Loving reading all the comments, and seeing the community we're building here! How utterly cute is this cat retirement village, I love how much each and every cat is loved and cared for here, no matter its needs. If you're new to my channel, don't forget to subscribe for more videos like this one - and if you want to find out more about Shropshire Cat Rescue, you can check out the links in the description 😺👨⚕❤
Keep the videos coming Dr Scott! Loving that you have moved from Bondi Vet to embark on your own journey and have your own channel now! 🎉 PS I love that you don't just focus on one type of pet, eg dogs only. Thank you for giving cats some air time as well as dogs and hopefully an array of other animals to come!
My son found a kitty when he was 5 years old. My son is 26 now. Just lost old Lucifer last July at 21 years old. What a ride it was. Rip my little old man... Luce 🐾
@rescuevet you really need to visit Maximus Meadows which is the home of Stray Cat Rescue Team West Midlands. You might have read about the stray cat Maximus on the BBC. This streetcat started an amazing rescue named after him! @straycarrescueteamwestmidl788
My favorite vet! Glad you have your own channel now! Your kids have grown so much…have enjoyed watching you interact with the animals and your family for a couple of years. Congratulations on your new venture!
Your first video appeared on my TH-cam. Subscribed. Always watch This Morning . Enjoy when you are on. I'm the owner of 3 cats, 17yrs, 10yrs and 9yrs. I'm very strict with food, only feed them cat food, dry and pouches, cat treats. So thankful no health issues. They receive their annual vaccinations. So tragic watching the cats who would adore a loving home, to be centre of attention, just to be loved on. One of mine is almost permantly on my lap 😊. Let's hope your videos educate cat owners regarding fleas. Applying flea treatment to back of their necks, my female, not so keen, amazing how treats divert their attention 😊. Neutering so important too as i'm amazed how many people think their pet should have a litter first. Owning a pet is expensive is expensive , especially vet fees but it's we, the owners who are responsible to keep them as healthy as we can😊 keep up the amazing work you do Dr Scott. Hope your channel goes from strength to strength😊
We are overwhelmed by the amazing response this episode has received. We are very grateful to Dr Scott for coming along to our shelter and helping to promote us and the work we do thanks to our amazing volunteers. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We are trying to read all your lovely comments but there are so many 😻😻😻
It's easy to see that your cat residents have been made as comfortable, healthy and enriched as possible, as well as coddled with love which they return to you wonderful volunteers! I loved how every (cute, indeed!) housing unit was equipped with toys, bed nooks and climbing structures.
I have a cat with Down Syndrome. Had him since he was 8 wks old. People wanted me to euthanize him. No way! He is my special boy. He is so cute with his wonky eyes/ears and flat little face. He is also mute. Life expectancy is 5 yrs and he is going on 7 yrs. I keep his world quiet and small. He has a helper cat. I got them a fake aquarium with fake fish. He is enjoying his life and is happy.
I promised my mom when she died in 2014 I would take care of the feral cats she was feeding. They are now 22 years old and still thriving. I hope they live much longer because I will greatly miss them. They force me to get up every morning to feed them. I have a shed out back I have made cozy for winter and summer where I keep food and water for them. They stay in my yard. They don’t wander out of it and it is fully fenced to protect from other animals. I had no idea cats live this long. I have also fed several cats on the street whose elderly owners passed away. They come and hang out in the shed with the other cats. One of the other property owners adopted the elderly cat left there when her owner died. Cats have a difficult life.
I take care of feral cats and they do not live that long typically. 2 to 3 years is an average life sometimes 4. They're living longer because of the care that you're giving them and that your mother gave them obviously. They are probably not considered feral anymore and are probably just semi socialized outdoor cats.
Thank you from all of us❤😊Many, like me, can't physically help because of illness and age. I decided to leave my house to the local no-k!ll cat shelter... it's the least I can do since cats were always the best part of my life 💫💞 (Edit to add: I forgot to mention, we had one kitty that lived to be 24 years old. We had him from a day old. His mom gave birth in the factory where my dad worked, but unfortunately it was in the city and she'd gotten hit by a car. We fed him formula from the vet until he could eat normal food. Anyway, yes, cats can kive along time!❤)
At our local shelter, hundreds of black and white cats in cardboard boxes were left outside one night. The shelter put out a news report, instead of criticizing whoever had the cats, they thanked them for bringing them to a safe place, instead of abandoning them, or worse. All were treated and found loving homes. This shelter does wonderful work, and is well-support by the wealthy community. The day hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, a wealthy donor charted a full-size jet and staff to rescue animals there. Many hundreds were saved, by I was haunted by the fact that that so many fleeing residents left their dogs chained up and they drowned. Loose, they would have had much better chances of survival. After that the laws were changed, evacuating people now have the right to evacuatetheir animals out with them.
It always should have been that way. Pets are family too. They should be allowed to go with their owners under such circumstances. I would never leave mine behind, no matter what. (Jan Griffiths).
I am from California so I have no idea how devasting and horrorifying as a hurricane is. I can only imagine from seeing movies and videos of how destructive these types of storms are. But reading about people being forced it is even more to leave your family (pets ARE family) chained to ensure they die is just despicable and cruel (those people should never be allowed to have a pet). I can understand that being force to evacuate and possibly never to be able to return home, I am positive those people would not leave their children home, so why would they leave without their pets? Also I was stunned to find out that black & white cats are hard to home... are you kidding me???? Aren't Tuxedo Cats some of the most adorable cats??? Our family has had many tuxedo cats each one with their own quirks and personalities. And black cats, I just cannot say enough about black cats they are absolutely so much fun. Thank God for places like these that give cats and more so feral cats a loving home. God Bless them
Your shelter sounds wonderful. Unfortunately-- the kind of people that leave their animal chained up or confined to die in a storm wouldn't be the types to take their pets with them, even if they could. There are many nasty and thoughtless people out there.
