  • The bag of parts with a new cistern can be quite daunting. Here is how to assemble a push button one.

    Thank you so much for showing us how to assemble the system in a very simple way. The instructions that come with the tank are very complicated and hard to understand as they are translated into english. The only problem I encountered when I followed your demonstration video was that the plastic bolts you fastened on the tank have to be tightened with the plastic nuts under the toilet seat instead to make sure there is no leak when one flushes. I learnt that after assembling everything as shown in your video, however I quickly started all over and fastened the plastic bolts under the toilet seat and not under the cistern tank as shown. That immediately solved the problem. This was my first time installing a cistern tank. Thank you again for how you explain things so clearly.

    I remember I was determined to fit my own bathroom suite many, many years ago. So I booked myself on a ten week basic plumbing course at the local college. Once I had fitted all the cistern parts I sat it in the bath filled it with water to test just to be sure as a newby to plumbing would.

    I find a small amount of leakage from the nuts beneath, the washers are above as intended, and nuts done up to the correct tightness. why would this happen? Came as a kit so am quite surprised. trying to avoid the use of non-adhesive silicone as everyone says its for amateurs but the nuts wont make a seal no matter the level of tightness and perfection of positioning of rubber washer inside the cistern. Holes match... don't understand how it would be possible to make a correct seal without cross-threading the plastic nuts, silicone, or a second sealing washer.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The cistern might not be sitting square or you have an off centre hole in the pan. Best way to fix it to leave the rubber washer in place take off the cistern and pad around the hole with plumbers mait.

      On these two button jobs you cant, you can only get a bigger flush by making the water level as close to the overflow as you can.

    You look younger every time I tune in - have you found the fountain of youth? :-)
    I have one of those syphon that can be removed and replaced - siamp or some such name. Great idea but it is possible for the whole assembly to move when replacing part (they tend to last about 5 years in my hard water area) and hence cistern starts leaking at that union. Then one has to take cistern off and start again.
    There is also some rubber that perishes in the inlet - fortunately the isolation valve i put in still works but always a PITA to turn. Wish I had put the Pegler valve with lever - so much easier to operate even if they are a bit of an eyesore.

I had a small leak after fitting the valve where the copper mains pipe fits to the plastic thread of the valve so I took it apart and used some PTFE tape which stopped the leak. The only minor problem I have is the float arm rubs on the plastic syphon. I cannot see a way to adjust it and do not want to take it apart again in case I damage the plastic nut or copper nut.
