either chip out your health and prevent you even from healing and if you're covered one of them is gonna pull a piece of rock from the ground below you that explodes, explosion which insta-kills even the armor uniform def2 (from what i remember)
He DEFINETLY remember the basics of CQC... Anyway, This game is know for having the weaker bosses in the series, but you make this looks like one of the best! Maybe this was the way we suppose to defeat them? That's what i like about this game, there's always another way for doing things. And the animations are superb.

I obly learned what "No traces" actually means/requires in this game and I noticed you've done a lot of no-trace mission completions so I'll be drawing from your videos when I go for all of the "no-traces" myself. A fully kitted out D-Walker Minigun, the body armor suit, and a back shield, and you're good to go to farm armor parasites. Just mind the gas they offput, it can easily disable D-Walker. On the bright side to that, you can always dismiss and deploy him again. Just make sure to do that when you're out of their sight.
Ngl the real world aprications for this strain of archea are tremendous, the ability to disable all weaponry/equipment/vehicles by oxidizing even corrosion reaistant alloys while reducing visibility in a certain area is a huge game changer, the only “realistic” part about the calcifying ones are that the crystals would only make their skin bullet resistant to a degree, it would hinder their mobility but a well crafted crystaline mesh would be even better than a ceramic or kevlar composite vest, while still being lighter (while reducing mobility tho)
Inagine spending years of your life being trained to be a killing machine while given multiple parasites to enhance your abilities just to get destroyed by some mute snake countering your attacks whkle not wearing a shirt
Enemybird There's a completion meter in game, to get it to 100 getting S rank on all missions and doing it with perfect stealth is one of the many tasks you need to do.

So using a vehicle worked pretty well after all here. Ramming them really takes a lot of health. Only 8 minutes, huge difference to my 40 minutes with only Blast Arm for No Traces on my first try. Nice. Did you find running and punching Skulls easier than using firearms? For me I felt it was much easier than my first playthrough of that mission using grenade launcher and machine gun. More time consuming but safer.

When I first fought the Skulls during Traitor's Caravan I tried to take them out with non-lethal attacks only (mainly with stun arm and running punches) and it took me close to 50 minutes. Didn't seem easy to me at all. Later when I played this mission I killed them with machine gun in about 4 minutes and it was a breeze in comparison.
General Goose Yes, it looks like using vehicles and keeping your distance makes them prefer melee and stone throw attacks. They use their guns more often when you stay at close to them (at 15-30m) or hide behind cover.

This strategy makes Big Boss the only Big Boss. The reason of you using armored vehicle is to ram on skulls occasionally to do some additional damage ? 6:19 a very close call, almost broke the no Trace bonus but your reaction time was so quick .
To think this is the same mission where I spent 17 minutes running into skulls with vehicles, and parried thousands of attacks just for them to get more shields, is insane
Just noticed that apc is BTR-82 or BTR-90. None of them existed in the 80ies. BTR-80 had smaller gun. Also you cannot move and fire from the same seat. Also engine start sequence takes a couple minutes. But does it matter when you fight some strange cyborg-like demons named 'skulls'?

I got an S my first run of this chapter. I just equipped Quiet with the biggest sniper rifle to hand, ran down to the far hanger, and took my machine gun out and dispatched the 4 skulls while Quiet dealt with the other 4. Perfect incursion.
And to think I used to be afraid of those assholes each time I had to bump into them. All that fear sort of evaporated when I got to this mission and started to own them with CQC

To think this is the same mission where I spent 17 minutes running into skulls with vehicles, and parried thousands of attacks just for them to get more shields, is insane
Just noticed that apc is BTR-82 or BTR-90. None of them existed in the 80ies. BTR-80 had smaller gun. Also you cannot move and fire from the same seat. Also engine start sequence takes a couple minutes.

I got an S my first run of this chapter.
I just equipped Quiet with the biggest sniper rifle to hand, ran down to the far hanger, and took my machine gun out and dispatched the 4 skulls while Quiet dealt with the other 4.
Perfect incursion.
I have to work on my timing. I know the attack is coming but I’m always hitting the cqc button to early or to late and I’m not sure which one.