Many of the working poor did not have cars to evacuate, and buses were not organized in time to evacuate enough people out of New Orleans. Where would they take their pets through flooded streets? Many ended up in the Superdome ...as a refuge of last resort with a ripped leaking roof & 25,000 people or so sheltering there. Even if they had made it through flooded streets to this virtual island, I'm not sure the Louisiana National Guard would have allowed pet animals. The sanitary conditions were awful as it was for five days. There weren't many good options for people without transportation & the gov't was too slow to respond to getting people out before the storm hit.@@tinasally379
Thomas was a wild cat who one day at dusk in the barn jumped into my arms and never left. He has only one eye and is in his 24th year. He still thinks he is the guardian of the farm. My best friend in the world.
@@Stumpybear7640 Miss Puss is laying next to me on the couch right now. A couple years ago she picked my house and never left. She moved in at her own pace. She's my buddy and she follows me everywhere unless she's resting.
I adopted a senior female black & white cat. She was dumped at my local shelter at the age of 15. I just thought that was no way for her to be treated. I named her Hope and she gave me four of the best years of my life. Senior cats have so much love to give. Consider yourself lucky if you adopt one. I know I did.
I adopted an abandoned adult cat from the street. I assume his previous family abandoned him when they realized he had health issues. I provided a clean, warm home, meals, vet care, space to be himself and loving care for the almost two years of his life.
I adopted at different times two different cats that lived with me that I love you very much and I adopted them at the age of 10 and they lived until the age of 17 and 18. One was small and white, and didn't have much of a voice, her name was Daisy Pearl. The other one was big and black and it just had the most beautiful singing voice! And his name was Diesel. There were definitely yin and yang of my house. When they died nothing has been the same. I tried to adopt other cats and my health is not been the best and I had to return them to their owner thank God she took them back. She had to surrender them because she was having another child so when I had to give them back 3 years later her kids were of an age that she could handle them again. I miss having cats in my life.
When I was in my early teens we adopted a kitten who was found in a plastic bag with his dead mother and siblings. Named him Gizmoe and he was the family cat for a long time until I was in my late teens and suddenly I saw a change in him. He would always sleep at my room, bed and always go where I go, lay on my belly and sometimes get defensive over me. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer at the age of 19 where it made sense, cause it has been spreading for a few years without us knowing, well I believe Gizmoe knew cause thats when he started becoming "mine". He started his long rest in October last year and became 17 years old despite his health issues. He was my bestfriend and best anti depressant buddy and I miss him everyday.
My munchkin did the same…she “diagnosed” me with breast cancer. She also had kittens a week after biopsy and when she had her kittens I would awake to tiny kittens sleeping on my chest. Once I had surgery mama and kittens stayed in their whelping cubby and she settled into motherhood. Having a month of kittens and mama caring for me and getting me through the diagnosis process was an amazing experience. So much love and hope flowed through them. A year later the kittens are all in their forever homes and I’ll get random visits from them because they “tell” their new family they need to visit. 😂 My munchkin is as lovable as ever and when I’m having a particularly tough day she lays on my chest and purrrrrrrrs like a champ. ❤
I suspect it’s people who care too much about interesting patterns and colors, when it’s what is inside that counts. My guess is out of them, black cats get adopted first for looking like little panthers, then black & white tuxedos for their natural outfit, and last, the black & white “cow” kitties. I have had all color cats and loved them all… I think I’ve had all the colors at least. Many black cats, and some tuxedos, and exactly one cow cat, whose name was Girl and I loved her dearly; she was my long-term roommate’s cat first but when I moved in she chose me…and when he moved out they all stayed with me. Girl was old when she was adopted back in the mid-2000s. She lived until 2016, a mystery aged super-senior, very smol, very shy, very sweet. Tiny thing although she came chomsky, but we got her to a healthy weight and later in 2010 I had to force-feed her a month to keep her alive when she stopped eating. But one day she just came into the kitchen for food when I was feeding another cat and she was back to okay again! We were bottle-raising two kittens at the time which made it difficult to schedule. Yet I think taking in those newborns saved her life because we might not have had formula on hand to give her nutrition otherwise. Unlike the kittens, she had to be wrapped in a towel and cleaned up after from all the squirming. I miss her dearly. The kittens are now 14. Well, this month anyway, I know their birthdates. She lives in them and in my heart. And my literal dreams; I see so many of my cats in my dreams.
@@aidandevlon That's odd i have always heard from vets even when i got my cat, that black cats are left more often due to superstation. Also that generally in the month of October if they are outdoor cats they're reported lost (or unfortunately killed) more frequently for the same reason.
Also had a little tuxedo kitten! She stayed only a little bigger then a 8 week old, even when she was 4. She was the best cat ever, she would even play fetch!
Can humans live there, too? Surrounded by the unique personalities of magical, mystical kittycats, I'd be in paradise! I'd laugh everyday. Cats are such wonderful roommates. 💖
Thank you for supporting older cats. I really love puppies and kittens for about five minutes but they just grow and blossom as they get older. The dogs and cats I have owned have all been black - I too am saddened and confused by the reluctance to take animals on due to their age and color. Seems incredibly biased and ignorant with no logical context to me.
@antoinettenovella1630 I have a black cat too, and a black and white one, who can also be harder to rehome. I don't understand it, they're my favourites (I know I shouldn't have favourites 🤭)
@@Teresa-108 Thank you for sharing and for all the amazing work that you do. It is noticed and very much appreciated. You should not feel guilty for having favorites. Why do you think people are less likely to adopt black felines than those other color - is it for a multitude of reasons or just superstition? Or do you think the majority of people mask, even to themselves - why they are resistant/reluctant to adopt a black feline?
My little female kitty Mrs Pea just passed away last year at 20. I hated that we had to put her down, I prayed she’d go on her own but it wasn’t meant to be. All of her bloodwork tested as though she was a young girl but she developed arthritis very quickly everywhere. I treated her with everything and it all worked a bit then stopped. We went round and round with meds alternating treatments. Finally, one day she gave me this look and I knew. She was in a lot of pain and she was done. I had to listen even though it broke my heart.
You had to do that act of kindness every pet owner dreads..she lived a long life. Sounds to me you were an awesome owner who showed her so much ❤️ love. Bless you!🙏❤️
We adopted 2 elderly cats, 11 yr old Female + 9 yr old male - from NCAR that you visited not long ago! The female weighed a stone, the male 2 stone so cuddles were rather warm events! The male was as big as a dog. The female lived to almost 21 and the male to 22. She was black, he was black and white - like your cats! best pair of cats we ever were owned by!
