I once overclocked a 1.2ghz GPU on an old Dell laptop past 1.9ghz and somehow managed to keep it stable. I got blue screens and stuff at 1st, but id just slowly back off on certain settings, and reduce the clock speed little by little until it became stable again. I had it going at 2.1ghz too, but that obviously was NOT stable lol. Its still overclocked to 1.9 though and has been for like 9 years now. The battery on that laptop stopped functioning ages ago, but the GPU is still surprisingly effective. Especially considering how outdated the laptop is. Its not solid state or anything though. Load times take forever, and its hot and loud lol. I have the fans overclocked like a mofo, AND i have it sitting on a cooling tray with ridiculous airflow. Its essentially unusable unless it is sitting on a bunch of fans.
@@jyi9929 I agree, but to be fair, i've probably spent whatever I saved on electricity over the years anyways lol. I just use the legion go now. you gotta get another monitor on a lot of laptops so you can bypass optimus, it kills your fps unless you have a laptop that can bypass on its own. plus you can put it off to the side and you dont hear it as much
As a sound engineer I can confirm that this is a very loud sound and this may damage your ears if you listen to the fan noise for about 4 hours every day.
Needing a cooling pad is crazy 😂 I mean I am using Liquid Metal that could be why I never had heating issues let alone my fan speed sound like a airplane
I just got a gaming laptop for taking to college since my pc wouldn't fit inside my dorm (and I would have to haul it to and from campus 4-5 times a year). Did not realize how much louder they are. Thankfully mine lets me set my own fan curves so i can balance temps and noise

seems like a lot of people don't understand so let me explain real quick. What you are hearing is not the laptop fans its the cooling pad below the laptop. It helps the laptop suck cold air easily and its also cools the laptop depending on that how much or big the fan/fans are.
I think we just need to triple the thickness standard of gaming laptops so that we can incorporate liquid cooling. Because with a portability potential for gaming I wouldn't mind it weighing 3 to 5 times as much.
