- On February 4, 2019 I was kidnapped by Islamist terrorists linked to Al Qaida in Mali, Africa, when I was pedaling towards the city of Timbuktu, in the Sahara desert. I was cycling through the Sahel. They stole everything from me. And I was kidnapped for 20 months. I was released on October 8, 2020

After 6 years and 65.000 km of cycling in Europe, Africa, South America and Asia, after being kidnapped for 20 months in Mali, and after visiting countries devasted by war such as Iraq and Afghanistan, I though that in may next trip (2024-?) I could bring a message of peace around the world.

On Feb. 2, 2019 while traveling in Mali bike by I am kidnapped by a terrorist group linked to Al Qaeda. After 20 months of captivity spent in the Sahara desert between Mali, Algeria, and Niger, I am freed on Oct. 8, 2020, at the height of the pandemic. For 20 months I manage to travel through South America and back in Italy I leave on September 2, 2003 with Asia as my destination, unaware that future events and the still open wounds of the kidnapping would lead me to Afghanistan.

I’m here because I saw your comment on the Frenchman’s video (Recumbent Bike Cycling for Peace). His story was hairy but I heard yours was terrifying. I’m glad you made it out safely and are able to share it. Stay safe out there.