I agree that 11 years old isn't elderly. I have an 11 year old cat who gets the "zoomies" every day. Those that don't know what I mean is that my cat runs full speed all over my apartment at least half an hour every day in the pure joy of running . Cats and dogs can get the "zoomies" and behave just like kittens and puppies.
❤❤I had 4 cats that all lived happily together. They lived until 17 18 19 and 21 years. I had them privately cremated and have them in their urns. They were my family for many years. The house is now empty❤
I have considered it but I am getting older (sigh) and have spinal issues that make me Unsure if I could give any pet the proper care they might need. Plus each passing pet put me in a state of sadness that I don't want to go through again. I forgot.. my Yorkie passed at 18 years also.
@@pattibooth5797 I understand as I have mobility issues myself. I have 9 cats, ages ranging from 19 to 4. What I have that really helps (my cats are indoor cats only) is the Litter Robot 3. Really takes the hard work out of keeping litter boxes clean and our cats love it and our other automatic litter box which is a PuraMax. They are expensive but they do save on litter long term as you don't waste clean litter. It is always heartbreaking when we lose one of our beloved fur family but as my adult son says "Look to the living". All except one of my cats are rescues so when I lose one I know I gave them the best life I could possibly give. My oldest cat lived to 23, second oldest 22 - we lost him 2 years ago. Our current oldest is 19 and we lost his brother to old age and illness last year. He too is going downhill, sleeping longer and longer but still enjoying his food, being petted and purring. Please reconsider. There are so many cats being overlooked in rescues and shelters that need someone like you to love and care for them. It is also a scientific fact that people with cats live longer because cats have a relaxing effect on us not to mention their purrs are healing.
The astonishing thing is how well blind pets can cope when they have a safe, loving home. ❤ Their sense of smell is so acute, and they quickly create a mental map of their space. Often, a sighted pet will spontaneously look out for them and become their guide. 🥰
I'm so glad you adopted the boys!! I have been blessed to have cats of all colors, fur patterns or solids. Each cat is an individual, just as we are, regardless of fur color! It's just fur, like we have different hair colors. None is better or worse than another . I've never understood why people want to attribute whole personality or other things based on fur colo!
We adopted the calico that can be seen in the background when the kittens are playing, along with her gorgeous black sister. They are ruling the house!
There's a special place in Heaven for people who rescue animals, especially ones like Johnny. I'd take him in a heartbeat but know I couldn't give him a better home than what he has now. Bless you all.
To those who are amazed at the colour problems, it's the same in the US. I was told somebody in the neighbourhood made the sign of the cross as they spotted my 10 yr old boy. He's black from nose to tail tip. He's also getting speckled as he gets old. The person with superstitions surprised me because I was under the impression that that kind of idiocy was gone. I guess I was naive. This place is wonderful! St. Francis watch over you all!
I don't believe people are superstitious about them. I think it's because they are very common and some people find them boring. Good thing there are others, like you and me, that find them elegant and stunning.
@@LadyIarConnacht The whole superstitions of black indeed is a problem. I see that a lot with religious people who don't know any better. My mother didn't want a black cat. She called them Evil and said in her country everyone knows not to get near them. There's my unlce and others who claim Black cats are scary for that reason. Just Black cats. So you shouldn't denounce someone of their own lived experienced. Both reasons can absolutely be true of why Blacks cats are not liked.
My elderly boy cat is all black with a little tux. He’s called Ichabod because he was rescued from the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery (the actual one where the legend was based). My friend was a docent there and she got him fostered in September because people do terrible things to black cats, especially near Halloween. I hadn’t really planned on it, but I ended up adopting him. Very glad I did. Not a sweeter cat in the world.
I was thinking how strange it is as well, and then I thought 'maybe it's because it's harder to see their distinct facial features' ? Otherwise I don't know, very strange. If I ever adopt a cat my cat will choose me. I will simply sit down on the shelter floor and let them come to me 🥰
I'm 70 + year old and have 3 cats that are only 9 years old and I really stress out wondering what is going to be come of them when I am gone, they are super attached to me and very spoiled, I don't have anyone to care for them. I found them in a shopping mall in a cart one cold night when they were tiny, was going to turn them over to Paws but didn't, may have been a mistake. But fell in love with them. 2 of them are white with a couple of black dots the other one black and white. The thought of them being stuck in small cages is terrifying. You have my up most respect for what you do.
You could find a new home for them in advance, so that once you are not able to care for them anymore, they already have a place to go to. You should then have them meet and socialize to the new family a couple times before they move so it's not as hard a transition! You could then still visit them as well. I hope this helps, this way it would be easier for all involved :))

I was surprised to hear Suzie from the cat rescue village say black cats and black and white cats are harder to be adopted. We rescued one of each and never hesitated at their glossy black fur and stunning green eyes. Our black and white girl had little white socks which look so cute. If you're thinking of adopting a cat please don't overlook the darker coloured ones!
My son brought a black kitten with a white love heart on his tummy, home. I had a black and white massive kitty for 18 years. I cannot understand why they aren't as popular.
@@indigocheetah4172It’s because in certain cultures black cats are seen as bad luck. I used to have a black cat & he was the sweetest kitty you could ever ask for. Adopt black cats if they’re right for you!
Even here in Ireland it's the same. The black cats is because of the superstition that black cats bring bad luck. This is a common superstition in all of Europe as well, unfortunately
I don't think it's because of superstition. People want to show their pets on instagram etc., and for amateurs it's harder to take good shots of black cats (or dogs). Black & white cats, on the other hand, are all too ordinary. The typical barn cat, not exotic enough to gain a lot of likes. It's not just sad. It's disgusting.
