Your Brain vs Genius Brain - How Do They Compare

  • What makes a genius special? Is a brain of a genius different than yours or mine? What did Albert Einstein's brain look like?
Our brain is the command center for the nervous system. The part of body that ensures we are conscious and can experience life. It receives input from our five senses: seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling, and it sends output commands to the muscles. The human brain weighs about 3.3 lbs. (1.5 kilograms), contains roughly 86 billion nerve cells, and billions of nerve fibers. These neurons contain trillions of connections, or synapses. The brain is a complex living computer. But are all brains built the same? That’s what we’ll be looking at in this episode of the Infographics Show: How geniuses brains are different from our own.
Intelligence is one of the key measures for being a genius. So before we answer this question, let’s first look at what intelligence is and how it actually can be measured. The definition of intelligence itself is not an entirely firm definition. There are a number of ways of measuring it: academic intelligence, social intelligence, emotional intelligence or even, artistic intelligence to name just a few. And even when you look at something such as academic intelligence, it can be subdivided further into areas such as analytical skill, reading comprehension, and problem solving. So at first glance it’s not all that straight forward.
However, regardless of the lens through which you view intelligence, people across these various categories, who have a higher level of intelligence, tend to be able to navigate the challenges of life better than those individuals deemed to have a cognitive deficit. And this brings us to IQ. IQ stands for intelligence quotient, and it is a total score derived from several standardized tests designed to assess human intelligence. While an IQ test is not the perfect measure of a person’s intelligence, scientific studies that have looked at brain activity of people with high IQ scores can provide some useful insight into what makes intelligence.

To be honest, I think to be a "genius" you have to think a lot differently then most other people. Take Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and/or Steve Jobs as an example of this.
Steve Jobs was a generally cruel person to most people he knew, (including calling some higher-level employees of his A-holes at least twice), but he was awesome at marketing and creating ideas that public loved, (like the original Apple I-Pod - they didn't market-test it, but the American public loved it because of its design and features. The Zune was hated as an inferior product and a rip-off by Apple's competitors).
Bill Gates, we can argue has both a lot of marketing intelligence and social intelligence. Not only has he made Microsoft a great company, (in general), but also has created multiple foundations to help with a variety of issues that affect everyday people on a global level. Yet he chooses mainly stock options and "a dollar a year" paycheck from the company he runs - I get that he's rich already, but only stock options and a single dollar a year for running a multi-billion dollar business? That seems like not only being humble but that's also still strange to me to think of.
Elon Musk is a genius in designing new and unique items (like making the first hybirds and/or the starting SpaceX). Yet the guy also sleeps a lot less then the average person and overworks himself. He also messed up his company on the stock market with a joke by accident.

I think that it is critical to remember that genius doesn't just come down to math and science. There's genius of art, music, theater and literature. People like Beethoven, Vincent Van Gogh and Picasso might not have excelled in certain areas like math but that doesn't make their work any less genius. High IQ can often be specific to a certain subject and might be lower for other parts, it just comes down to what you specialize in. Einstein couldn't do a painting like Van Gogh and he couldn't write a play like Shakespeare but Van Gogh and Shakespeare couldn't do complex math equations like Einstein, yet they are still all brilliant.

I work at a Burger King currently, because i couldnt find a job that fits to my strengths. I am good in languages, and thats what i’ve studied but most companies either need experienced staff or don‘t need persons like me at all, because most people speak english and thereby comprehend each other anyway.

For this reason genius brains tend to specialize in a field that the brain wants more knowledge of. Genius people think differently. Genius people do not get treated with special care. There's no such thing as "emotional intelligence, social intelligence, or artistic intelligence" or the like. Those are just different personality traits. Such as extraversion, openness to experience (creativity), or agreeableness.
    They aren't "intelligences"

*Video Cliff Notes:* Einstein and Descartes had enlarged areas of the brain thought to be related to the fields in which they were considered "geniuses." That's literally the only brain related info in this entire 7 minute video. You're welcome.

  • @mildlyacidic
    @mildlyacidic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Intelligence only sets the limits of your potential. Many people who have grown up being told that they are intelligent are more likely to attribute their success to being smart rather than hard work. This tends to make them lazy or complacent. Those who are less intelligent are more likely to attribute their success to how hard they work. So despite being less intelligent, they are more able to reach the limits of their potential.
An analogy I thought of is that being intelligent is comparable to fuel efficiency on a car. Maybe smarter people have more fuel efficiency, but those who work harder develop much larger fuel storage tanks and thus get farther.

Not necessarily. Taking the iq test that includes mathematical reasoning and visual analysis would have acheived a near or perfect result. If it was extremely light to the point where it is nearly non existent. An average weight of a brain is 1.5 kilogram to which an average iq is 100, to my inference 0.3 of a kilo would have an iq of 300. If you say that I'm wrong then you could be wrong to because your referring that your brain is so light that your a genius.

Particularly, the kids whose IQ neared 180 (note: just some). One Termite killed himself at 18 for being rejected in love, while another one (who had extreme potential in a writing career) ended up as a landlady.

I don't think I would want a higher IQ to be honest. I am lucky that I don't have any negative social downsides, but I do find it hard to socialise and enjoy hanging out with most people.

Yeah but still you can never truly measure someone's intelligence. Because for example there are verbal reasoning IQ tests and these are incredibly unfair, especially to those who are illiterate and have a hard time with english or are autistic. Like they would have to be extremely autistic. And people like that tend to be extremely intelligent