Thanks to all the volunteers at the cat retirement village for their dedication, love & caring for all of them. I am truly grateful. Blessings to you all. Thanks Dr. Scott
We rescued a five year old cat. Four years later when this absolutely PERFECT CAT got very sick with congestive heart failure, we had to be kind and put her down. That was a month ago and I still cry ugly tears because I miss her so much. Bless this place…
Animals can live with CHF. My 16 yr old Yorkie just passed. He lived with Congestive Heart Failure, with medication. My dog got diagnosed with it and lived a happy life for another 2 yrs!!! They take Lasix, just like people do. So, if ur dog or cat gets that diagnosis, know that u don't have to put them down right away. Try the medication 1st and c the difference it makes.
Lost my cat to heart problems, medicine can only do so much to prevent saddle thrombosis. I'm eternally grateful for the time I hade with him and that I never had to make call based on quality of life-because I would have held on way to long.
We took in a 15 year old 25 pound cat. He was the most amazing cat. Never met another like him. He stayed with us for 3 amazing months before going to the Rainbow 🌈 Bridge. I am so glad our family provided him a loving home for the end of his life. Rip Randolph
Wow, that’s amazing. Reading this made me tear up. Thank you for being vulnerable to knowing you may not have long with him but putting his need of having a home, first. I’m sure his last few months were wonderful with your family. ❤
Thank you for him. I rescued a bunny from the streets. It was winter. He stayed with us only six month because he was so ill. We tried everything to heal him but it was not meant to be. I miss him so much. He was so sweet.. Taking him in was one of the best decisions I ever made. His name was Kenny like actor Kenny Baker from Starwars
You guys ROCK! My wife and I live in a rural village in Nebraska, USA. There are no animal services in our county. So we have adopted 12 of the community cats that live inside our home. Additionally, we feed and take care of two separate colonies that live outside. So to see what you both have done for those elderly cats is inspirational. We wish you and ALL of your family and friends, nothing but the best.
I AM #CATMOMMA TO #THEFERAL15. THE MATRIARCH, #MOMMACAT WENT #OTRB 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈 OVER A WEEK AGO. I MISS HER SOOO MUCH. 😿😿😿😿😿 I ENJOYED WATCHING HER PLAY ON HER GOOD DAYS AS IF SHE WERE A KITTEN. 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING THERE.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗😻😻😻😻😻 #GODBLESSYOU 💜💜💜💜💜
This really touched my heart as well. I lost my precious 18 year old black girl last August to cancer. She would have been 19 in October. Though I wasn't sure I was completely ready, a month later I adopted two very bonded sisters that were a year and a half.
Being able to volunteer here at Shropshire Cat Rescue is such an honour 🥰 The cats are so loved by all of us and we're so grateful for your show to spread the importance of what we do here at SCR! So glad you had an amazing time meeting our residents 😻 xXx
That village is a gorgeous idea and design. I would volunteer in a heartbeat if I lived anywhere near it. Not sure how we could make one in Ontario, with the more extreme climate but I would love to see it done.
I have taken on two elderly cat that sat in a room for 14 months , no one wanted them , I just started to play with them while they were waiting , they were drulling, little pink toung sticking out and were so sweet . They are both on medication , my brand new house smells of pee , I smell of pee BUT these two guys are so loving , demanding and they have never left my side. My life will be so empty without these beautifull little cats. Thanks Dr Scott for looking after these beaufiful animals.
Get multiple cat litter boxes and since they are older check out lower litter boxes with one high side which makes it easy for them to get into and one high side so if they pee high it won’t spray outside the box. Rule of thumb is for every 2 cats they need 4 litter boxes. So if three cats they should have 6 boxes. Now that is a lot haha and most don’t have the space for that but if you have two cats and a big house since it’s new I would keep a littler box in any room they enter frequently. If they are peeing a lot make sure to rule out health issues too
First of all, as a long-time cat lover, thank you for welcoming two older cats into your home. I hope they have many happy and healthy years with you! I’m not sure why your house should smell of cat urine, though. Are they drinking enough water? If their urine is very strong, perhaps you could ask the vet for advice. If a cat doesn’t drink enough water, maybe a vet will suggest giving more wet food over dry (assuming they are on dry). My daughter and husband raised three newborn kittens well into adult-age and there was never any odor. Absolutely none. Cat litter brands these days make it so easy to keep a litter-box clean; unlike years ago. For two cats, if I were you, I would use two pans. Cats are naturally clean animals and if you scoop out the solids and clumps (of urine) several times throughout the day, there should be no odor at all. If a pan is not scooped out regularly, however, a cat might start relieving itself somewhere else in the home and then you have a major problem. I look at it this way … I wouldn’t want to use a dirty toilet and I don’t expect my fastidious cat to do likewise. I no longer have my much-loved cat but I checked his litter every morning, before lunchtime (around noon), later in the afternoon and finally, before I went to bed … a minimum of 4 times a day. I would keep the depth of the litter at about 10.16 cm (4 inches). Enjoy your two babies!
Oops! Had 2 Feral Brothers join Mr Uncle Hobbes (8yo) & elevator peeing began (that's when they start out w/bums low to litter & as they proceed to pee, they start raising their bums up & the pee sprays high outside the box) after I suddenly started working 12hr days vs 8 hrs. Had a 6mos handi-capped little Rosie-cat, tto, but she wasn't part of the pee-ing party. The boys started 'marking'➡ie they returned to pee where they previously pee'd...on wooden floors & up walls. We live in only 817 sq.feer condo➡very smelly & hard to keep up w/the cleaning UNTIL I read that COFFEE removes the cat-ammonia pee odor. I have both pine & oak wood floors, but I didn't care if the y got stained by the coffee (& they didn't once I got the hang of rinsing well)➡the trick is to let the coffee remove the particular cat-pee ingredient that causes that characteristic odor, such that the cats no longer detect it, b/c then they don't feel called-by-the-odor to go back & re-mark the area/adjacent areas again & again. I'd tried enzymes, vinegar, Ivory soap, milk etc ➡thing is, the cats can still smell thru those cleaners/fragrances. I also got 3 more litter boxes,w/unscented litter, & put them in semi-secluded places (so had total of 4) in separate rooms.I let the coffee sit for a bit on the floor areas, & even diluted it sometimes, & it worked to both remove the odors & helped stop the wee-ing outside the boxex. I washed fabrics in just the brewed coffee ➡& then washed w/detergent&cool water, which often removed the coffee color. VERY IMPORTANT THOUGH: COFFEE IS TOXIC FOR CATS, SO BE SURE TO RINSE AREAS WELL, & DON'T ALLOW CATS TO BE IN THE AREA WHEN YOU ARE DOING THE COFFEE CLEANING. I put the coffee in a spray bottle for the walls & wiped it down quickly to prevent staining. I put dry coffee grounds or fresh ground coffee on the sofa & put a very heavy/doubled, strongly secured cotton blanket on top of the grounds I'd put on the seat & back areas of loveseat where urine was...It took a few weeks, but the effort was well worth it...for them, & for me 🥳 I was sooooo relieved b/c I thought I was going to have to let the FeralBros go (find new homes for them ➡they were only 6mos old, I'd socialized them from 4 weeks old) & both Rosie & I would've been heart-broken. Whew! Hope this is helpful to you ❣
Oh my goodness, Johnny is such a little love. I'm obsessed with him! All of the residents look so contented and comfortable. It's lovely to see them receiving such good care.
I was called during dinner yrs ago!!! Out vet said.. john here, come right now & he hung up. I went, he handed my a briwn grocery bag making a feeble noise & 1 heavier. "Somebody dropped on door step, they are about 3/4 days old, that their stuff, see you. He knew I was a good animal parent. 1 was med long hair, 1 short hair, both battleship grey. Long hair, Fitz lived 16 yrs, Futz, short hair lived ...30 years... they had great lives.
Johnny is just the best 💙💙💙💙! What a wonderful retirement home ! The caretakers are amazing !!!! This was an awesome presentation!!!!!! Would love to see more !!
I was a hoarder I loved them all but I couldn't care for them because I wasn't well mentally thankfully cats protection league helped me in so many ways
It must have been hard to let others take over but it is obvious that you loved them as you let them go to a place that had the ability to take care of them. You must see this as a strength and not a loss! You are a truly loving person to care enough to let them live the best life they can!
I have a long haired black and white tuxedo cat that will turn 12 later this year. When I was living in Ft Worth, TX doing chemo for my second brain tumor I decided I needed a third cat. I looked at shelter website and planned on going to get a 4 year female calico cat. When I walked in though all the cats and kittens were sleeping, several in their litter boxes except for Gus. He was trying to climb his tiny little kitten self out of the cage meowing loudly the entire time. I thought to myself, he obviously wants to come home with me. He has been such a great cat and he’s so beautiful. I wish we had a place like this where I live now but I live in a tiny little town in west Texas. If we did, I would volunteer every single day. If I were to win the lotto I have always said I would build a cat sanctuary. When people call me a crazy cat lady I’m like, that’s not an insult. Right now it’s even true since Gus is the only cat I have:
I watched "Vet On The Hill" and I remember when Dr.Scott went back to Australia to help save koalas after the fires they are still recovering from years later. He even started the cutest campaign to raise funds, "Cookies For Koalas" and the cookies were absolutely ADORABLE looking!!🐨 I don't have cable anymore so l am a little behind, l didn't know he had four kids now, lol. And l only just discovered this channel today-- New Subscriber here!👍😃👏 This is the cutest little kitty sanctuary ever, so much love put into creating it for these beloved well cared for Cats. As they deserve! Thank❤You good kind people of Shropshire! Love & Respect from Ottawa from my rescued Dobby🐈⬛🐾 and me!🕊🤗♥️☘️🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
Our cat is now 20…she came to us from a feral litter. Walked into the garden and plopped next to me. She was maybe 7-8 weeks old. She’s a bit slower and a little stiff but otherwise continues to rule the house. To get rid of her because she’s old is beyond my understanding…I’d only rehome her if we were unable to care for her. . We only do so with our animals if they are suffering and can be helped. I love black and white cats…tuxedos are very interesting cats. When Sammy passes on I will look for a tuxedo to rescue. What an amazing place!
A BIIIIG Shout Out to ALL the other Cat Rescue Services, Centres and Carers who give their time, love and own resources to provide quality of life to our fellow inhabitants on this planet. ❤❤❤🎉
Running a retirement village for senior and special needs cats is my dream job. I myself took in a neglected long hair senior 5 years ago. She had a bad infection and ulcers in her mouth that prevented her from eating solid food. Underweight, covered in matts and entire chunks of fur missing. She had survived on the streets for roughly 6 years after her awful family decided they didn't want to deal with her anymore. The vet gave her a 50% chance, but she pulled through and after just a week of treatment she started bringing me mice regularly. She is at least 16 y/o now, still active and playful, healthy as can be, and will plop down on my lap or be my little spoon every day. Best cat anyone could ask for. ❤ Also have a 10 y/o one-eyed tuxedo boy I adopted from a shelter as a kitten. Neediest brat I ever knew.
Would be exceedingly wonderful to have veterinarians such as he in Cottonwood Arizona. However, I believe there are sanctuaries in the area. So, that is a tremendous gift to abandoned/abused animals of all sorts. Many THANKS to Rescue Vet and all the volunteers of this Sanctuary. God bless all these compassionate souls! 🙏💕🙏🙏
Oof, those 4-5 year-olds who were given up with health issues really got to me. I recently had to say my final farewells to my old cat Blitz. She was 14 at the time. She'd walked into my mum's pub 10 years before, emaciated and tiny with a badly healed, crippled leg. They thought she was a lost kitten, but a vet examination revealed that she was 4 years old and had an owner on record. That owner confessed they'd rehomed her a year ago due to an allergic newborn and when they looked into the people who allegedly agreed to take her in, they denied ever having had a cat. The scum had just abandoned her. My family were asked to help find her a good home. Thankfully, my other cat was willing to tolerate her, which is a big deal because my other cat HATES cats normally so obviously I adopted her. They became respectful room-mates and had no fights but were never friends. She was a runt, about 3/4ths of the size of a regular housecat. She loved to cuddle and be held. She had PTSD from what I assume was people who hit or kicked her and was too scared to jump due to the bad leg so needed little ramps to climb everywhere. Eventually, she went completely deaf, so I had to learn to deal with a deaf cat who was scared of certain movements. She was content being an indoors cat and even let me play with her sometimes so long as I was careful to avoid certain movements. Ofcourse, her rough life came with many chronic health issues, as well as a heart condition diagnosed when she was older that required daily medication. Eventually, those conditions worsened to a point of no return. I chose to let her go instead of extending her suffering by making her go through intensive procedures that had little chance of improving her quality of life. She passed away peacefully in my arms where she loved to snuggle most, at home, surrounded by the humans she adored and one reluctant grumpy cat roomie who mourned for her for months after. Sorry for the rant.
Prejudice knows no bounds. I love all cats and animals. What a wonderful place for older kitties. Thank you for caring about them. God bless you and yours. Stay safe.
I foster. Senior cats from the Humane Society. One I adopted, one passed away and one was made ready for his forever home. It is a blessing to have them, even for a short time.
I understand that it wasn't working out for Johnny to be among a group of cats, but have they tried putting one other cat at a time with him? Maybe he has a soulmate or bestie out there who would tolerate his issues quite well and they would have each other to socialize and hang out with! 😀❤
This made my heart SO happy! 💕 The Shrops Rescue place is like kitty heaven! It is super cute and the kitties are getting so much love & needed attention. I would volunteer there if I could. 😊
I have 6 cats. One is solid black(Spookie, born around Halloween). Lucky, my tuxedo was fou d in my church's parking lot during a hayride. He wouldn't get out from under the trailer's wheels. Everyone was saying, "Mrs. LuAnn, you have to take him home", so Mrs. LuAnn got an extra kitty. I have had him for 11 years. At the minute, he is sitting on the back of the couch hitting me because I am petting the dog.
I adopted a pair of 16 year old brothers and had them for 3 wonderful years. Lost them both to kidney disease. I’d do it again if only I could afford the vet bills. Senior cats are the best!
See if you can find an organization that does long-term foster placements. They provide vet care still so that the seniors can live in a home for their golden years; it also frees up shelter space so it’s a win-win for them to provide vet services and have you provide the love.
@@aidandevlon I was going to reply with the exact same comment. It's especially true for hospice cats (and dogs) who they just want to get out of the stress of most shelters. The shelter will continue to take care of the pets medical needs, if you foster.
I don't understand why people don't want black or black/white cats!!! I have two black and one black/white and I love them all to bits! This seems to be such a wonderful place, I had no idea such a place exists. Bless you all for looking after these beauties!
We rescued a Siamese with kittens and one of her kittens was black and white. We decided to keep her because we thought it might be hard to find her a home due to her "boring" coloring. She is not 100% Siamese but she sure acts like it. Incredibly smart and active. What a character.
Honestly, it's still all rooted in superstition about witchcraft and devil worship. So it's mostly the fault of the Church. It also has to do with medieval superstition that the colour black has to do with death. So that is a mostly Western thing and spread through Colonisation. After all, in China it means prosperity and good health, while in many parts of Africa it stands for masculinity, maturity, and age. In India, black is the colour that protects against evil, and in many parts of Eastern Asia it stands for experience (thus, the highest rank of belt is the black belt in martial arts). Heck, in Ancient Egypt, white meant death, while black was the colour of life and protection from evil! So it is all culture based and unfortunately, there are still highly uninformed people that thusly harm innocent animals :(
I agree, we had a tuxedo cat who used to play hide and seek with us. He had us wrapped around his paws. He was super gorgeous. When we get adopted again we will definitely look for a black or black and white cat.
Wow! It’s lovely to see all the works you do for our fury friends. I rescue my two orange, they was 4 weeks old, brothers, very sick. But I care of them , and they are my rescued too, now are 9 heatlthy years old.😻😻🙌👏🏻
What an amazing place this is. You can tell how much every cat is loved. If I were a senior cat I would love living in their retirement village. Thank you Dr. Scott. You are such a compassionate vet and I love watching you. Have a wonderful day.🙂❤️🐕🐈❤️
Yhea, I've just turned 69 yo & I'm wondering if I could move in/be their new roomate🙃❣I understand why that beautiful 8yo girlie didn't mind at all being mistaken as a geriatric person❤
We adopted two senior cats a few weeks ago. They were a bonded pair and we didn't want to separate them. They had been at the shelter for just over a year. They are settling in nicely and we are letting them set the pace. We are enjoying getting to know them and their individual personalities.
1:17 "To say that I love Rickets is an understatement." Ahh, yes, clippable statements that are totally different when taken out of context, and that I never thought I'd hear someone say.
How fantastic to have this retirement village for older cats and save them from euthanasia I saved a couple myself they were 11 years old one passed away and when she was 20 the other one was 14 he had cardiac arrest in February it broke my heart he looked exactly like the fluffy one Dr Scott was cuddling I would love to adopt that one but I'm all the way in Australia and I think the transport would be to stressful for an older cat you're doing amazing work saving the oldies thank you very much ❤😊
I think there is a person out there for Johnny. He's beautiful, affectionate, and just needs a very stable environment with a nice yard. Well, and he needs an understanding vet.
I agree. Possibly, also, if Johnny were joined later on by a kitten or young cat, and they were slowly introduced, he could find someone to snuggle with.
That retirement village is simply brilliant thinking! The sheds as little homes do not only provide the cats with homely surroundings, but it also gives them an ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ to experience, most importantly the cats are not forced to be in each other’s face if they don’t like each other, but can retreat to elsewhere in the village, what a wonderful idea! A big improvement upon caged settings in a lot of shelters. P.s. now i secretly want a retirement village in my backyard!
The world needs more people like you- nothing is free for pets or stray animals- If I could I do anything to help out. I’m in my late 80s - I love cats❤❤❤
This cat center is doing Gods Work. Thank you for giving to these sweet babies a second chance, the quality of life and the much needed love in their final days. I have had three Gingers give back all the love my family gave them in their last years. We gave them the best quality of life as versus quantity of life. I could never forget the unconditional love they gave, the first family cat taught me how to have unconditional love no matter what ny sibling and I put him through, had the patience of a saint and knew how much we loved him in our own weird way. I paid that forward with the second and the third, the third passing first and the second about 8 months after. The second came from an abusive home, rescued and was a few hours from euthanasia, adopted him and we just loved on him for 10 years, heaped it upon him as he healed from the trauma and ptsd that impacted the first two years of his life. He loved us back ten fold. The third was hard to not love, he was a dork in all sense of the word, never knew the meaning of the word quit and too cute to boot, ten sweet years with this quirky and adorable baby. I will continue on with my Tortie and Gray Tabby, give them lots if love, the best quality of life and see that love returned 100 fold.
Yes I have come from watching VOtH too . Nice to see two of his children .. Jackson and … I don’t know whether that’s Summer or Quinn … they were both lovely little blondes and now much older brunette ! And I didn’t recognize the dog in the yard .. I didn’t see Scully …
How awesome is that 😮 one of the best idea , i hope a lot more places like that , it is part of our humanity to respect and value the life of other creatures.❤
You're amazing Dr Scott, thank you for treating cats, and thanks to the volunteers and people running this retirement village making it possible for them to live their best life ever, I love cats❤😺, GOD bless you all🙏
My husband and I feed the feral kitties and provide shelter in our neighborhood. Luckily there is a local catch, fix and release org to help prevent overpopulation but let's the community help to manage care for the lil loves that need our attention. I'm so inspired by all of you.
Loving reading all the comments, and seeing the community we're building here! How utterly cute is this cat retirement village, I love how much each and every cat is loved and cared for here, no matter its needs. Keep the videos coming Dr Scott! Loving that you have moved from Bondi Vet to embark on your own journey and have your own channel now! 🎉
PS I love that you don't just focus on one type of pet, eg dogs only.
We are trying to read all your lovely comments but there are so many 😻😻😻
When l get to the UK l would love to help out in anyway l can if that will be okay with you
Thank you so much for caring! ❤❤❤

I wish i could have my own village here in America. 😢❤ i wish i could save all the kitties! I love that you were able to do this! ❤
You are so lucky to have such a wonderful cat❤❤
I bet he’s adorable. He deserves love as much as any other. Bless you for giving him a loving home and life 🩷
You just taught me something new. I never knew an animal can have Down Syndrome.
I have never heard of a cat with Down's Syndrome.
Pierwszy raz o tym słyszę i dzięki za edukację 😂
That’s such a lovely story, god bless you
They are living so long because you are taking fabulous care of them. Thank you for your "service" to the neighborhood kitties.
I take care of feral cats and they do not live that long typically.
2 to 3 years is an average life sometimes 4.
They're living longer because of the care that you're giving them and that your mother gave them obviously. They are probably not considered feral anymore and are probably just semi socialized outdoor cats.
But good human angels like you make the world a better place for these sweet cats
Thank you from all of us❤😊Many, like me, can't physically help because of illness and age. I decided to leave my house to the local no-k!ll cat shelter... it's the least I can do since cats were always the best part of my life 💫💞
(Edit to add: I forgot to mention, we had one kitty that lived to be 24 years old.

24 years old? Amazing!
@ellenmcintyre1247 Sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry for you loss. No cat is ever going to replace Gizmoe but I hope cats distribution system gives you a new friend soon
I totally get it
Hope you are well
❤ how is your cancer?
Gizmoe definitely tried to protect you the only way he could.
So strange that tuxedo kitties have a hard time being adopted. I've had them my whole life.
Amazing rescue.
Tuxedo best cat ever. Mine was like a human. She was the smartest cat ever.
I love my 15 month old tuxie he super playful and a bit naughty sometimes loves food he's very spoilt
I ran a large no kill shelter for years and all the cats I brought home were older and terminal but were still happy. They thrived in the home. ♥️
God bless them all. ❤

@antoinettenovella1630 Apparently it is partly superstition and also because they are less photogenic believe it or not!!
Sorry for your loss.
Lots of love and thanks to you, for being there for our feline friends, especially seniors!❤
Good on you for adopting two older cats. Sounds like they come with lots of love. 3 stones of it, wow! 😊
Really great idea!! Congrats!!
11-year-old cat is not an elderly cat my goodness who is labeling these cats as elderly
Elderly try 15 years old, not 11
I agree that 11 years old isn't elderly. I have an 11 year old cat who gets the "zoomies" every day. Those that don't know what I mean is that my cat runs full speed all over my apartment at least half an hour every day in the pure joy of running . Cats and dogs can get the "zoomies" and behave just like kittens and puppies.
Love this story. If I could, I would love to do this on a smaller level. Wonderful to see.
❤❤I had 4 cats that all lived happily together. They lived until 17 18 19 and 21 years. I had them privately cremated and have them in their urns. They were my family for many years. The house is now empty❤
This place is amazing Scott we need more!
Perhaps consider another rescue, maybe an older cat or two?
I have considered it but I am getting older (sigh) and have spinal issues that make me
Unsure if I could give any pet the proper care they might need. Plus each passing pet put me in a state of sadness that I don't want to go through again. I forgot.. my
Yorkie passed at 18 years also.
Nothing heals your heart like another heartbeat in the house
How can someone not want that blind cat ?He's brilliant. A great pet for a single person with no other pets yet ❤
The astonishing thing is how well blind pets can cope when they have a safe, loving home. ❤ Their sense of smell is so acute, and they quickly create a mental map of their space. Often, a sighted pet will spontaneously look out for them and become their guide. 🥰
Adopt a Senior!
my cat is 20 years old. She's blind and deaf. She's so sweet.
We now have 2 of the black kittens that were in the black box, Ronnie and Reggie, and they are absolutely thriving! Tearing the house apart 😂
Oh congratulation on your growing family! I hope that you receive all the love you deserve for providing a loving home for your furry children! 😻💖🐾
We adopted the calico that can be seen in the background when the kittens are playing, along with her gorgeous black sister. They are ruling the house!
Omg hahah how adorable. How are they doing
@@sillyhermyNothing wrong with black cats. They r clever very intelligent more than an coloured cat ...and they are not evil 👍🙏🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️❤️🐈
In the same boat without survivor life vests for my many cats. I'm 4 months shy of 77.
@@faith5563 its concerning, you can really fall in love with them
Thank you for taking care of these babies. You rescued them and I respect that very much.
You could find a new home for them in advance, so that once you are not able to care for them anymore, they already have a place to go to. You should then have them meet and socialize to the new family a couple times before they move so it's not as hard a transition! You could then still visit them as well. I hope this helps, this way it would be easier for all involved :))

A beautiful cat and kitty heaven!!! Your hearts must be busting with joy.🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
@patirvin-bz9pg it's sad isn't it that because of fur colour an animal may miss being adopted and end up on the euthanasia list. 😥
How can you pick a cat by color? The best cats choose you! 😊
Thanks to all the volunteers at the cat retirement village for their dedication, love & caring for all of them. I am truly grateful. Blessings to you all. Thanks Dr. Scott
I second this sentiment what a wonderful place and wonderful people
What a wonderful place!!! My congratulations to the people who created it and run it - you are amazing! ❤
We rescued a five year old cat. Four years later when this absolutely PERFECT CAT got very sick with congestive heart failure, we had to be kind and put her down. That was a month ago and I still cry ugly tears because I miss her so much. Bless this place…
Crying because you lost someone you loved can never be ugly
It's been 2 yrs for me and my heart STILL aches ❤
Animals can live with CHF. My 16 yr old Yorkie just passed. He lived with Congestive Heart Failure, with medication. My dog got diagnosed with it and lived a happy life for another 2 yrs!!! They take Lasix, just like people do. So, if ur dog or cat gets that diagnosis, know that u don't have to put them down right away. Try the medication 1st and c the difference it makes.
I just love black cats, theyre so beautiful. I can't believe that people r still superstitious about the color of their hair. It's so ridiculous.

What a wonderful place as an owner of an 18 year old black cat with feline dementia this touched my heart. ❤
This really touched my heart as well. I lost my precious 18 year old black girl last August to cancer. She would have been 19 in October. Though I wasn't sure I was completely ready, a month later I adopted two very bonded sisters that were a year and a half.

Nooooo, I have a wonderful black and white kitten and he’s stunningly beautiful!

It must have been hard to let others take over but it is obvious that you loved them as you let them go to a place that had the ability to take care of them. You must see this as a strength and not a loss! You are a truly loving person to care enough to let them live the best life they can!
Thank you for being selfless and letting them go to the best place possible. I had to rehome a cat and I still feel bad, but she traded up!

Good that you realised to not risk causing harm to your cats, it must have been very hard as it's a mental illness.
Thanks for giving the older cats a happy home to live out their senior years. May God bless you!
Right now it’s even true since Gus is the only cat I have:
older cats are the sweetest cats

Our cat is now 20…she came to us from a feral litter. Walked into the garden and plopped next to me. She was maybe 7-8 weeks old. She’s a bit slower and a little stiff but otherwise continues to rule the house. To get rid of her because she’s old is beyond my understanding…I’d only rehome her if we were unable to care for her. . We only do so with our animals if they are suffering and can be helped. I love black and white cats…tuxedos are very interesting cats. When Sammy passes on I will look for a tuxedo to rescue. What an amazing place!
A retirement home for senior cats is a brilliant and thoughtful idea. Wish there were more because many people only want to adopt younger cats.

Also have a 10 y/o one-eyed tuxedo boy I adopted from a shelter as a kitten. Neediest brat I ever knew.
Mine too! ❤
❤❤❤😘
KITTIES!! What an awesome group of kitties and humans 😊
Prejudice knows no bounds. I love all cats and animals. What a wonderful place for older kitties. Thank you for caring about them. God bless you and yours. Stay safe.
It’s more an old superstition about it being unlucky and them being associated with witches. It’s amazing how these things linger in people’s psyche.
Cat lovers are so tremendous! We love you all. You are so humane & kind. Bravo!
Elderly animals are the cutest in my opinion!
They are more calming and relaxed 😎
I foster. Senior cats from the Humane Society. One I adopted, one passed away and one was made ready for his forever home. It is a blessing to have them, even for a short time.
The stones made me cry. This was a wonderful watch, restores our faith in people when we see animals being treated with compassion and respect 😍👏

Thanks!

This is a super place for puss cats, I love them, we have a cat shelter near us and I make blankets for them. ❤ Xxx linda

I’m so proud to volunteer at such an amazing place - can’t keep away!
It's Awesome! ❤
@@elizzy8754 Yes, I think younger kittens would love Johnny. They are very pesky themselves and wouldn't mind him being "in their faces."
Cats are very deep loyal loving animals!
Nothing more charming that a man who loves animals❤
I want to adopt the elderliest of them all! I have adopted several seniors over the years they are great companions!
The world needs more people like you- nothing is free for pets or stray animals-
If I could I do anything to help out.
Beautiful place, wonderful video! It must have been difficult to leave without adopting one of those precious cats!
How wonderful. I've been following your Vet on the Hill episodes for years. Lovely to see you again.💞
I’ve been doing the same. I’m glad I found you here on your own channel. This is marvelous 😊
Yes I have come from watching VOtH too . Nice to see two of his children .. Jackson and … I don’t know whether that’s Summer or Quinn … they were both lovely little blondes and now much older brunette ! And I didn’t recognize the dog in the yard .. I didn’t see Scully …
God Bless You, Dr. Scott!!
Hi Dr. Scott. No matter what animals you treat, you treat them with such respect and love! I'm happy to have found you!
I love elderly cats, they may not run around anymore but they are very loyal & especially loving when they get older.
Thumbs Up for all of U.
How awesome is that 😮 one of the best idea , i hope a lot more places like that , it is part of our humanity to respect and value the life of other creatures.❤
Tuxedo's are the BEST! Clever and handsome. And I l love black cats. Very posh.
You're amazing Dr Scott, thank you for treating cats, and thanks to the volunteers and people running this retirement village making it possible for them to live their best life ever, I love cats❤😺, GOD bless you all🙏
Sunny, who I adopted when she was 13,has recently turned 22 and is still in charge...
My husband and I feed the feral kitties and provide shelter in our neighborhood. Luckily there is a local catch, fix and release org to help prevent overpopulation but let's the community help to manage care for the lil loves that need our attention. I'm so inspired by all of you.
